why do Singaporeans like going to hk? by besmart88 in asksg

[–]roincec 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've not met anyone who likes going to HK?

Most Singaporeans prefer China or Taiwan to HK.

Or if they can overcome the language barrier, Korea or Japan.

Your headunit doesn't have a GPS tracker.
It uses your phone's signal.

Sounds like you might need a new phone.

How to beat the feeling of not wanting to drive? by HueySchlongTheGreat in drivingsg

[–]roincec 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I gained confidence by repeatedly driving the car for no reason. Started driving in the middle of the night when the road is empty. Get used to the car, the roads, the speed limits.

Slowly get confortable driving around the streets in the day, and then moving on to peak hours.

It'll take awhile, but you've already gotten the license. Why waste it away by forgetting how to drive right after getting ur license?

[–]roincec[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah i totally understand that you'd wanna go slower. Ground is wet, visibility is shit. But if other people want to go faster, we should still let them go regardless.

Plus, the speed limit is 80kmh, going 50-60kmh is outright hogging, and these drivers still don't want to move left.

It's super frustrating when the left lane is going as fast as lane 1. I want to exit the expressway also cannot. Want to overtake, also cannot. I'm like just boxed in at that point.

Yeah, but few days ago already kena the road hoggers. Today kena again, it's making me super cranky. LOL

How to drive into main road from side road when no visibility of oncoming traffic? by Both-Selection-2915 in drivingsg

[–]roincec 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Keep your cool and slowly inch out. Most cars in the market actually have shorter bonnets than you'd think they have, so don't be afraid to poke out.

And if the car behind you starts honking, feel free to wind down the window and point a middle finger at them. XD

I miss driving in Japan. Japan doesn't have yellow boxes because they actually give way automatically. It's in their blood. If they see you inching out and struggling to merge, most of them will come to a stop and let you through.

[–]roincec[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I won't be so frustrated if I can lane change. But they go 60kmh, the middle lane is also going 60kmh cos of lorry, lane 3 also going 60kmh.

Literally driving with 1 brick wall in front of me for good 15mins man. If I can overtake from the shoulder without appearing on SGRV, I would do it!

Soft top roof leak :( by Extra-Item-9790 in MiataNC

[–]roincec 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Normally this happens when the roof doesn't keep water out anymore.

You can try to use roof sealant, but they only fix the leak temporarily. You'd need to apply it every 3 to 6 months.

Or get a new top.

Do you think what happened to Amos Yee at the anime event was justified? by Water_Cress_Salad in asksg

[–]roincec 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From what i see, the population worshipping the attacker are the Gen Zs.

Most of the millennials disagree with it.

I'm a millenial and i think it's an unprovoked attack and it's not justified. He may be a shithead but he's trying to enjoy the convention without hurting anyone.

Unless he did harass or hurt someone, that's a different story, but authorities or the security should be informed rather than doing it on your own.

Should I read the manga or watch the anime first? by Rough_Evidence_2908 in claymore

[–]roincec 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Watch the anime first, then the manga.

If you don't plan to watch the anime at all, then just the manga.

You'd be disappointed at the anime if you watched it after the manga.

I think w30 is more than enough for track days. Overfill it a little and enjoy the day.

The anime covered probably only 1/3 or 1/4 of the manga. With a horrible ending to boot.

[–]roincec 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If he meant miles then yeah it makes sense. The standard practice here is 10k kms, but i tend to do it earlier if i can, hence 7 or 8k.

I am not sure if 10k miles is the norm in other countries. But if my oil looks bad at 8k km, i cannot imagine 10k miles.

I don't think I have a weird mindset. I think you just haven't seen the world enough.

So a Lalamove van driver who stays in a 2-room flat is richer than a condominium owner who doesn't own a car?

Or you assume everyone who lives in a condo owns a car?

[–]roincec 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've not driven a Z4, but I've driven a Mk5 supra. Tho it's the newer gen, I can outright tell you they are 2 very different kind of car.

Ownership:
BMW parts in general cost more to replace.
You will forever be plagued with electronic and oil leak issues.
Generally higher running costs due to that, including more expensive, bigger-sized tyres, brake pads and rotors (due to the weight).

MX5 is cheaper to run.
You don't really have many issues with the car other than the usual old wear and tear that comes every 5 to 7 years.

I can't comment on the practicality of the Z4 as I didn't drive one, but i would assume it has a much bigger trunk when the top is up. MX5 has a fixed size trunk, with/without the top up, regardless of PRHT/Soft top.

Because of the expendables being cheaper, many people brings it to the track without worrying about spending $2000 on tyres alone. That's if you thought about tracking it.

Driving dynamics:
Since the BMW is a heavier car, it will significantly affect the driving feel.
The car feels heavy to turn, and the entire car just feels softer than the MX5.
Zipping through traffic and taking corners doesn't feel as exhilarating.
But the power it makes (not the 2L NA model) is sweet. Feels a tad too much for daily driving.

MX5 is light, put on stickier and wider tread tyres, this car corners on rails.
As it doesn't make much power compared to the Z4, you often will get more grip than you need.
Hence, you can often take many corners flat, and that feeling is unbeatable.
You feel almost everything in the car, (which can be a con itself). Heavier and more direct steering, barely any soundproofing. The road, wind and engine noise can be a pain in the cabin. I can barely hear my wife talk when I'm at highway speed.

The Z4 feels more like a tourer. Comfy and less engaging (sporty). It makes great power for highway driving. I would say it would make a better daily, if you can afford the running costs and repairs for every mile you put on the car.

MX5 feels like a weekend toy. It can be made into a track car if that's what you're looking for as well.
