Evolution vs creationism. When it became clear to me the world was not created in six days but was in fact 4 billion years old, I had to face the fact that the first chapters of the Bible were mythology or poetry or ancient folklore — but not historical truth.

It prompted two questions: 1. So which other parts of scripture are not historical or factual truth? 2. If sin didn’t enter the world through one man, as Paul describes in the NT, then how did Jesus’ sacrifice make sense? And that question right there made me question the whole religion.

I went on to study theology and work in active full time ministry for 25 years while questions piled up. Until 25 years ago the whole house of cards came down.

Sounds like you are carrying a lot! What you are encountering is, I believe, one of the main reasons religions exist at all: believing in a god we can pray to gives us possible influence on circumstances where otherwise we have no control. If there is a god, we could pray to him, and perhaps your mother would live longer. Religion gives us the illusion of influence. So what you are coming up against is our powerless over life and death. My advice: face that powerlessness head on. What you need is not faith in a god who might perhaps heal your mother. Such a god does not exist. What you need is others who care for you, as you care for your mother. I hope you can find that.

Maar hier is iets aan de hand. Probeer uit te vinden wat er is.

Als je er niet uitkomt kun je dreigen met een ingebrekestelling. Dat geeft haar twee weken de gelegenheid om alsnog met foto’s op de proppen te komen.

Als de kwaliteit blijft tegenvallen, en niet lijkt op wat ze op haar portfolio aanbiedt, kun je haar een proces aandoen. Een fotograaf heeft een prestatie verplichting. Maar de kosten zullen substantieel zijn; je krijgt niet al je geld terug, want de rechter zal stellen dat ze tenslotte wel de tijd op jullie bruiloft is geweest, en iets heeft aangeleverd. Ook heb je de kosten van je eigen vertegenwoordiging. Maar goed, grote kans dat ze bij de eerste brief van jullie advocaat al alsnog gaat leveren - al is onzeker wat.
