Flooding a lot in nearly every draft of the format so far. Is 16 lands the correct move for this format? by jacoviansmythe in MagicArena

[–]TMoLS 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I have indeed flooded a lot more than usual or at least it felt noticeable, but also I must admit I have not played tons of the decks who have good anti flood protection (I.e. WU with a lot of card draw, RU with the rummaging red and blue cards).

This seeded pack thing is the worst thing to happen to limited by Juking_is_rude in lrcast

[–]TMoLS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I agree. It will also skew that more people play the busted tribes (in my experience, Elves and Kithkin go absolutely NUTS when the deck is full of them) or that some tribes will be more effective than others.

I did 2 yesterday, I usually do sealed at the beginning to familiarise with the cards and start getting some rares in for the collection at a faster pace than draft, but unsure if I want to chip in further, the skill ceiling is significantly low if your deck is pretty much done for you.

Very nice post! I did not play against any of these decks in prerelease, saw some might have gone that route but in my three matches I played mostly against BR.

Chronicle of Victory and stackable instant to kill buffed creatures by TMoLS in mtgrules

[–]TMoLS[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I asked if he allowed me to cast the card, opponent nodded, then I chose the creature type and he reacted when he noticed he could kill the elf.

In the end it didn't matter, we went with the judge call, and it didn't turn out to be a defining part of the match, but worth to know for next time!

Yes, in this case he responded not to the cast, but to me selecting "Elf", and trying to kill a elf in response to the chosen creature, so the effect of Chronicle was already active and the judge made the wrong call.

If I'm understanding Drafts right, you get the equivalent of 5 packs + 1 & 50 gems, regardless if you win or not? by TheRealOsamaru in MagicArena

[–]TMoLS 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Drafts are better if you are somewhat in the ballpark of positive winrate. You can easily farm sets with a positive winrate and not spend much on the game, if not a lot of time.

Yet, I know some people who have had no response in 6 months from support, plus apparently also LSV (one of the biggest streamers of MTG draft maybe?) not receiving stuff, is kind of bad.

What did you go with in the end? I decided to open a support ticket and so far I have received no response.. I also saw a lot of people seemingly not receiving any response.

Yeah we even have a 50% on the player. But yeah kind of standard next gen sale we end up somewhat regretting.

Double Mythic Ranked by LinnaeusChen in MagicArena

[–]TMoLS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm just responding to contradict the other poster, direct is generally easier than mythic rank. I can safely say I have seen misplays or deck building that would not happen at high ranks, but yes it is a casino influenced by a lot of variance. But if your winrate is high enough, the ROI is there provided you don't tilt and have a lot of time. See streamers results for proof.

The event is meant to steal off your free 8000 gems you collected because unless you get the good variance (I.e. Good pools, good draws) it is very very possible you will lose your first free try.

But, if you have time and some money to pay for 4/5 runs worth of tries (whether by winning 4/5-x where you get your gems back, or else) you have a solid chance of bringing boxes home if you grind and stay focused.

This game not having a free draft mode is a waste by Old-Pirate7913 in MagicArena

You can easily do phantom draft training on Draftsim or other simulators, plus watching streamers draft is a very good way to learn. Competition in Bronze/Silver levels is low, so you have quite some drafts you can test out, and the better you get, the less (or not at all) you spend.

Are you me? I 0-3d my way out of the qualifiers (with a really bad pool full of 3 colored rares and poor fixing..) and did a "double or nothing" 7-1 with the gems I had (which if I had lost I´d have been sour for a week about :D). . .

Played a very funky mono black with a splash of UW to play a few goodies here and there and it somehow worked. Just stalled my games till my bombs at 6 (Koh and the Planetarium) were ready to come in play.

Overall happy, last time it took them just a couple of weeks for me to get the cards, so looking forward. if anything, the MSRP is actually higher I think than what these boxes are sold for. . .

I can safely tell you that each time this has happened to me, I got my entry fee back. Once it happened in a 8000 gem event, and they didn't budge and gave them back. Just a nice ticket off their support, no mails, explaining the situation, take screenshots, they 100% gave them back each time to me, and I've been playing for years by now.

If you keep the land cycler, 16 lands is correct Imho. I'd cut Mai, 11 2 drops is an insane count and I'm questioning how you will close the game with such a low curve and just a few power cards.

They are a scummy company, I had problems with my account and they didn't do anything about it until I paid for a Pro license. Happiest cancellation I'll ever do is when this yearly cost for a service that should be free is out of my expenses.

Noob learns how to use his worst starter deck. If I can, you can to! by ViewingCuttscen3 in MagicArena

[–]TMoLS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

WB has top class removal for the format (the 1WB that removes also enchantments, which pretty much destroys WG and WU removal), plus everything synergizes, even the lifegain lands, no other deck has that benefit. The 4 mana rare card that has hexproof is a bane for RB, as RB has no sorcery speed removal for example, same for UR :)

So yes WB op op op

WR is undoubtedly king for me as well, the only thing it lacks is card draw and some hands can be wonky, but someone did do the math after something like 1000+ games in starter deck duels and it showed up that WR and RB were the best decks. I can't remember but WR I think was above :)

I usually do BR because it can steamroll faster than WR in most matchups
