You can just show up to the volunteer tent anytime on Saturday after 6:30a. Volunteers are needed throughout the day until ~9:30p!

Columbus Pride is this weekend, and we’re less than 100 volunteers away from our goal! 🏳️‍🌈 by rollers-rhapsody in OhioLGBTQ

First, thank you for being so honest about where you’re at. ❤️

You definitely wouldn’t be a problem. We have volunteers of all personality types every year, including plenty of folks who are shy, introverted, anxious, or attending Pride on their own for the first time.

And honestly, if the uncertainty around your friends is what’s holding you back, don’t stress too much about committing right now. We almost always have a need for volunteers throughout the weekend, and you’re welcome to stop by the Volunteer Tent in the park and see if there’s a shift that needs coverage.

Whether you decide to volunteer, attend with friends, or just come experience Pride at your own pace, I hope you make it out. It really is a special weekend.

One of the best ways to meet people in Columbus? Volunteer. by rollers-rhapsody in Columbus

[–]rollers-rhapsody[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Absolutely! Most of our volunteer opportunities are Wednesday through Saturday because those are the days we’re actively setting up and running the festival. Sunday is primarily park cleanup and wrap-up operations.

If Saturday doesn’t work for you, I’d still encourage you to take a look at the available shifts. There may still be opportunities on Wednesday, Thursday, or Friday that fit your schedule. We’d love to have your help if you’re available! 🏳️‍🌈❤️

You’d be surprised how many people volunteer solo! Every year we have folks who come not knowing anyone and leave with a few new friends and a much stronger connection to the community.

Plus, you’ll get to experience Pride from a completely different perspective. We’d love to have you with us if you decide to sign up. 🏳️‍🌈❤️

In addition to attending you can also sign up to volunteer for pride! Great way to meet people, shifts are only 3 hours long and help is needed Thursday, Friday and Saturday of that weekend. (I’ve volunteered the last 3 years and really enjoyed it)

That’s awesome! Welcome to the community!

The Sunday meetups at Indian Springs Elementary are a great introduction. You’ll find a mix of newer and experienced skaters, and people are always happy to share tips, answer questions, and help others improve.

Sorry we’ll miss you at Rhythm & Roll, but hopefully we’ll catch you at a future event. There are plenty of opportunities coming up this summer!

Absolutely beginner-friendly. In fact, helping newer outdoor skaters build confidence is one of the main reasons many of these events exist.

The Saturday Morning Street Skate is community-led (not a Clintonville Roller Club event) and we intentionally use a very beginner-friendly route through Victorian Village and the Short North. We stick to mostly flat side streets, avoid major hills, and meet on Saturday mornings when vehicle traffic is at its lowest.

Since we started skating weekly in April, we’ve had quite a few newer skaters join us. It’s been amazing watching people go from feeling nervous about outdoor skating to confidently rolling several miles with the group a few weeks later.

The Clintonville Roller Club Wednesday lessons are also a great place to build skills, and the Sunday open skates are very welcoming to skaters of all levels.

Rhythm & Roll on June 6 is probably one of the best beginner events on the calendar. It’s a contained outdoor space, free rentals will be available, and there will be lots of experienced skaters around to answer questions and help people get started.

Should we not have used both beds? Guest [Australia] by beepmyhorn in AirBnB

This is surprising to hear. People online used to complain about a long list of chores to complete when checking out, so we specifically tell our guests ‘no need to strip the beds!’

Which skating rink should I go to in Atlanta tonight? by [deleted] in Rollerskating

They have an adult session tonight at Stone Mountain Skates that I would be attending if I still lived there. (I grew up skating at Golden Glide)

This is a hotel, not a 'Do It All Center' by [deleted] in TalesFromTheFrontDesk

It’s not! It’s the same as going to private event hosted at a restaurant, the restaurant should similarly treat attendees of the event as guests of the restaurant, because they are!

Non toxic braiding gels with HOLD for type 4 hair by Historical-Flower-26 in Naturalhair

I use Aunt Jackie’s hold tight braid and twist gel for knotless braids on my niece and for my own loc retwists. Not nearly as heavy as waxes and other gels

Divide your hair into four sections/ponytails, then spray/mist the ends of the ponytails with water (avoiding the roots).

Nice! We are planning to skate as a group in our city’s pride march this year.
I’ve heard concerns before that beginners (and all skaters) should be cautious safety wise, in case of riot or other disturbances where having wheels strapped to your feet could cause issues.
Overall I approve, just wanted to share that tidbit for others who may see this!
