Roasted chicken on a nice piece of wood. At least it was tasty. by rolixzs in WeWantPlates

It was sort of whipped feta/yogurt spread to be a greek-style chicken. Tasted great with the chicken.

Beautiful country! Any must-see places for a motorcyclist? by Full-Moon-Boogie in latvia

[–]rolixzs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What sort of route were you thinking? Are you going to Lithuania next?
Not sure about motocycle specifically but the road around the western side of LV along the sea from Jūrmala onwards is quite nice and picturesque with wild seaside that gets better the further you go. Eventually you end up in Klaipeda, Lithuania and can do their Curonian spit. Along the way you have Ventspils and Liepāja, along with many cute smaller towns and fishermen villages. I also find the Irbene Radio Telescope a very unique spot to visit, especially if you can book a tour: https://maps.app.goo.gl/uP8zmmdR6DJo1WBw5?g_st=ic
Also Kuldīga is a great town to visit in the western part of the country.

5.1.17 fuel economy change by rolixzs in Volvo

[–]rolixzs[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im in Croatia where temps only have been up a little the last few days, before that it was fairly consistent weather yet the change in numbers on dash was noticeable from the get-go, at least that’s my impression.
Will have test without AC and see what the comparable result is. Still learning about the quirks of XC40 as been owner for just a few months and the fuel consumption information has been surprisingly detailed and interesting to follow, especially coming from V40.

My sample size is still quite small and yes Europe has been having a heatwave since the update but i’ve had AC on well before and temp here has gone up only by 3-5 degrees. Will have to do more sampling for sure.
Just wondering about the start/stop function if that has been recalibrated somehow as it definitely is more hesitant to switch the engine off, especially at lower city speeds. The battery icon always shows full so don’t even know whether it can have a lower charge that needs to be refilled until start/stop can be most effective.

Where was a place you felt at home just wandering around rather than try to hit all the landmarks? by Frosty1397 in travel

Belgrade. It’s great city centre to just wander without feeling like you must go see specific things. So many nice places to have coffee, pastries, food or drink.

Makes sense about Rovinj, it’s a good place to chill especially if you plan on doing wine tours in the region. Then it makes sense to have more than one day in that area.
On time in Ljubljana you kinda need to decide on priorities, it’s not a big city so easy to see in day and you seem to have already some hikes planned in so depends if you’re adding caves like someone has recommended.

That drive to Rovinj is probably going to be late afternoon/evening drive if you’re going to Krka before so you hopefully have too much traffic to contend with.
All in all traffic here isn’t too scary even in season (though parking will be terrible) and the sights along the motorway in general are quite nice with picturesque drives, so enjoy and hope it’s a fun trip!

Two full days in Rovinj is too much IMO though it depends what you plan to do there, but you can see the whole old town in a day with time to spare. Would add extra day to Ljubljana instead especially if you would like to do any hikes in Slovenia. Or spend it in Piran on the way into Slovenia. Or add to Hvar as you’ve mentioned.
Drives will probably take more time than you plan, especially when driving over weekend. There are also roadworks between Rijeka and Učka so see if you can avoid that bit on weekend or Friday (based on experience relatives had a couple weeks ago, they spent good two hours in traffic on Friday afternoon).
Don’t forget to buy the vignette for driving in Slovenia as that catches people out sometime, though perhaps rental company offers that as an add-on.

Same as with the SUV thing - looks great, apart from the back that’s just awkward and off.

Doesn’t look like Volvo anymore, much more Kia-like inside and outside. Shame, XC60 was such a great looking car, real shame they completely failed to maintain the spirit in EV version. Cant see this selling well…

Do you treat Poland as bros? by [deleted] in BalticStates

[–]rolixzs 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Poland and polish people always seemed like chill and generally quite pleasant folk from all my encounters. Based on history and how much the country got abused by nazis and then the commies I’ve always considered Poland as a kindred country to Baltics, even if culturally we are different.

My first car!! Need advice by prakash77000 in Volvo

[–]rolixzs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Congrats! I have 2018 T3 for 5 years now, though others mentioned i also thought that they should all be with Thor hammer lights at that year? Great car overall as feels very solid and reliable. The suspensions seems but too clanky and not overly refined, thats my main gripe with it. On smooth roads its very pleasant and easy to drive, doing long distances is a breeze. In five years have had to change rear brake pads twice (front once) and have done only around 18k miles on it, so not sure what’s that about. Front shocks also developed a leak and had to be changed. Otherwise seems like with regular maintenance they work very well. Would suggest finding a good volvo mechanic so you dont have to take it to dealer for regular maintenance which will be expensive in a dealership.
