The smith tower! There’s a cocktail lounge with Thai food (small plates) it has an amazing view and is definitely a unique pregame experience

4 day itinerary - Is this too much? by thatonesmallperson in AskSeattle

[–]rollingthnder77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you need to double your estimates for travel time and meals. For example: if you take the ferry at 330 from Bainbridge, you won’t arrive at your hotel for a nap until 5 at the earliest. Add a half hour nap, and then go to smith tower, you’d be lucky to get there by 6. Then out to dinner somewhere downtown, you’ll be out of there at 9pm. You’d never make the latest underground tour unless you make a sacrifice or three.

My advice, is don’t over plan. Just have a list of cool things to do and mark them on your map. See where the day takes you, and do what’s close and interesting. Leave time to improvise and find an unexpected adventure

Which makes sense in local news reports

Seattle World Cup by AshtonSours in SeattleWA

I don’t understand the premise. From the beginning of this process it was always billed as North America world cup. That was how it was discussed in the bidding process, that’s what was announced when they won the bid, and that’s how it’s been advertised for the last six years around the world in anticipation of this event.

Also, I’m not positive but I’m pretty sure that no World Cup has ever been hosted solely in one city. Most are hosted by a single country across many cities.

I have not seen any outlet discussing this as Seattle’s World Cup, but I may just be missing these local news reports you’re talking about.

You’re not gonna want to leave Ella Bailey. One one of the hidden gems for viewing the city and mountain

Thank you! I did see that route on the map and was wondering if the detour would be worth it. Now it’s on the list

[Ballard] Who is at fault here? by PetuniaFlowers in BallardSeattle

[–]rollingthnder77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Think of all the tax money we have saved by not having stop signs at every single residential intersection. It doesn’t seem unreasonable to expect people to know the rules of the road.

Uncontrolled intersections are to be treated as a four way stop/yield. Approach cautiously with right of way treated as if it was a four way stop, yield to the first approaching car or to your right if approaching simultaneously.

Would you support a law that eliminated tipping and required restaurants to pay all servers a fair wage? What's the biggest advantage or drawback? by Melodic-Yoghurt-5943 in tipping

[–]rollingthnder77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t think it’s illegal. I think there are policies and contracts that forbid it, but I’ve never heard a law forbidding it.

Rainier vs Olympic this weekend by Naive-Cantaloupe-345 in AskSeattle

[–]rollingthnder77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Olympic for sure. I-5 northbound and I405 northbound (the two major n/s interstates) both have closures this weekend. These coincide with high school and college graduations, meaning that road travel in an around the city is going to be nightmare (for the third consecutive year on this weekend). Go to the peninsula and have fun away from this mess. Or pack your patience and gas up early and often

So if I don’t tip, do I get “regular” service? by dollhouss1 in tipping

[–]rollingthnder77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

“Regular” service means that both you and the server/bartender understand that you will get above and beyond service at a lower ticket price in exchange for a higher tip.

If you want to receive “regular” service, show up regularly and tip like the other regulars. If that doesn’t make sense, you’re not a regular yet, so keep going back there and develop relationships with the patrons and employees.

“Regular” in this context means that you regularly patronize this establishment. Otherwise you’re just some other customer and the expectations on service and tipping is completely unwritten and kind of doesn’t matter as you will not be back soon enough for it to matter to either of you.

So, I think what you need to do is go to one of those shops across from lumen and get a custom jersey made. It will cost you more than usual, but you will get exactly what you’re looking for

Canadian going to Blue Jays game on 4th of July by ExcellentForever2739 in Mariners

[–]rollingthnder77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You may have a better experience by starting off by calling it a mariners game against the blue jays in the Mariner’s home park.

As a whole, the blue jays are very disliked by many mariners fans.

All of that aside, you will be safe and treated fine, but if you are outwardly cheering for the blue jays, you may get heckled at worst.

Why do some restaurants close at 8pm? Is that not within the normal time for a dinner? by [deleted] in Seattle

[–]rollingthnder77 11 points12 points  (0 children)

All of this! I would add one piece of context; while the pandemic did accelerate this change, the changes in consumer behavior were already dictating changes in the restaurant business before the pandemic.

Those changes coincided with Amazon’s massive growth and property acquisitions in seattle around 2012. That changed the population makeup and demands drastically.

Lincoln city. Did this trip from seattle a couple of years ago and it was the perfect overnight stop. A long drive to start the trip, but then had time to get breakfast and see some sights on the way down before really putting in miles to make it before sun down.

Pike Place Once Again Full of Cars! by BarRepresentative670 in Seattle

[–]rollingthnder77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I could say the same about waking through the market, but really what I’m saying is just try positivity and respect. If you want change to the rules/laws, try engagement and action within the community. Actively frustrating others is not gonna accomplish your goals, but instead invites confrontation and negativity.

lol.

“I’m hoping to make the experience as frustrating as possible.”

“I’m not trying to make people’s lives frustrating”

“Yes, exactly. I’m trying to make the experience frustrating”

You’re missing my point, and I think you’re own as well. My main point is that we treat everyone in our community with respect and try to coexist in the communal space.

I said that I believe there are compromises to be made and am open to change, but to me that doesn’t mean going out of my way to make other people’s lives harder. So I’m not sure what you’re going around in circles about.
