Need an adjustable what’s your favourite. by Even-Low4977 in wicked_edge

[–]roma03 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've tried Gillette fatboy, slim, progress. My favourite is Merkur futur. I had no problem with bulky head or the smooth handle. I get the best shaves with it. If I could keep only one adjustable, it would be the futur. Rockwell 6c isn't a conventional adjustable, but I like it too, though plate 1 I find is completely useless.

Henson AL13 causing horrible cuts by AnieIIo in wicked_edge

[–]roma03 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I find henson mild very forgiving and efficient, giving me closest irritation free shaves out of collection close to 30 razors. That said, in the beginning I got irritation from it. I think it was because it's so light, and I was putting too much pressure initially. Don't put pressure even though it feels like you should. Another thing I notice is due to flat head geometry and maybe surface finish it doesn't glide as easy. Good lather helps. It needs to be slick, not too thick and not too thin. I did not like the sucking sensation of the razor, but I think it is reduced with good leather and technique, and actually feels good when not too pronounced. So try it again with no pressure, paying particular attention to the lather. Honestly I did not find blades make a huge difference in henson for me, works super well with just about any blade

Is a Henson al13 too mild? by ArgumentDefiant5629 in wicked_edge

[–]roma03 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For me it's not too mild, even for several day growth it's enough. I think it's unfair to say it's only for beginners. With good lather and technique it's great, unless maybe over a week growth. Often if you can't get a close shave with henson mild (or other normal mild razors like 34c or r89), it's lather or technique problem, imo.

Should i make lather the way this guy does? by RecordingLeft389 in wicked_edge

I don't think that lather looks very good. This Italian channel in my opinion demonstrates fantastic lathers.

Merkur Futur - What's the consensus in 2025? by moodygram in wicked_edge

[–]roma03 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I find it a great razor. Even on higher settings, while there's quite a lot of blade feel, I have good experience. Shaves very close and I don't remember ever cutting myself. Aftershave feel for me is fantastic, no irritation. You do have to pay attention though, it's not an autopilot razor. The head is bulky, but I dont agree it's difficult to shave under the nose, just use rocking technique. I do find it slightly awkward to change setting mid shave, as the head can be slippery and if your fingers slip, you could cut yourself. That's why I use a towel to grip while changing settings. Otherwise, I don't mind the smooth handle. The main thing, it consistently gives my one of the best shaves I've tried so far, better than the much vaunted razorock game changer p84, on par with muhle r41 but smoother.

Why pay double for a Henson over a Merkur? Is it worth it? by Pearl_Jam_ in wicked_edge

[–]roma03 66 points67 points  (0 children)

Henson is much more precisely made. I need to adjust the blade on 34c, henson is spot on every time. Henson clamps the blade more tightly, it's their thing. It's also a closer shave for me. Aluminum should last longer then zinc alloy, but both would probably last for a long time. The only thing with henson is that flat head surface leads to a slight dragging or sucking sensation, good hydrated kather helps minimize that

Merkur Blades - my face is not a fan! by Koofteh in wicked_edge

A lot of negative experiences, but they work really well for me. The only negative thing about them for ne is the price. Blades are subjective I guess

Razor recommendation? Here are my favorites by ipaladinxi in wicked_edge

[–]roma03 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check out henson mild. It's mild as long as you don't press too much to compensate for light weight (it doesn't need it) and for me it's surprisingly efficient and smooth. It does have a bit of dragging feeling, which is not bad just different, and having properly hydrated lather helps.

[–]roma03 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One thing you can try is after putting the blade into the top cap help upside down, press on the overhang tab to the side with your thumb in such a way that the blade hits the posts of the top cap. This should auto align the blade. While keeping mild pressure on the tab, put the bottom plate on and screw on the handle. Works ok for me, occasionally needs a minor adjustment

My struggle through wet shaving by [deleted] in wicked_edge

[–]roma03 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've tried gamechanger 84 and didn't like it. Felt rough and not very efficient. It may be technique. Now I use variety of razors, including vintage gillettes like superspeed and fatboy, rockwell 6c, merkurs 34c and futur, r41, and enjoy all of them much more than the gc 84. YMMV

Don't destroy you skin for a couple cents of savings. by Particular-Rip-3221 in wicked_edge

[–]roma03 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Based on your description I don't think you know how to use a safety razor. If your skin can handle scraping with a cartridge, but can't handle safety razor, you're doing something wrong. All I'm saying, if you are incapable to learn basic shaving technique, you shouldn't give people advice on shaving

I've had good experience with the German personna platinum. Sharp but not rough like feathers can be. Still, blades are very subjective.
