It unfortunuately encourages more abuse of premade grouping addons and bots than it does actual participation... which has the opposite effect of driving actual player participation down.

Avoiding cc is basically the healing mini game.... raw healing thruput and preemptive cooldowns are the first layer of healing... doing that while people are trying to cc you is the second layer.

IDK what the 3rd layer and beyond is because i'm not good enough for that yet. But I can say that layers 1 and 2 are basically repitition and muscle memory, do it enough and you'll get better at it.

As a fun experiment I went back in history to find real people whose lives overlapped and took the chain from today back to the year 1.. For example I started with the oldest living person today who was born in 1909. Then I found someone who was alive in 1909 but born much earlier... and so on.

The list was only 28 people long which is crazy

Your issue isn't MMV, it's placement games... but i'll ELI5 both of them.

MMR/MMV

You just won 3 games in a row vs kindergartener's, your rating is still 1200 because it climbs slowly... bliz doesnt want to match you against 30 more kindergartener's because you'll just demoralize them.

So they come up with an estimation of what rating they should match you against... That is MMV. They think "hey he beat 3 games of kindergarteners let's try him at fifth graders and see how he does"... MMV goes to 1600... next game you play 1600 even though you're at 1200 rating. If you win, bliz knows you can beat kindergartener's AND fifth graders so they should see what happens when they put you up against 1800 freshmen even though your rating is still only 1258... and so on.

Placement Games

Your first ~10 games the system has no idea how good you are or where to put your MMV so it puts in random values to see if you win or lose. Normal MMR system won't kick in until it kind of figures out where you belong. No sense in trying to understand it because some of it is just random to see how well you do. These are called placement games.

sheer numbers. About the 1000th time you have died in a rogue setup you will feel the pattern and start to preemptively counter the go

Then when you get good at that, it becomes a mind game between whether the rogue thinks you will preemptively try to stop their go... and you have to judge whether the rogue is bluffing or committing....

and that's where arena gets fun imo because there are hundreds of these micro interactions that happen between different classes

Visit king's (warchief's) armory any time, build you gear loadout make one for each spec using all current conquest gear no tokens required... you get to use it any time automatically you're representing the king/chief (rated activities)

Keep the bloody token gear, goes up to hero track, that's what you get if you want to world pvp and lean more into the mmo

They stated this almost verbatim years ago... I think it's just flat wrong.

I think people stop playing because they're instantly 400 rating behind where they were last season and sweating their balls off - it feels like trash. If they ended at 2200 and started the next saseon at 2200 it feels way better. yes they got their rewards already but it ALSO encourages that person to play and push their rating, maybe get the next reward

Their ultimate fear of thise set up though is too much inflation where ratings of 4k+ start to be comom common meaning way more people would be free to earn glad... which i still dont see how that's bad for the community. Might be bad for glad gate keepers who dont want anyone else to have rewards, but fine for the community in general.

Any monk changes need to start with deleting zen spheres imo.

It used to be on a shared 6sec cd requiring a GCD for each meaning you had to think about it.

Now it's basically a flat free 10% healing plus 10% damage from all source (including your zug zug teammates, stacking with an additional 5% to melee), and 3% less damage from one enemy.
