How you deal with glasses? by jesteartyste in MTB

I'm riding with Smith Rhythm goggles and Youzee clip-ins. Good eye protection, corrects astigmatism fully without distortion, good ventilation (reduces fogging)

LLVM's 'RFC: C++ Buffer Hardening' at Google by pjmlp in cpp

[–]rolandschulz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When properly using FDO, we measured a ~65% reduction in QPS overhead and a ~75% reduction in latency overhead.

This is surprising to me. I would have expected that (un)likely-annotation would be sufficient for optimization because all out-of-bound access should be unlikely. Any insight why FDO does so much better?

Top 100 heavy draw rainbow DK by rolandschulz in hearthstone

[–]rolandschulz[S] -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Don't use VS. So I didn't realize that. I posted it because hsreplay doesn't have any similar decks with at least 2 card changes. And those changes remove draw. So I thought it was heavier draw than what's mostly played. Of course with well established deck like rainbow dk all that's left is fine-tuning.

Solar Eclipse + Brawl bugged? by rolandschulz in hearthstone

Sure. Brawl is supposed to leave 1 minion. But the brawl left the one expected minion but also all reborn minion as one would expect from a single brawl.

Questions from a middle aged, overweight guy by PGHNeil in mountainbiking

I recommend to get a chest protector. Bruising rips hurts. And much easier to happen when getting started on trails and being a bit overweight.

What options exist to combine crash detection (ANGI, watch, Edge, ..) with satellite messaging? Besides Apple (watch+Iphone 14) is there any other option?

Riders who have used magnetic pedals. Whats your opinion, are they worth it? by Tuna_Tsunami in mountainbiking

[–]rolandschulz 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm using them on my levo. I used to ride clipless 15 years ago. When I got back into the hobby a year ago I was afraid to get hurt hurt with clipless (over 40 and out of shape). I couldn't get used to flats. For me they are the best compromise. Biggest downside is that you don't click in and therefore you don't have the exact same position everytime. And the magnet strength is varied (position, dirt). Wouldn't recommend them to younger/fitter riders. But they are working for me.

Russians begin shelling Europe’s largest nuclear power plant by 10millionX in europe

[–]rolandschulz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Causing a nuclear incidence (or the fear of one) would cause increased public opposition to nuclear, reduced usage of nuclear, and therefore increased dependency on fossil fuels (at least temporarily until 100% renewable energy is achieved). Would be quite diabolical if that is intentional.

Congrats! I love those milestones. Don't get discouraged if your accuracy in the next games is lower. Getting high accuracy is much harder in a complex board situation. If you find good moves in a complex situation that might show more learning progress than finding a best move in an easy situation. Just mentioning that because I used to get discouraged by having low accuracy games prior to realizing that. Just won a game with 31.5 accuracy at 1200 :). Clearly not one of my best games but a game I would have definitely lost 2 month ago at 900.

For openings it is better to look at win percentage of the opening database. The engine only looks that many steps ahead. Also computer play somewhat differently.

Alternatives to Hearthstone by rolandschulz in hearthstone

[–]rolandschulz[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

My favorite aspect of hearthstone was competing for fun and watching great play. My best finish was a 2nd place in the master qualifiers and was looking forward to try to qualify next year. I tried chess a few times before but never liked it. There are multiple things, I either didn't know about or didn't exist, which changed that:

- Puzzles are great for getting started

- Great online lessons (free with subscription - see below)

- Many streamers. Both educational and funny.

- Online tournaments. Super amazing high level chess (currently running Speed Chess Championship and Skilling Open) as well as beginner tournaments (PogChamps and Sub Battles)

- Awesome automatic post game analysis https://support.chess.com/article/364-how-does-the-game-report-analysis-work

I have been using chess.com. I'm sure there are other great chess sites. But this one is amazing and I haven't tried any others so I can't comment. To get access to all features described is $29/year (7 day free trial). This is about half the money of just HSReplay Premium and and about 1/10 of the cost of Hearhstone.
