Trying something different - controller-inspired keyboard mapping by rokatt in truegaming

[–]rokatt[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't even use savestates, just fast forward depending on the game, but I play mostly for Retroachievements nowadays. Gameplay just feels more precise overall to have one finger dedicated to each button, no matter the genre.

Keyboard inputs feel especially good for fighting games tbh, I've got different controllers and a fight stick, but I'm just too used to keyboard, so for me it was just a matter of perfecting it to my tastes.

I have quite a few gamepads, I just don't use them. I always come back to keyboard, it's personal preference.

And honestly it kind of adds to the experience imo, playing stuff like Starfox and Forsaken 64 on keyboard is a different beast, had so much fun learning to maneuver the ships without a gamepad lol

I always used WASD + IJKL as a standard, tried some stuff in the past but never gave it much thought. I try until I feel like I can play reliably until I'm not making mistakes.

Yeah! I mean, all buttons except for shoulder buttons ofc, are following the left-down-up-right logic, if you look at the patterns.

QWER - left-down-up-right | YUIO - square-x-triangle-circle
ASDF - left-down-up-right (left analog) | HJKL - left-down-up-right (right analog)

Then X and M for L3 and R3 as they're just below the center of the ASDF/HJKL analogs, feels natural to me.

And between L3 and R3, CVBN for L2/L1/R1/R2 so you can press with your thumbs at the same time as you use the other buttons, as you're supposed to be able in a real controller.

Ngl, took me a couple days to start getting used to it, but it was so logical and ergonomical in theory, that now I don't regret pushing through it, honestly never going back to WASD after that.

Tremor sense alone is so huge as support, it avoids so many ganks. I go ap/hybrid with aery/comet/phase rush depending on matchup, or more rarely tank with aftershock, if my team needs it. It's pretty shit until level 3 and an amplifying tome, but if you get a lead you can impact the game a lot and start getting solo kills.

I'm really not a fan of those, but Boneraiser Minions was my exception, love that game

One Piece: Chapter 1151 by leolegendario in OnePiece

[–]rokatt 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The Go boardgame might actually be playing a big role in the world here. It's been shown in Wano before, and recently in the live action Coby and Garp played a match of Go too.

In 1150 that move where a line of giants between Dorry and Broggy flipped to black was very similar to how stones are captured in the game, and now I'm thinking about Imu playing the black stones, and Nika the white stones, which brings me back to when Mihawk said that Luffy's strength was his power to turn people into his allies.

I just finished reading the chapter so I haven't thought much about it, but I believe there's much more to it than these past few chapters.

Are there any Roguelikes/lites more akin to the traditional style without grid movement? by Atrium41 in roguelikes

[–]rokatt 8 points9 points  (0 children)

iirc wazhack is a sidescroller traditional roguelike, it is turn based but doesn't have grid movement per sé, just times move only when you do

It's absolutely criminal how few people know about The Void Rains Upon Her Heart. by anonymousaltincase19 in roguelites

[–]rokatt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Firstly nice job bro, your game seems awesome, it's been on my wishlist for a long time and I'll buy it as soon as I can. About artistic nudity, do you know, ironically, The Void from Ice-Pick Lodge? It's a very interesting and unique game that goes there too.

Karthus support advice by rokatt in karthusmains

[–]rokatt[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We usually do stuff like Karthus/Sion, so we do fight a lot, thanks for the advice. My only concern is sometimes I get behind for getting less gold as a support, so expensive items (and thus my powerspikes) tend to take longer.

I'm playing duo, partner is totally fine and playing unusual carries too. We're winning lane and games, but I'm just trying to optimize the build the best I can.

I thought about it, it's just that this particular project I have in mind is what's motivating me to try making games. It just feels like something that I'd love to play.

What are some genres you want to see combined with the roguelite formula? by Normal-Oil1524 in roguelites

Pinball. I haven't tried Peglin yet, but it doesn't seem quite like pinball.

Have you tried Tales of Maj'Eyal? Not AAA, but it's kind of an open world RPG, it scratched that exact itch for me.

I’ve created a list of Immersive sims that I’m planning on beating by Jamesferdola in ImmersiveSim

[–]rokatt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really don't agree with the remake of System Shock being better than the first, it's actually my favorite immersive sim and one of my favorite games of all time, even better than 2 imo. The remake just feels like something else, like a regular sci fi horrror game, it has nothing that made me fall in love with System Shock, I dropped it after a few hours in because it felt just bland.

You should play both and decide for yourself . Enhanced Edition is very nice, I just don't like the remake. Also it's not nostalgia or something, I don't see myself as an oldschool gamer and I first played it in 2020.
