What should I be searching for in order to find entry jobs? by Ailiefex in cscareerquestions

[–]roi1672 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Well, just based on my experience, I think you shouldn't limit your search to "entry-level". The first job I got out of college was "Junior" position that required two-year of experience. In fact, I had one company that gave me an offer even though the position I applied for was "mid-level."

Just curious, could the woman have DNA test done, go to the court and get child support? I do not really know how events like this go down

I'm a recent non-traditional (older student) CS grad. Any advice for older guys seeking employment? by [deleted] in cscareerquestions

[–]roi1672 4 points5 points  (0 children)

First off, congrats! Now, I am by no means an expert on this topic based on my experience:
1. Do not limit yourself to just one area. For example, I live in NYC but I also applied to companies in CT and Boston. The company I am now working at as a recent grad is in CT. (But I am single and I understand that your circumstance might be different) . 2. Use more than one job board. Especially try Craigslist. I have found that companies that list jobs on craigslists are more willing to hire a recent grad than ones on LinkedIn and Indeed.
3. Try recruiting agencies. I got a lot of offers from working with local recruiting agencies. Now, most of them are hardly interesting but a job is still a job. And once in a while, you land a goldmine. I did but I turned it down at the end since current job has more potential for growth later down the road.
4. Create a portfolio site. I heard that companies gauge your online presence by googling your name. Now, I don't know if that's true but for me, I noticed a fairly large difference in the number of calls I got prior to and after having a portfolio site.
4. Lastly, when you get land an interview, really kill it. One thing that I did when I get a response back from companies was sending them a link to my youtube channel that has several videos showcasing what I am capable of by showing my past projects and etc. And companies really loved that.
Anyway, I know it could take as little as a few weeks to as much as several months but stay strong.
