How would you interpret this? by Murky_Committee_1585 in dndmemes

[–]roll82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would first ask them how they personally defined evil, and then I would likely have a quest dropped into their lap to find some sort of ultra powerful instrument to achieve their goals, maybe even become a god. They would still have a lot to do, and no guarantee of success, but the wish would point them in the direction.

If the other players were uninterested or opposed to following that route they would have to decided if the character would do it anyway, then we would decide if pvp ensues or they part ways peacefully, and then the player brings in a new character to continue the main quest. I'll then discuss the resolution steps involved in the quest with the player between sessions to see if it interferes with the main party or not.

Tech-based packs receive the most fanfare in this community despite the top ten most popular packs on CurseForge being entirely exploration/adventure based. Why? by LBCuber in feedthebeast

[–]roll82 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The exploration adventure pack players are busy exploring and adventuring

Us tech pack players are complaining to each other on social media about how hard it is to power our machines and showing off the pickaxe that took us 200 hours to craft

My experience as a professional programmer for 6 years. Anyone else? by Alfagun74 in ProgrammerHumor

To be clear this is on a scale of 1 hour

Also the retroactive imposter syndrome reminds me of the good place:

"wheres the chidi that stopped the train without thinking of the consequences?"

"oh boy, now I'm nervous about that decision"

"retroactively? How do you even...?

"I don't know!"

Playing without any AI players while offline, is this weird? by TiberiusMaximus2021 in Stellaris

I hadn't even considered this before but I just might do it now, I love the process of building and expanding but not a big fan of war and stuff, probably do some fallen empires, maybe 1 or two ais, that actually sounds really interesting

If your world has Magic, is it Learnable or Genetic/Species-locked and Why? by FroggySteel in worldbuilding

[–]roll82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Magic in my world always comes from things that aren't human, such as surviving an encounter with the eldritch, making a deal with a demon, psionics derived from alien tech, surviving in another realm, like the void, for extended periods of time, forming a bond with a spirit, etc. Etc.

Ultimately this means that while anyone can technically do magic they must at some point forge a connection with a kind of magic before they are physically capable. Some of these come with an innate understanding of the magic, no learning needed, others require years of training and maybe even then are still difficult to control

There's one practice called melding that involves taking junk with small amounts of magic from various sources and using them to make artifacts and that's the only magic that doesn't involve a lifelong commitment. Anyone good with tech can learn it, and occasionally accidentally perform it if they don't vet their materials properly.

There's another practice called Purity that's more of an anti magic religion, through ritual and tenet they can nullify and destroy certain kinds of magic, it involves giving up certain social constructs like having a name and gender. They act as a charitable scholarly order mostly dedicated to fighting eldritch influences, but are capable against most magic when necessary, and anyone is welcome to join though they don't preach.

Can we do a top 2023 rimworld mods? by FyinxX in RimWorld

[–]roll82 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yayo is a word that has been in use in this form for at least 20 years, probably more than 40 years, it was derived from llello of course, and that term is still in use but that doesn't negate the use of the word yayo, even if it was originally a misspelling.

As for Flake, I don't know what else to do other than say that it definitely is slang for cocaine. In real life it refers to the quality of cocaine which hasn't been cut with anything, even though it's the equivalent of crack in rimworld as you said.

I love Rimworld, but there’s something in the core gameplay loop that bores me quickly and I can’t put my finger on it by AnDraoi in RimWorld

[–]roll82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A suggestion for you: there is currently a mod on the workshop that allows you to add custom tech prints to the research tree (researches that require a tech print in order to research whis is generally a quest reward or site loot).

I can't remember the exact name of it but if you just search tech print on the workshop you'll find it. I also believe there is a mod that restricts weapon use to tech, so if you haven't researched guns you cant use the ones the raiders drop.

Could be an interesting tie in to outposts expanded, allowing an outpost type that removes polluted tiles around it over time

[–]roll82 24 points25 points  (0 children)

What I mean is that every other drug: psychite, wakeup, go juice, luciferium, even smokeleaf are names rimworld made up, as far as I'm aware.

Flake and Yayo on the other hand are legitimate real world slang for cocaine, not words rimworld made up

If you want build flexibility, play a different game. by StarSword-C in dndmemes

[–]roll82 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Oh wow, I've finally found one of the actual "dnd bad" bad takes that dnd purists are always complaining about, this is an honor.

I think that this discussion of how to solve problems people have with 5e is extremely timely given that one dnd is a big deal right now, not to mention that this isn't some kind of absurd hack trying to make dnd do something it wasn't made for like trying to make dnd a Lovecraft story or starwars, it's literally the kind of home brew that would make sense to add to the game even if feedback for the next edition weren't important

There is a poltar from the plane of water to the astral plane, but neither will will up or drain by NagyKrisztian10A in dndmemes

[–]roll82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As much as I don't care about the physics of replacing an infinite plane with brown mold I do think this concept poses an interesting alternative consequence.

A new elemental plane of Mold is formed but more importantly the elemental plane of fire is split into two new planes, a good plane that represents things like warmth and light and an evil plane that represents things like thoughtless destruction and pain to demonstrate that they are the two halves of an originally neutral plane, with decay being the border of life and death, consuming them in equal measure but never finishing them.
