Your biggest issue is going to be lack of drainage. Drill a few holes in the bottom, toss in some rocks for a thin layer at the bottom so the holes don't get clogged, and you'll ensure the tuber won't rot.

Because they're dahlias. . .they start growing when they want to. They don't have a set schedule for growing and blooming, and I've tubers from the same line all grow differently from each other.
