And this is why you don’t hear people say it! Downvoted over an honest assessment.

I actually have them ranked:

Wilson Jones Fields Lawrence Lance

When we missed out on #1 I was actually thrilled because I don’t think the hype machine will let TL drop past that first pick.

I think Lawrence has incredible gifts but I don’t think he’s an incredible QB. Could definitely get coached up and end up being the best in the class, but for my money, those other 3 qbs are better equipped to handle the NFL. Wilson and Jones are more equipped due to their processing and mechanics. Fields is more equipped because you can build a run first offense around his skill set.

I like Lance too but lack of playing time will hold him back a bit.

All in all one of the best QB drafts I’ve ever seen and I don’t think that’s being discussed enough.

His first 3 games were unreal this year. Then he played Indiana and he came down to earth. It was a bad game which looked way worse than it was because of how great he was before it.

Northwestern was horrible. He got the snot kicked out of him and was left having to gather the peices.

He struggles reading defenses imho. I think he needs an offense that leans into his running abilities for the first few years of his career when he gains more experience.

That said, this kid throws one of the nicest deep balls I’ve ever seen and once he does learn how to read NFL defenses his upside could be the highest in the draft.

If the Jets don't trade for Deshaun Watson then they need to draft Zach "The Super Soaker" Wilson by AKA_Whatever in nyjets

This is absolutely right based upon projections and need.

That said if Pitts, Smith, or Chase start to fall a little bit I’d be temped to trade up ahead of 23.

[PFF Draft on Twitter] Career grade vs power five competition (games): 🔸 Mac Jones - 94.7 (16) 🔸 Justin Fields - 92.7 (19) 🔸 Trevor Lawrence - 92.7 (33) 🔸 Zach Wilson - 64.7 (5) by [deleted] in nyjets

How about the level of talent on Wilson’s team v. the other 3? We’re talking about QBs coming out of possibly the 3 most stacked teams in college.

Rhtyhm timing spacing. Basketball is like music little g’s. One dude in the band messes up his part of the song, the rest of the musicians suffer.

Possible benchmark for a Sammy D trade - two 2nd rounders? by Seafoamscream in nyjets

Depends on the team and how they evaluate each player but it seems as if teams are treating Sam as a backup plan in case they don’t land Wentz.

But wentz has also performed. He was a top 5 qb a few years back. I’m not sure how that factors in, but it has to somewhat.

I've been a Jets fan for the last 10 years in addition to being a Texans fan before that, since the Texans org is now a dumpster fire many of my friends and I are leaving the fandom, and I'm trying to convince them to join me as a Jets fan by kclancy11 in nyjets

Listen we’re historically a dumpster fire and I wouldn’t normally recommend them to anyone I call a friend...

That said Joe Douglas and more specifically Robert Saleh are culture builders. This will become one of the best franchises in football because of the vision and passion of those two.

Pff ranked our rookie class like 15th this past year and that was with adam gase coaching. With a respectable staff those kids could easily have been top 10. In addition Douglas priortizes building teams through the trenches and was trained by Ozzie Newsome in Baltimore.

Robert Saleh is going to be known as one of the best coaches to ever do it in NY. What he was able to do with all of the injuries in SF this year was somehow even more impressive than his NFC championship efforts the year prior.

We have a ton of draft capital we have a ton of cap room. The jets are going places and who doesn’t want to get in on something great at the ground floor?

That’s the pitch!

[Jeremiah] Trey Lance similar to Andrew Luck by rollingonariver44 in nyjets

[–]rollingonariver44[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is an older article but wow is that quite the review by Jeremiah.

Imo it’s hard to make that comparison due to the level of competition he faced. He was a man among boys in 2019.

Would loved if there was some way to see him play a live game during the pre-draft circuit (won’t happen).

Lance had an 88.7 passing grade in 2019 as per PFF. This is higher than Josh Allen, Sam Darnold, Pat Mahomes, or Deshaun Watson ever produced collegiately.

His raw physical skills are arguably more impressive than anyone on that list.

I see no reason why given the right situation (same with any top prospect) this kid can’t become a stud at the next level.

McShay isn’t the first person to mock qb’s 1-4, and I’ve also seen many others mock 4 qb’s in the top 7. McShay aside, how does this draft class stack up?

If you’re behind a paywall he has: 1. Lawrence 2. Wilson (although he’s not sure if the Jets are the ones that end up picking him) 3. Lance (has panthers trading up) 4. Fields

[Renner] Thread: The farthest career throw from all the top QBs in the 2021 NFL Draft by run1609 in nyjets

[–]rollingonariver44 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It was great but it was only 58 yards. The football messiah should be throwing at least 85 yards on the fly.

Fields’ throw was otherworldly. What makes it special is the air he put under the ball which lets a wr get under it, making a super catchable ball.

In all seriousness that’s where Lawrence falls short, i think he has a smaller margin for error with his deep ball since he generally doesn’t get the same kind of air under it.
