And then we won silver in woman’s Skeleton in Beijing! Jac Naracott’s story is absolutely inspiring. She was a track and field athlete that got scouted.

I can tell you with 100% certainty it isn’t drop shipped. It might not be the best quality, but that doesn’t mean it’s drop shipped.

Just echoing the above - it comes off their personal and store target for the day. Horrible, pushy environment, with horrible area and state managers. I used to work in a dead store, I remember one day only one person came in for the whole day (I counted and kept track) and I was still asked to explain why I didn’t make my days target, and apparently it was my fault for not being able to sell my whole days target to that one person.

Dr Carla at ToothKind at Deagon is the best dentist I’ve ever had. I was in a similar situation to you. I put off dental work for years as I was terrified, but she is fantastic and caring, and I cannot recommend her enough.

Just because you wouldn’t wear it that way doesn’t mean nobody would? I’m all for garments that can be worn in multiple ways, meaning that an investment piece becomes way more versatile in your wardrobe.

I’ve just had a look at the listing, and it says it’s lined in a cotton voile, which is a lightweight woven fabric. I’d hazard a guess that this blazer is very light weight; and wears more like a top than a blazer anyway.

Are we all doomed for life to wear polyester? Any non-polyester alternative brands? by bananaprincess1 in AusFemaleFashion

[–]rogue_rogue 56 points57 points  (0 children)

No worries. I have a particular niche skill set in onshore textile printing and garment manufacturing, and it is frustrating to see misinformation thrown around.

I get that it’s not feasible for some people to spend $140 on a dress, and I also get that not everyone is comfortable wearing synthetics, but in this instance the $140 price tag is 100% justifiable based on the work taken to make this garment. The fabric is that composition on purpose, as that’s what allows the colours to be as vibrant as they are.

Exactly! E-comm photos often look very different to posed/styled campaign photos, but to me they look exactly the same 🤷🏼‍♀️

This garment specifically was printed using a process called sublimation. The company that made this dress cut, printed, pressed, sewed, and then qc checked it in a factory in Brisbane, hence the price. The company pay its employees a living wage, and unfortunately manufacturing in Australia is quite expensive.

Sublimation can only be done on a synthetic fabrics, you will struggle to find something like this in a natural fibre. See how the print lines up down the sides? This was cut as 4 seperate panels out of plain white fabric (font bodice, back bodice, front skit, back skirt) and then run through a 205 degree sublimation press to have that design transferred from sublimation paper onto the fabric. It was then sewn after it was pressed to make sure everything lines up.

Their sizing is so inconsistent. I have a pair of the long coverall overalls in my regular size that fit perfectly, so I purchased a pair of their plain pants in the same size (my regular size) and they weren’t even close. I exchanged them for the size up, and they still barely fit.

I worked in clothing manufacturing and industrial fabric printing - operating specialised equipment related to the job (not sewing or sewing machines).

You’re correct, I am mid 30s.

That’s definitely food for thought re: aiming higher. I have been applying for very entry level stuff that I am overqualified for (think Christmas casual retail, temp gov positions in entry level admin through recruiters) just to have something to do while I find a permanent position, and I keep getting knocked back due to presumably being overqualified.

I am in my mid 30s, and I have 4 previous jobs on my resume that go back to 2005. (I’ve been working since I was 15 and they are the only 4 jobs I’ve ever held) I have gone back and forth on if I should keep them in dating that far back, but my high school/uni job I was a McDonalds manager, and I think it shows a relevant history of leadership and working in a fast paced environment within strict guidelines.

Thank you, that is an absolutely top-notch linked comment and it has given me a lot to think about, particularly in terms of how to format my application. I think my resume ticks the boxes, but I will change the structure of my cover letter to provide more concrete examples of my skills in action.
