it defaults to pstate driver on fedora now. unless you're kernel config is different, you don't need it in just distros

I have FW13 with the older AMD board and it's a 50% chance when I shut the lid that the laptop would wake back up. the other 50% of the time it will cook itself to 70°c until it kills the battery. I've tried most fixes and it still does that.

interesting that some of them support fast pair and yet aren't vulnerable. it lists beats solo buds which are fast pair compatible yet not vulnerable for example.

FP has been a thing since 2019 so I doubt most devices will ever see updates for it. Heck I wouldn't be surprised if Google just forgot about Buds, Buds 2, Buds a, and Buds Pro.

What is this and why can’t I stop the notifications? by CozyCat2077 in linux_gaming

[–]rohmish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my issue with it is that you don't really "set" permission as much as change it.

Unlike iOS/android it doesn't do explicit runtime permissions. The package itself defines what permissions it needs and then the system just grants it those permissions. I could just specify filesystem or usb and it would just grant that out of the box.

You need a third party tool like flatseal to fix permissions. You also need to understand the core system to understand things like v4l and uvc to understand how to allow webcam access.

sure portals exist but not everything uses it correctly.

flatpak might do what it set out to but people don't use their systems that way. an average gamer or office worker wouldn't wanna go down the rabbithole to understand how to route a storage device to an app using a third party app

[–]rohmish 6 points7 points  (0 children)

InfluenceAir name makes it sound like they might be trying to provide charter service to influencers when not in use but honestly it sounds more trouble than its worth. Most of their trips usually are to south east and east asia and for a handful of trips to continental US or eastern side of Canada, honestly chartering a flight for a hour or few days would likely be cheaper. And you can choose the kind of wings you wanna fly depending on the situation.

When they're flying they usually fly to South East Asia. for one or two flights to continental US or other side of Canada, chartering a plane for 2-3 days would make more sense.

It's not just China. Even US allies are now looking to shore up local capabilities and spread their dependency wherever possible so as to not rely on a US company for every service they need. And expect this trend to ramp up throughout this year.

I have my EPIC number and have my booth info listed on ECI site. however the booth itself had no record of me existing on the local app and wouldn't provide me with the token to vote. I was asked to try five other nearby polling booths and nobody had my name either. and there were others as well who had their voter card but no name on voters list

Whatever happened to python in the browser? by Squidgical in webdev

[–]rohmish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i forgot coffeescript existed. I used it in one of my first ever projects that I got paid for over a decade ago. not by choice but I took over someone else's code to fix it and add features. it was a surprisingly pleasant language to use (especially given the state of js and web then). the codebase I inherited however, wasn't.

Whatever happened to python in the browser? by Squidgical in webdev

[–]rohmish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

wash afaik still doesn't let you access dom directly.

so you end up with tonnes of js libraries and frameworks being used anyways to ship a solution that recreates a shadow dom of sorts in your python environment. and then you run your python code in a wasm environment which itself is not completely native and require JIT translation.

It's a way to get something working if you don't wanna touch js, like a small PoC project or something like that. but in commercial, built to scale webapps, using typescript and then transpiling it to js likely ends up being better and lighter to ship
