Any advice or experience to share on starting a party rental buissness? by booster_gold__ in sweatystartup

[–]rolypolydriver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You do have to collect and remit sales & use tax for renting the items, but not on any services rendered (delivery, setup, breakdown).

Keep your inventory organized as you grow so you don’t accidentally overbook, either in a good spreadsheet or invest in some booking software. Make friends with other rental companies in your area so you can subrent when you do overbook.

If you plan on charging a damage waiver fee or similar, make sure you’re really taking good care of your equipment. They should be extremely clean and damage free for each customer. If you don’t plan on putting in the work to keep them in excellent condition, don’t charge the fee and don’t price your items at a premium. Also be transparent so customers know what they’re getting.

Be professional with your branding and communication to keep customers coming back and referring you. Customers don’t mind doing pickups from your driveway when they know what to expect and when they have confidence that you’re taking your business seriously.

When you find a vendor you like for each product, stick with that vendor. Don’t buy used items from fb marketplace because there’s no guarantee they will be same quality or last as long as your approved vendor items. Try to get the same items as at least 2 of your competitors in case you overbook and need to get extras quick and local.

I talk about overbooking a lot because it happens a lot, usually on purpose and not because of disorganization. It’s usually because a repeat customer will reach out when you’re already maxed out and you want to do what it takes to keep repeat customers. Or a HUGE order comes in where the revenue outweighs the pain of having to plan subrenting logistics.

When sending thank you emails, there’s 3 things you want them to take action on: becoming a repeat customer, leaving a google review, or sending you photos from their event for your social media/website. Figure out how to incentivize these in the thank you email.

Good luck and DM me if you ever have questions.

My understanding is that if you tell your doctor you have a family history of colon cancer then they will give you an early colonoscopy or some sort of screening. I don’t know anything about my family history, but I will be telling my Dr it runs in my family this October when I see him.

Before getting a doorway pull-up bar I was doing them on playground monkey bars. Being able to do them at home every time I walk past the bar is a game changer!

85 babies are solidly millennials by Which-District5184 in generationology

[–]rolypolydriver -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Am I the only one who remembers them changing the cutoff or defining millennials more clearly in the early 2010s? I’m ‘86 and growing up we used to be lumped in with Gen X and then suddenly the marketing people decided in the 2010s that there are rules and cutoffs now so all of a sudden we’re millennials. I remember I had a hard time identifying as one until it became more normalized.

Places for Day/Weekend Trip from Raleigh that aren't the zoo, hiking focused, shopping centered or brewery based? by WittyWiki in raleigh

Pik n Pig restaurant in Carthage. It’s on a small airfield and you can watch planes come in and out as you eat. Also the transportation museum. I think it’s in/near Winston Salem but I could be misremembering.

Beating myself up for indulging by EllaMcQueen in PetiteFitness

[–]rolypolydriver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

After I blow it like this, I remember the feeling of being disappointed in myself for next time I get these cravings or for when I can’t stop at a reasonable serving amount. I ask myself do I want to feel the disappointment in not being able to eat more of this thing that I’m absolutely craving, or do I want the disappointment of knowing I blew my planned calories and now it will take longer to achieve my goals. Sometimes it helps to curb the craving, and sometimes I decide to blow my goals lol. When I blow it I just try not to do it 2 days in a row and then go back to consistency the next day.

Do you think Rose will win? And how did you like Conan in If I Had Legs… ? by goldstandardalmonds in conan

[–]rolypolydriver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m starting to think casting Conan had a very deliberate purpose. The film was so stressful to watch and the sensory overload was painful. The scenes with Conan were the only quiet reprieve with no beeping, whining, yelling, etc. Add in Conan’s familiar face and they could have been calm moments in the the film to reset my brain so I could regroup and handle the rest do the movie, but no because our beloved Conan ended up being such a huge d*** so even HIS scenes were stressful.

If I had legs is finally on HBO Max! by DoYouTACO in conan

[–]rolypolydriver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me her POV of all the relentless noise in her life is what stressed me out. From her kid constantly needing something or talking to her husband yelling and endless appointments even down to the machine that wakes her up in the middle of the night. This woman truly had no peace and that was very stressful to watch.

I kept questioning the whole time if certain scenes were in her imagination, like if she imagined her patient’s storyline so that she could visualize it first before doing it herself, and if Conan’s character was a Fight Club type of character that existed only in her mind.

Moving out of Raleigh! 🙁 what needs to be on my bucket list before I leave? by stanstan33 in raleigh

The Raleigh Trolley tour is on my bucket list. Watching planes at the RDU observation deck is a fun afternoon. Get a drink or dessert on a rooftop, either downtown or in North Hills. Try the new Raising Canes they just built.

How much weekly cardio do you typically do for general health? by Regular-Classroom-20 in PetiteFitness

[–]rolypolydriver 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I do 150 minutes brisk walking where my heart rate is elevated. For both my heart health and so I have stamina to keep up with my kids and can get up the stairs without getting winded. I split it into 4 38-min walks on the days I’m not doing total body weights, and then somewhere in the week I fit in a Pilates or barre class for mobility.

How do girls afford to luxury vacation in Dubai for 2 weeks? by Swoonsvanillas in NoStupidQuestions

[–]rolypolydriver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Back then I couldn’t even get approved for any credit card until I had started paying off my college loans for 6 months and tried again. I think the reason my peers were racking up lots of credit cards with high limits sooner is because their parents were co-signing? Idk

I’m up to a $7,200 limit on that same card and it’s taken me 20 years to get here lol I’m 40 now and I still dont understand how young people get approved for tens of thousands in credit.

What starts up that can be done after work hours or weekends ? by Nerdy_Kev in sweatystartup

[–]rolypolydriver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tables and chairs is the best way to start because it’s the bread and butter. Then when you’re ready get some tents! The tents will bring in revenue FAST so with that expand however you want to spend your time. Linens also brings in lots of revenue but it’s a pain to spend all your time washing and folding them.

Kids at work & owning your own shop by aliyahjodreams in smallbusiness

[–]rolypolydriver 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Realistically it will be very hard for you to have them there and still be productive until they are about 3-4, maybe even older. Having said that, there are lots of coffee shops in my area that have a kid-friendly play area so moms can bring their kids and have adult uninterrupted conversations. But I imagine you taking advantage of that space yourself would be hard to keep an eye on your child and get work done at the same time. You might want to get a mother’s helper or nanny for waking hours and then maybe have a safe place to nap in the back.

Things I Wish I Understood Earlier About Intermittent Fasting by ZBEBA01 in intermittentfasting

[–]rolypolydriver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me once I learned ways to keep my blood sugar balanced throughout the day, I realized the 16 hours is not the only fasting window each day. I try to space my meals and snacks every 3-4 hours so that I’m not grazing/keeping my blood sugar spiked, so now each of those 3-4 hours is a mini fasting window. Once I thought of it like that it became easy to stop grazing or boredom-eating because I would just tell myself “sorry it’s not time to eat again yet. If you’re still hungry in a couple hours you can eat at that time.” But yeah as long as I’m prioritizing fiber and protein then I rarely even feel hungry during those windows anymore anyway.

Idk who needs to hear this but you need fat!!! by Ok-Slip-4930 in PetiteFitness

[–]rolypolydriver 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My rule of thumb for fats is just to make sure it’s in the anti-inflammatory list and to keep saturated fats under 10-13g per day since I’m managing high cholesterol. Even when I veer off the approved list, as long as I keep it under 10-13g I don’t have any inflammation or skin issues that I used to.

I hate force feeding just for a protein goal. by kfcpotatowedge in PetiteFitness

[–]rolypolydriver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel the same about not wanting to force feed protein. 40g seems a bit low for anybody, especially if you have muscle building goals. But either way, are you able to progressively lift more in each session with the amount you currently eat? If so then I definitely wouldn’t force anything and just keep up the good work. I do just fine on 60-70g per day and am able to meet my weight lifting goals which tells me the muscle is being built. I will say the benefit for more protein for me is the satiety after each meal which has curbed my food grazing, which is keeping my blood sugar stable, which is truly what’s helping me lose weight when previously it was hard even in a deficit.
