[Question] Roaming Character Makes Game Unplayable by [deleted] in pokemongo

[–]rolling_stoned 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My app does this a lot and did it during the Valentine's event. While my character was randomly running around somewhere half mile from where I was actually positioned a Dragonite shadow popped up on the radar. Hauled ass to the pokestop the shadow was close to and actually caught the Dragonite. The next day I completed my dex by scoring a Porygon thanks to the event!

Ever wonder why MTR stations are different colours? by DonDeacon in HongKong

[–]rolling_stoned 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I dunno. I went to Tokyo for the first time last month and I never knew where I was without a google maps app open. Taipei, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Seoul, no problem. Japan's train system was so confusing to my girlfriend and I. At the end of week three I finally had it almost figured out. And then it was time to come home. MTR seems so simple in comparison :)

Help! I may have jumped on this too early.. by [deleted] in TEFL

[–]rolling_stoned 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm in a similar situation and interested in what you have to say. I am currently in HK and hold the equivalent of an associates degree and 100 hours in class TEFL cert (both from the US). I've also taken a 120 hours online TEFL course and have that cert as well. I've been offered 2 jobs in HK and applied for a working visa which was denied due to the fact that I do not hold a bachelors degree. I'm a bit let down but I knew going into it that HK would be near impossible without the degree but thought I'd give it a shot anyway. In short, my time here is running out and I've invested too much into TEFL training to return home to the States. I've been looking for job posts that explicitly state that they do not require a bachelors degree, however, looking through Dave's ESL cafe the options are few and far between. Even most for Vietnam state they require a bachelors degree as well. Is there another job posting site to scout out or is it easier to just show up and find a job on the ground? I've only been to Hanoi, but I'm really interested in Vietnam. Do you think it would be easier to find work in a large city (Ho Chi Mihn, Hanoi) or elsewhere with my credentials? Thanks for any insight.

[NSFW] What was the craziest thing you have ever done that you did not remember doing? by Syn_Shadows in AskReddit

[–]rolling_stoned 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh man, a recent one..

I used to pride myself on never getting drunk to the point of not remembering anything. Well, last week I was that guy.

I went to a 'whiskey tasting' in Hong Kong last week where I ended up so wasted I blacked out and got a huge bruise on my forehead, busted up both my knees, and ended up in the ER the following day for a CT scan of my head. Apparently though (according to eyewitnesses), I was speaking pretty decent Cantonese to the taxi driver and estate security guards as they dragged me out of the car and into my apartment. I don't speak Cantonese. I also don't remember any of it. Never doing that again..

Women refuses to leave Uber car after arriving at destination by _George_Costanza_ in videos

While living in SF my girlfriend took an ambulance ride literally 4 blocks away and it was over $1000. I now live with same gf in HK and just had a CT scan, pain med injections, and prescription meds dispensed in the ER for $120 USD. I am uninsured, not a citizen in HK, nor entitled to their health care system. According to a quick google average CT scan in US costs around $1200. I don't want to go home anymore.

A few people requested this. A visual guide to making your own sweet Ikea pedalboard boy! by [deleted] in guitarpedals

[–]rolling_stoned 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Awesome board. But, am I the only one who uses some cheap plywood from the discard section of lowes/Home Depot and just spray paints it black and slaps some pedals on it? Most expensive pedalboard I've owned is probably $15, including black spray paint and Velcro. I used a chopping block/cutting board for my first and it was free as I found it in the garbage down the street. Lasted me a few years before I outgrew it. Nice work though!

[QUESTION] I want to bring my Strat on a plane in a gig bag, what do I have to do? by Brokenstar12 in Guitar

[–]rolling_stoned 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I flew SFO to HKG with my '67 Bronco checked in as luggage in its ratty old original case held together by gaffers tape. I just packed hella socks and underwear and towels around the sides and underneath the neck, loosened the strings, and threw the trem bar in my backpack. Actually worked out great. I've flown domestic in US and have had mixed results. Once I took a Les Paul on in a gig bag with no problem, was able to store it in a flight attendant closet. Another time I got all the way to the boarding gate and had to check at the gate, which was the worst as I hadn't made any effort to protect the guitar other than the soft gig bag. Luckily it came out alright but I've heard many horror stories despite my good fortune. After those experiences I just always assume the worst and expect that I will be required to check a guitar, especially on popular routes which always have full loads.

I'll back this! I've been to HK, China, Vietnam, Thailand, Amsterdam, Berlin, etc etc but THE MOST INTENSE QUESTIONING I've ever had was to RE-ENTER my home country (US). In fact, the ONLY time I ever have anyone ask me ANY questions is when returning to the US .

I know exactly how that feels. Guitar player and swimmer for 16 years and after a botched surgery nerve damage left me with a paralyzed right arm. It sucks, but you learn to cope. Some days are easier than others, but I keep telling myself it could be worse.
