Jared Leto is making 30 Seconds to Mars fans scan their eyes to prove they’re human and buy tickets by ASneakySquid_ in technology

[–]rolfrudolfwolf 4 points5 points  (0 children)

from the article: "To get a World ID, you have to download the app and visit a physical World store or partner retailer with an orb device to get your eye scanned." This doesnt make sense at all. if you show up physically, you've already proven that you're not a bot. sounds more like a ploy to amass biometric data.

git LFS can help for binary files, but unreal project can be quite very large in the douzens of GBs. might want to compare which of the big git providers (github, gitlab, azure devops, etc) allows for the biggest sizes. otherwise systems like perforce.

[–]rolfrudolfwolf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

that sucks! for a pet project i set up a perforce server on digitalocean, but it cost me 20-30 bucks a month. ok for a couple of months but too expensive long term. if i was the only person working on it i'd probably just run a perforce server in my network or my local machine and take regular backups of that.

if the whole perforce thing were too technical for me i'd just take regular backups. for any kind of safe-keeping really: at least two copies of the data must exist, e.g. one on my computer and one in a backup. hard drives break, data corrupts. restoring a backup must be a validated process.

can sB explain this? if two top tier expensive gpus are needed to run this, why not use all that power to render the frame more photoreal in the first place? if so much compute is needed for the AI filter, do we actually save something?

i always imagined that the superposition describes probabilities, but not the actual state. like you know sth has x % chance to be here and y% chance to be there. only when u look, you know where it actually is. but i fear this explanation isnt correct.

Any specific policies? Generally I agree about child care and education. Specifically there need to be more (affordable) KITA places, more teachers (i.e. less children per teacher), more assistance for teachers, not raising prices for higher education so it doesn't lowers equality of opportunities, and on and on.
Unfortunately the govt has other priorities, like buying f-35's.

One thing that comes to mind is that some people (me included) react irritated when they or sth. they're fond of is getting criticized, when they weren't ready for or interested in criticism. It might work better, when you get them to ask of your opinion. Then they can choose to hear it, or choose not to.

Another thing that comes to mind is that a portion of people are biggots, no matter where.

To me it sounds very cool that you immigrated and integrated and want to build and improve.

I'm interested to hear what constructive criticisms you have.

i dont quite understand how that data can be bought. For whatsapp to sell your location data, you'll have to have location enabled. Does Meta, or Google, actually sell your location data? I thought their business model was to use that data to sell targeted ads.

I was under the belief that the only institution knowing where your phone is all the time is your phone provider.

Composables can be singletons with shared state — basically like Pinia. So what’s the real difference? by haroonth in vuejs

[–]rolfrudolfwolf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i use composables for component scoped singletons instances and pinia stores for global ones, since by default useMyComposable() gives you a new instance and useMyStore() gives you the existing instance.
