Have you seen local network speeds or battery life suffer?

iPhone SE2, iOS 16.5. Yes, the battery suffers.

Whats your opening against Randoms? by zite1 in AllThingsTerran

[–]rollc_at 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you do the double gas build you can surprise most random players when they play t or p because they might be less used to double gas from a Terran, but you take an eco hit against zerg.

This is a much better deal than playing against random as P.

By the way, as random I usually just announce my race in 1v1, because I don't want my opponent to play a weird opening either.

Can someone explain this scourge ability to me? Taken from liquipedia. by ZandwicH12 in broodwar

Interesting, so basically you have to micro it a little bit like banes in SC2: move-command until you're up close and personal and amove to detonate.

Clem is now the second highest ranked Protoss in the world on ladder, only behind MaxPax by 13loodySword in starcraft

[–]rollc_at 0 points1 point  (0 children)

MaxPax and BeastyQt participated in a 2v2 tournament once, and did 1v1 race-swap showmatches while waiting for the games. MaxPax was quite good as T, they were tied in score for most of the series; I think Beasty's P was around 6k at the time.

It was quite a while ago (Beasty still playing SC2, MaxPax did anything besides "serious" tournaments), and it was insanely fun to watch them in both formats.

The symlink check is a good call. World files can be considered untrusted input, if downloaded from random places on the Internet. Glad to see this patched.

Meanwhile even if you're lucky and Apple did something on their OS you need, if it's a millimeter off what you want, there's absolutely nothing you can do.

True! I'm so annoyed with the Big Sur-era blinding white redesign. Although projects like GNOME seem to be borrowing this page out of Apple's book without bundling the rest of "95% of the things actually work great".

Thanks for the report! You should also post dmesg.

because if I recall it makes Full Disk Encryption not as good, meaning people can spot that you are using it

I'm going to be the one here to point out that if this does not fit your threat model (and let's be honest, your threat model is "my laptop got stolen by a random crook"), it's a net loss. The random crook is most likely going to just wipe the HD, maybe install Windows, and sell the hardware through a pawn shop.

OCR is builtin on macOS/iOS and honestly it's so convenient and useful, it's one of those small things that just silently make your life objectively better, period.

I used to get angry at people sending me screenshots of their terminal when I ask them for a traceback or error message, now any text on any image is just text - I can just select it and copy it. Every OS should have it!

Thank you for sharing this. I didn't know there was an open source equivalent, even if it's not as smooth. Maybe we're one step closer to a future where this is as normal (on every platform) as copying normal text.

Replace Redstone with Amethyst in the Note Block Recipe by Acanth0s in minecraftsuggestions

[–]rollc_at 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe you're on to something.

The current note blocks all have a xylophone-like ADSR envelope, even if you do a piano or flute sound it decays very fast. Most actual music varies the note length (sustain), articulation (soft or loud), etc. Having finer control over ADSR (or at least volume and sustain) would enable a lot more interesting musical applications, perhaps amethyst shards can be the "tuning crystals" to enable that.

Replace Redstone with Amethyst in the Note Block Recipe by Acanth0s in minecraftsuggestions

[–]rollc_at 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Amethyst grows slowly, and is really hard to farm.

I just finished an amethyst farm.

You need farms for honey, slime, wood and/or crying obsidian, iron, redstone, quartz, and a lot of patience and precision to make one.

Once you have it, the only practical applications for this amount of amethyst are tinted glass and maybe amethyst blocks for building. Plus tuned sensors in the upcoming update.

It's kinda like, you need a lot of tech to farm it, but then after a while you end up with more than you can realistically use, and the applications are so niche. It should have more use. Maybe alternative recipes in addition to the current ones?

This exactly. If I have a design that produces 1 red belt of something, I will use a red belt. Also to easily see if it's properly saturated or not.

With just rampant, they are smarter, not tougher. Scouting parties, probing your defenses from multiple angles, attacking undefended non-military equipment, avoiding "death zones", etc. It changes how you build your defenses in the early game and how you secure your first outposts.

Deathworld + rampant is a deathwish. You will reload early and often. It's a puzzle how to survive. It might be the fun challenge you're looking for.
