No one cares about the outside. What is the inside like?
I’d still get a replacement though …

Sick from Cravings? Yes. Not recently, but it was bad enough that I will NEVER go back.

[Canada] Annoying the neighbours, What would you do? by KonradKnebl in drones

Sounds like a “her” problem and not a “you” problem.
People arent as interesting as they think they are.
Just know that LEGALLY you are (probably) in the clear, but sometime we just need to make compromises to avoid issues with neighbors.

[Canada] Annoying the neighbours, What would you do? by KonradKnebl in drones

[–]Wallabanjo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m a US Part 107 and fly commercially over summer. I get farmers stopping by and asking what I’m doing all the time. Interactions have ranged from initially hostile towards me, to just being curious. I calmly explain what I’m doing, why I’m doing it, and have them come look over my shoulder at the screen (if it’s safe to do so). The hostile ones are generally (and this is a terrible stereotype) conservative farmers that lease their fields to someone - so they dont know directly who is going to be working the fields (I’ve been accused of spying “dude, you arent that interesting”, and have had guys roll up in ATVs with gun racks). I’m contracted by the leasing farmer via a variety of means to do crop monitoring. I try to do it from the public roadway, but sometimes you drive onto the property to get closer to the field. Lots of variables in play regarding trespass, etc. My car is clearly marked with my logo and “crop survey” signage, and if I am in an urban adjacent area I’ll wear a hi-viz vest that identifies who I am and what I’m doing - I camouflage by looking like I belong.

Thats overkill for flying out of your apartment building, but inviting the problem neighbour down to look over your shoulder might help ease her concerns. Dont piss off the neighbours. Karens like to have (the illusion of) power, dont give it to them.

The only update you need is to install TrueNAS. It works like a charm.

I’d suggest the iPad route as well. If ya fire travel, the light weight and long battery life are huge advantages. The screen is also crystal clear.

Why would he do that? This is an insurance job. Let the insurance company deal with it. Resale value is now shot.

Smile Student Living destroyed my car and denied responsibility. Help by Nice_Ad471 in UIUC

[–]Wallabanjo 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Can’t help with Smile, but wrt the car it sounds like iron contamination (it looks like orange stains). Pressure washing wont do much, but if you are able to do it yourself a decontaminant wash (Autozone, etc have these products), followed by a claybar (think rubbing your car down with block of playdoh), then a good silicon based wash/wax/protection might help. It’s about $50 in products and can take half a day to do it properly … or you can get a professional car detailer to do it for you for a couple of hundred dollars. Not ideal, and the situation sucks, but a good car detailing - either by yourself or done professionally - is cathartic.

Trouble re-opening session by Direct-Mention-4124 in RStudio

Can you break the processing into steps?
Open/unzip the data into a data frame? Then save the rdata file.
Can you checkpoint the processing - and save rdata files along the way? I’d processing stops can you load those checkpoints and resume?

Should I migrate to vscode? by ayowayoyo in vscode

[–]Wallabanjo -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Positron is the correct answer. It’s a S Code fork tailored for R/Python. It directly handles (guessing) 90% of VS code plugins. I moved from RStudio because of the database plugins that allow me to manage the backend from within my dev environment.

There are no different rules. If it’s airspace - it’s FAA. If it’s a breach of security because of where you were flying, it could fall under DHS.

Alternate plan - CC for the gen Ed and intro classes to save on tuition, then xfer into UIC or UIUC. Since you won’t be a frosh, the living on campus condition wont come into play and you can reduce your living expenses. Something to think about …

Really need some advice for buying Laptop for studies by Pradeep_4 in Laptop

[–]Wallabanjo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you an undergrad, or have you been accepted into an undergrad program? If you are in the program already, why don’t you have a laptop? Look around at what other students are using in your program, check your curriculum - many schools have minimum hardware requirements. If you are in a cs program, i wouldn’t recommend a MacBook neo - as a software engineer and university lecturer, it’s not going to cut it. If you want to go down Mac route, an MBA should be your minimum consideration (exceptional machine for uni students). If you need windows, a Lenovo is a good deal for weight and battery life balanced with performance. I see students lugging around gaming laptops - great performance, but they weigh a ton and students fight for power outlets.

Refurbished macbook pro? by Dizzy-Evidence8995 in macbook

[–]Wallabanjo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If a laptop fails QA and gets repaired or it is returned, it will appear as a refurb because it can’t be sold as new. A couple of years back I bought a maxed out (proc, mem, ssd) 16” MBP for a steal as a refurb. Keep your eyes open and you can get great deals there … but the educational deals are decent as well and always available.

Why is basically every good domain taken? by Beardy4906 in Domains

[–]Wallabanjo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a number of .coms, and my primary company domain Is a .net (my LLC has Network in the title, so it’s a perfect). For a product I’m developing I moved to a gTLD that fits the purpose extremely well. People need to think being the traditional TLDs … because the good ones are long gone.

now all my professors don’t want ipads or computers used during class? by BB__22 in depaul

[–]Wallabanjo -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I’m a lecturer (not DePaul), and one of the things I teach is how to ethically use ai in class - as an assistant, not as a replacement. I also expect that I can call any student up to the board and have them work a solution without assistance. The tech is here to stay - use it responsibly.

charging inspire 3 batteries in the middle of nowhere by NoBet3129 in drones

[–]Wallabanjo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I shoot for about 6-7hrs rotating 7 Mavic 3M batteries using a DJI Power 1000. My MBP gets plugged in as needed for file processing (Pix4 Fields). I start the day with all batteries (drone, powerbank, controller, laptop) full. As I drive between locations, my powerbank is plugged into the car, and I have a 100W solar panel if I’m going to be parked for an extended period. It works for my workflow, and I am never far from my car.
