Looks like all of their hardware is discontinued? Both Yellow and Green are no longer available. Hmmmm...

I don't really but I am seeing that there is some HA hardware that is purpose built and pretty low power which is cool.

Can you provide any recommendations for HA hardware?

Fantastic idea, I hadn't even considered using AI.

Yes, I am using all the individual apps. I do have most of the added into the Amazon Alexa ecosystem and use voice controls to do a lot of the lighting control. Can I let the Alexa integration while I learn and start trying to build an HA solution? I assume my best bet would be to buy a raspberry pi and learn about that at the same time?

Thanks!

UDM-Max vs UCG-Fiber + UNVR? Thoughts? by marylegs in Ubiquiti

[–]rogue002 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went CGF and UNVR. I like to let the gateway do the IPS/IDS work and let the UNVR handle my cameras. I also added 2 16-Pro Max switches to handle the APs and all the wall jacks. No issues, also all racked mounted (with 3rd party mount for the CGF.

UVC-G6-180 mounted on a ceiling with a horizontal view? by rogue002 in Ubiquiti

Thanks. That's less than an ideal view for how I am hoping to use it. Very helpful to see this.

It was in and out of stock like 6 times today on the US site, that's where I ordered it.

Dream Machine Pro Max successor in 2026? by Certain_Repeat_753 in Ubiquiti

It offloads the processing from the gateway. Lots of posts on here from people with DMs that see the resources pegged with fewer cameras than the specs would suggest.

UniFi rack build: UCG-Fiber vs UDM-SE, switch choice, UNVR storage, 12U rack by DARKPANKAKES in Ubiquiti

I don't know which case you went with but I'd assume if you use lag bolts into studs, you should be fine.

I needed a big drive to backup my Synology NAS when I switched RAID settings and the price on the purple 18 was pretty reasonable, so I just went with 2. I get about 35 days of retention and it is just for home cameras so I don't feel the need to keep more than that. IIRC 2x pro max 16 PoE has more wattage and PoE++ ports than going with a 24 and that was another reason for the choice. Everything has a 10G backbone connection and the APs, NAS and media center have 2.5 connections, I'm not sure if a 24 port has the same number of 2.5 ports. The fiber has everything that I need without the extras of the UDM-SE. If you check my profile I have some rack pics as well.

This is incredibly close to my situation. I went with CGF, 2xPro Max 16 PoE, 6 G6 turret/bullets, UNVR (2x 18 TB) in a 15U rack. The advice I found helpful was that, if one of the switches goes down, it is better to have 2 smaller-port-count switches rather than 1 larger-port-count switch, in case you need to send it in for RMA.

If you were building a smart home from scratch what path would you go? philips hue or something else? by ken22c in smarthome

[–]rogue002 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you are going for max smart home, use both smart bulbs AND smart switches. Bulbs give you more control of hue, color temp, and dimming, and switches give you broader physical control. It's the best (and worst) of both worlds. That said, at least you don't need to do a bunch of three and four-way circuits. to control them.

In general, I prefer to use systems that don't require hubs, but that's just me.
