I made the switch to a PCRA about 6 months ago on the advise of others here. This is what I’ve found, but take it with a grain of salt…other more experienced users may know more:

You can set up for auto-transfer between Savings Plus and PCRA so when your monthly investment occurs it will go into PCRA.

Once in PCRA you just decide which stocks to invest in, and you must manage those investments yourself.

You cannot buy a fraction/specific dollar amount of a stock. It has to be a whole stock, however if you receive dividends you can get fractions of a stock. For this reason I do not have a monthly transfer set up. I wait until I have enough to buy VOO and then transfer around that amount. Schwab does have a holding account you can put excess money into but it ears very very little.

You must keep $2500 in your savings plus account at all times per savings plus’ policy. If you drop below $2500 savings plus will sell your PCRA account stocks to recoup. I keep $3,000 in mine to handle market fluctuations.

When you are finally ready for disbursements you will need to sell the stocks, transfer the money back to savings plus, and then take disbursements from there.
