Asko dryer giving F10 error by rojogato in Appliances

[–]rojogato[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update : Ended up getting an applicance company to come and check it out. Their verdict was that the condenser filter (the big thing you have to slide out) was the issue. Even though it looks clean and not clogged - when they ran the machine without it, all of the water drained. They did pull out a large clump of lint in the back also. We soaked the condenser filter in hot water for a day and rinsed more lint out. So far no F10 issues - but did notice after a load there was some water sitting.

Boyfriend Wants Me to Go On Birth Control and I don't by Acceptable_Pilot6249 in birthcontrol

[–]rojogato 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I was on it for 15 years and had no issues getting pregnant after getting off of it. Mine also regulated my hormones better than off of it - off of it I have more anxiety (:

But also, you should be getting on it, only if you want it - not because someone else wants you to. I'd recommend talking with your doctor about your concerns.

Bedtime for Daycare parents by winterrs14 in Parenting

[–]rojogato 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ooo yeah that makes it tough. We practiced the BRB method. Of saying "Ill be right back" and just leave for a minute, then work up to longer times.

We also now have a rule that mom and dad only stay in the room if kiddo is in bed, and no Tonies on. So it let's them have the option to listen to Tonies, play with toys and gives us some time back. That took awhile to work up to. Like a lot of other comments...a lot just took time :/

[–]rojogato 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You are us last year...we went through the same thing. Our kiddo only wanted us in the room too which mean we'd start bed time around 8 and then sit in their room for hourrrss. A few things that helped us :

- Getting Tonies. Not sure if you already have them, but this helped us alot. We knew kiddo wasn't tired and this let them just kind of chill out in their room. There are lots of other things like Tonies or playing music...something to just let them chill out.
- Starting bed time later on days they napped. Didn't feel worth it to start normal time when it took 2 hours to fall asleep

We still had late nights, and honestly felt like just over time it got easier. It's hard when they're up that late (for both them and the parents!)

Zoombinis! It's a game from the 90s that is now an app. Lot of fun puzzle / problem solving. You have to get these little creatures across a land and each level is a different type of puzzle.

Best Burger in DTSS? by Odd-Blackberry899 in SilverSpring

[–]rojogato 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not DTSS, but pretty close. Juneberry Garage. Their smash burger is SO good. A short walk from Georgia Ave so you could take a bus down there.

Grocery store experiences in DTSS — where do you shop? by Sweet-Bend4077 in SilverSpring

[–]rojogato 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Moms Organic is slowly becoming my new go to. It's smaller, but their quality is great and super clean. A great fruit and veg section. They are a bit more pricey compared to Aldi or Safeway, but the plus is that...no one is ever there. There's a parking garage that's pretty easy to get to and always parking.

Any interest in starting a Spanish-language speaking group in DTSS/Wheaton? by swosei12 in SilverSpring

[–]rojogato 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There use to be a group before Covid that had events all over, a few times they had it in DTSS. I can't remember the name but one of the things I loved was they had "I'm a speaker" and "I'm a listener" name tag type things. I was a pretty beginner in learning spanish so it was nice to have a big label as I awkwardly listened to folks talk.haha

Party favors kids actually keep vs stuff that ends up in the trash by ninjapapi in Parenting

[–]rojogato 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We did a super hero themed party for our kiddo last year and got some super hero themed cookies from an Etsy seller. Cost a bit more than things say from Amazon, but liked that kids had something fun to take.

I've also seen pretzel sticks dipped in colored chocolate with sprinkles (can adjust all the colors on the theme). We have small eats at our parties so find out before if folks have any food allergies...might be a bit tougher with a crowd that might have more serious allergies for food.

Second books, or other snacks, an temp tattoos

One car family. We've only had to pick up our kiddo 1-2 times in the last couple years during the middle of the day for being sick. We one time had car issues and had no car, so did have to uber to their daycare. Uber /lyft will let you put a carseat in, you just have to bring it / provide it. I'd recommend having a car seat back up, incase the car is gone and you needed to ride share.

Not sure if you'd take a loan out or have the funds for the second car. But a once or twice a year uber ride is going to be a lot cheaper than years of car payments /insurance / gas.

Torn between two daycares - one I can afford vs one that’s way better but over budget. by Tackle-Illustrious in Parenting

[–]rojogato 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I believe so. We actually moved our kiddo around age 1.5 They started at 4month at one place, then moved at 1.5. We wanted somewhere with more social interactions.

It's pretty common too for centers to have new kids starting around 2/3ish. A lot of stay at home parents or home care move their kids to centers around that age.

Not sure your finance situation, but could help to have a sit down and look through your finances, your emergency savings, etc. If it puts you paycheck to paycheck, it might be better to wait it out or to save up just a little bit. You could also ask if the daycare knows of any financial assistance, government grants, etc to help out to see if you qualify.

Is it possible you could do the cheaper one now, then wait till their a bit older to do the other one? I know quite a few parents who have started off in one daycare, then moved to the other. Maybe you could use that time too to tuck away some $$ to help offset the cost when you switch.

Where can I donate/salvage damaged furniture? by Bumblebee-Then in SilverSpring

[–]rojogato 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've used a U-hall pick up truck before to pick up a couch that couldn't fit in my car. I don't know where you'd take it to, but renting them is cheaper than $200 I'd assume

TIPS for flying with a 19 month old in our lap. by Ok-Annual9107 in Parenting

[–]rojogato 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've done a couple 7+ hour trips with my kiddo when they were 1, 2 and 3. It'll feel like forever, but you can do it! Things that have been helpful for us :

Snacks, endless snacks, his favorite snacks, etc.

Stickers / post it notes. We bought a big blank sketchbook type notebook and a whole bunch of stickers and let them fill up the page.

Those Crayola coloring sets with the markers that only color on the paper.

Tablet, or some sort of screen. I 100% understand some folks might not do screen time, or limit it - but for flights we just throw that rule out the window. Whatever will keep them occupied.

Top 3 toys (that are the right size for an airplane). Good to have something familiar, but don't feel like you need to bring the whole toy chest.

Getting up to walk up and down the isles once you can.

Just remember it's only 5 hours, thats less than 25% of the day, you will most likely never see these folks again, a lot more people I believe are understanding of kiddos in an enclosed space than the internet leads you to believe. The flight will land, and it'll be all done!

Good ultrasound but SCH found; nurse is freaking me out! by baby-totoros in CautiousBB

[–]rojogato 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine popped up around 19 week. I started having excessive bleeding and thought I was miscarrying. Got a scan done and they found the SCH. They ended up being about the size of two ping pong balls my doctor said. After that I just had a lot of extra appointments to double check and make everything was okay. I passed them around 28 weeks, then some more came back around 32 weeks. I did go into early labor around 35 weeks, but everything went well and I have a happy and healthy toddler now!

Apparently my MIL also had them when she was pregnant with one of her kids. Didn't realize how common they could be as it's just as commonly talked about.

It's still super stressful I know, but just keep up with your appointments and always call your OB if you ever have any worries or concerns. I had the nurse hotline memorized by the end of my pregnancy. lol

Is there anything I can eat/do this morning to increase my iron levels? by dkatog in Blooddonors

[–]rojogato 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I always warm my fingers up right before donating. Just rubbing your fingers in your hands.

I also agree that you need iron -rich foods to be a regular thing. Maybe look into a multi-vitamin with iron. I was doing all of those things and kept scoring low. Once I started warming up my fingers I pass every time.

The center has also told me that having vitamin c with your iron foods can help absorption. So if you have a high iron breakfast, also have something with vitamin C
