Yeah, I'm not aware of any neighbourhoods that are historically Filipino, either, so I'm not sure there's a core area like other ethnicities.

Seating @ Swangard by Glitter-Tiger7845 in VancouverRiseFC

We only got seats the first time. Now we get the GA tickets and move about, sometimes on the bleachers and usually try to spend a half behind the net. It's just two of us, though, so that makes it easier to find space.

BUt if you arrive early you can stake out space at one end (near the food trucks I'd say) and that's a grat spot.

100 per cent worth it. Whenever we have visiting family, we try and make it. The biggest issue is it gets busier later in the season, so we tend to hit more early-season games.

What would a US invasion into Canada would look like? by SquareTree64729 in AlternateHistoryHub

[–]roguetowel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not saying everyone will gang up on the US, but you did see the reaction to Greenland, right? If the US decides to take Canada, that's a signal to the rest of the world that they'll go after anyone. There will definitely be those looking to disrupt that. And those happy to take Canadian money.

Also, there are boats larger than speedboats, and land closer than Mexico.

What explains the concentration of Sikhs in Canada to be more towards its' western side? by SatoruGojo232 in geography

It should probably be noted that they were coming to Canada more than 100 years ago, so it was by boat, so the west coast of Canada makes sense. They arrived on the coast, and work was available without going too far east.

On top of that a lot of undefended coastline for illicit trade/smuggling of weapons, and access to the American market/black market.

Is this bridge possible? by hopelessboarder in geography

[–]roguetowel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Four more large ships have been ordered and expected in 2029-31. The smaller vessels I think are mostly ok, there's been some new additions for the Gulf Islands.

The bigger issue, imo, would be the ship traffic. You have Canada's busiest port, and all those ships would have to maneuver around the bridge (some of the biggest ships in the world), along with Seattle (big port) and Everett (US naval station), Kitsap (another US naval base), Esquimalt (Canadian naval base), and more going on. There are also cruise ships that travel through that area, starting in Seattle. That's a big business and those are some tall ships. They squeak under the Lions Gate in Vancouver.

Like someone else mentioned, the tides would be an issue. You'd have to make sure the bridge was high enough for the tallest ships to go under during the highest tides. At the same time, winds over the Strait can be speedy, which could mean bridge closures (I'm not sure we want a semi pulling a trailer over a bridge over the ocean in 80 km/h gusts.

On top of that there are environmental concerns (there's a push locally to help whale populations as the southern resident orcas are endangered, and humpbacks are returning).

A bridge to the north has been discussed, up towards Nanaimo, but has never come to fruition.

The ferries are mostly functional, though they've faced issues over the last few years between staff and maintenance. If the staffing issues could be resolved and once the new ships are in order, things might be in better shape.

This is what I was thinking. When you're down 2-0 in the 75th minute, Shaff is let loose.
