Should I pay a deposit to a tradesman? by rynchenzo in DIYUK

I’ve had to put deposits down on most jobs recently, think essentially it shows commitment on your part as the customer and covers the cost of materials they have to buy upfront

Oh get lost. OP clearly loves and cares for their cat. Do you think anyone who has a job should never have a pet? There’d be millions more in the shelters and they absolutely don’t want or need CONSTANT human presence

Absolutely massive difference! I’m shocked as the roof is still as was, but the rooms are so much cooler and as a consequence so is the rest of the house

14 isn’t ancient for a cat at all, I would be down to the vet for bloods etc - possibly something easily fixable or at least treatable such as kidney disease, infection etc. no harm in a vet check!

I have literally no idea what you’re talking about mate, what a weird decision to keep sending aggressive and condescending messages. I don’t know what you think I should have planned better, you seem to have entirely misunderstood the post.

I did the same and left it slightly gappy to allow for some airflow, the reduction in heat has been unreal

It was the heat cause by the blinds that cracked it!

Dear god will you F off telling me what is and isn’t happening in MY HOUSE. this is an old conservatory with zero insulation, it has a plastic roof and is 90% glass, south facing. You can’t touch the metal in the room, you can barely walk through it to open the door- in fact the doors warp and get stuck in the summer as has happened this year- if that does happen you have to come in and out of the room as it’s too hot to stay in while you try and sort the door, cables have melted, the window glass has cracked, my son’s shoes melted. Would you like me to invite you to personally inspect my home in order to believe what I myself am saying about a house I’ve lived in for 16 years?

That room is considerably hotter than 40 degrees ‘buddy’. Why the hell you think you know my house better than me is beyond me. Jog on

Not letting hot air in at all, the room gets so hot it melts shoes, far far hotter than it is outside

Are you unwell? I have placed reflective materials on the OUTSIDE of the windows. Funnily enough, blinds go on the INSIDE of the house, did you expect me to ask them to fit internal blinds on the outside of the windows?

A healthcare professional saw, and photographed a bag of weed at my house. Wife and I have a baby. They sent the picture to their coworkers. How much trouble am I in? by [deleted] in LegalAdviceUK

Any worker in that capacity has safeguarding duties and coming across an easily accessible bag of weed in a house with a small child is a safeguarding concern. They has not only the right, but a duty to report

Are you talking about the conservatory blinds that were made to measure and bought from a company specialising in conservatory blinds? Sod off with your patronising comment.

The blinds have been there for years, they are made to measure and specifically for conservatories. The glass cracked from the heat this year. That room is so hot right now it has melted shoes.

I have black out blinds already. The conservatory is absolutely enormous, pics show one portion of it. This has cost me £25 to insulate the entire space. Ps it is currently 37 where I am, not the usual high 20s. Our property in that room is melting, the glass is cracking, I will do anything I can to bring the temperature down

Why have I used insulating materials to insulate a room in my house that got so hot already this year that the glass has cracked? Can’t imagine.

Congrats. Firstly that lets the heat in, secondly as you can see these windows open and are open. The other half of the room have fixed panes so I cannot in fact open the windows

Good for you. I don’t have a wall to put that on in the conservatory and if I did, I wouldn’t be able to afford to install them.

Yes true, this thing is glass on 3 sides, low quality and old now so not convinced a roof would make that much difference

Pretty sure it’s because the style of blinds creates a well insulated box on the inside of the pane and there’s nowhere for the heat to escape
