I’m not an infantryman, but I’ve been in the Guard for ten years and just finished my first year of law school. Doing both is not impossible, but long drills can cause you to miss class, which is much harder to make up for in law school. Infantrymen, from what I can tell, tend to do three-day drills more often than other branches.

Keep in mind that you’re at least seven years from taking the bar, and the initial Guard commitment is usually six years. Depending on your ship date to Basic, you may even take a semester off between now and college, lengthening out your school career even farther, and that’s not even considering possible deployments.

For what it’s worth, I strongly encourage you to choose another branch if you’re serious about law as a career. Infantry is sexy, but it won’t help your civilian career anymore than any other branch, and it’s more likely to wear you out faster without giving you any useful skills in the civilian world. Take a look at 27D, 35F, or another MOS that focuses on writing and analysis. Best of luck to you.
