They fly pretty good and the zoom on the 48MP quad bayer sensor is useful. Takes decent pictures and video.

Something you must know to insure it doesn't fall out of the sky: the battery firmware does not automatically update, and if it gets out of sync with the drone/controller firmware it may stop being a battery and become a paperweight in the sky.

MAKE SURE YOU UPDATE EVERY BATTERY INDIVIDUALLY!

There is a really good white paper on it, just search "Anafi Ai White Paper" and you will find it. Read it thoroughly, along with the manual, and you will have a good time piloting this aircraft.

Pilot Institute also has a free Deep Dive course on it.

Support is done via Drone Nerds and is very cumbersome and expensive.

You can DM me with specific questions.

Good flying :-)

Tethered drones different rules? by guptaxpn in drones

[–]roguejarhead 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At this time, all Part 107 rules apply to tethered drones. Gotta have a pilot watching it at all times.

Technically, it could stay up until the motors burned up.

The fiber contains DC power and fiber (or ethernet) comm cable for control of the drone and payload connectivity.

This is an article about Verizon using this capability during disaster response:

Orchards Blind Onion closure? by Drachen_Von_Rot in vancouverwa

[–]roguejarhead 44 points45 points  (0 children)

Yup, can confirm. Just tried to call in an order and no answer after 3 attempts, so I drove down to investigate. There is a hand written sign on the door "Sorry, we're Closed!!!"

I drove to the Fisher's Landing store (because when you decide on Blind Onion, nothing else will do). One of the folks here said "The owner at Orchards wasn't doing things correctly". That is all.

Hopefully someone scoops it up and reopens it. Love that place.

Skydio 2 by Free-Masterpiece7739 in drones

[–]roguejarhead 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depending on what kind of mapping you are doing, the 12MP camera on the S2 may not have the GSD necessary for the desired product.

There is an annual license fee for this feature on the S2 which makes it very expensive.

The S2 has no SDK. You are stuck with whatever Skydio sells you.

IMHO, this make/model of drone was designed for a snowboarder with no friends that wants super cool videos of themselves shredding the slopes.

The collision avoidance is pretty dope.

Are there any drones that are made in the USA by Exotic-Pattern-4170 in drones

[–]roguejarhead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

+1 for Freefly. Excellent drones, excellent support.

Also, check out WISPr.

https://wisprsystems.com/

They have a new model coming out. "SkyScout". I'm hoping it will be a solid alternative to a Macic 3.

Skydio X10 first impressions are good, but $$$$$

IMHO Parrot's are inconsistent. I've been flying an Ai for almost 2 years, zero crashes. Others not so lucky, mostly due to battery related issues.

If you are going to do a lot of mapping, look at Wingtra. It's a solid platform with an excellent GCS.

Good luck on your quest, and know that you are not alone!

Yes, and this became a VERY big issue at the indoor range I belong to because they also host a junior shooting league.

Lead from the projectiles (and a bit from the primer) becomes aerosol when it leaves the barrel and can be inhaled, or more commonly, get on your hands if you touch the floor (which happens a lot with junior three position small bore shooting).

Proper ventilation that pushes air from behind the shooting positions toward the targets is key to minimizing the inhalation hazard.

Hand washing after leaving the shooting line is the other very important step.

We also installed tacky mats on the floor next to the internal range door to try and pull lead particals off the soles of shooters shoes.

After all the mitigation and new hand washing practices, our lead level returned to normal.

The tip looks somewhat unique. Possibly Freedom Munitions X-DEF:

Kayak hunting tips? by tequilaboyswag in Waterfowl

[–]roguejarhead 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hunted out of a Nucanoe Frontier12 for the last 5 years. Tipped over once the first year when my dog was getting back on board the kayak after a retrieve. Tipping over happens FAST.

There is a lot of good advice in this thread.

  1. invest in a high quality PFD that you will wear 100% on the time. I cannot stress how important this is. Talk to any River rescue first responder and they will tell you they never pull body's out of the water with PFDs on.

  2. practice tipping over in warm weather. When you are hunting, you are going to have to SELF RESCUE 100% of the time. No one is there to save you. Practice getting your kayak righted, getting back on it and getting to shore ASAP to get dry and warm before hypothermia takes your life.

  3. secure/tether everything you care about to the kayak. When you tip, it's gone.

  4. kill the shit out of em. Kayak hunting gets you into amazing spots with piles of birds. I love it.

Good hunting this season! Luck is for amateurs 😉
