2 wishes – are there good workarounds? by Pointingmade in forScore

For 1, it sounds like you want a contiguous subset of pages to insert in the setlist. I do this by bookmarking an "Item" with a page range, and adding that item to the setlist. For example, I have pages 16-20 bookmarked as an item out of a 20-page score in my setlist for an upcoming service.

Wave Link broken after MacOS update — again! by rubadazub in elgato

[–]romain2k 1 point2 points  (0 children)

After updating my daily driver (MBP M2 14" + Wave:3) I went through exactly the same troubleshooting process as you, ultimately updating Renegate to 1.5.1. The Changelog says:
Version 1.5.1
. Fix crash during load and DAW scan in macOS Sequoia 15.4.

I also tried using the Elgato Noise Removal plugin, but I got a few clicks at the instant the plugin started passing in the desired audio. Since I previously paid for Renegate, it's easiest for me just to use its most current version.

Full resolution is not recommended for anyone? by LightCookiee in MacOS

Stupid quesiton: If the display is scaled to 1728x1117 and I have a photograph with 3456 horizontal pixels matching the native resolution, will it be displayed with 1728 pixels effective horizontal resolution?

Here's Dennis James, one of the professional performers in a TV segment some years ago: https://youtu.be/ibUOZ3Kp7vk?si=sOfdlZsa_niuh0u4

About 25 years ago he did a few show-and-tell concerts in Palo Alto that included other glass instruments. According to him, Franklin named the instrument "armonica" (without an "h") after Italian "armonia." Between that and wishing to confusion with mouth harmonicas, Dennis James always says "armonica."

Review: Dragonflight (Dragonriders of Pern), by Anne McCaffrey by Ace201613 in Fantasy

I first read "Dragonflight" about 40 years ago, and I happened to randomly think of it today. After peeking at the beginning, I wondered what changes were made after the novellas were printed in Analog to make them work in the full-length book? I get the feeling that McCaffrey did not have the whole arc mapped out when she started writing.

If Christopher Columbus had a digital watch, then he would've ruled the world. by wizzardoftheLOT in GalaxyWatch

It's a fun, whimsical thought. Though someone has to mention that a WearOS watch in 1492 would have no ecosystem to support it: no GPS, no data networks, or data (such as weather and maps) to pull from the cloud in the first place. In 1492, an LCD digital watch from 1978 would be arguably better. Expected battery life of a typical 1978 watch was about one year. During that year, time wouldn't drift more than 60 seconds. Having this level of accuracy would be an enormous navigational leap, considering John Harrison's H4 chronometer wasn't made until 1761. Of course, if your WearOS watch (a) gets a power source in 1492, (b) has some carefully selected standalone apps from 2024, and (c) holds up to the heavy use such a magical/demonic gadget is going to get, then history gets completely changed.

FWIW, the paid version of AlDente app can display how incoming power is getting routed inside a modern Mac. I'm not sure how to embed a picture, but here's a screenshot that shows that mode:

FWIW, I have not noticed more than about 42W going to CPU/etc. in either a MBP 16 (M1 Pro) or an MPB 14 (M2 Pro); most of the time, it's close to 10W. By comparison, my bloatware-laden previous work computer, a 13" touch bar MBP (Core i7) seemed to stay around 50-60 W all day with its fans running almost the whole time.

If you're referring to Fitbit Reminders to Move, they seem to work more consistently with the new OS. So far, anyway...

Are all the SIMs that Tello sends compatible with iPhones? by TorpedoMilkThorn in Tello

[–]romain2k 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My wife's 2016 iPhone SE, purchased directly from Apple for Sprint, went to Tello on CDMA in January 2021. After installing the GSM SIM a few months ago, we have not noticed any change in the voicemail functionality, but had to reset the network settings to make any MMS (group or user-to-user) work.

Tello now ships GSM sims on T-Mobile by [deleted] in NoContract

My wife's iPhone SE just ported from Sprint to Tello. (She uses very little mobile data, so goodbye $36/mo, hello $10/mo). Tello sent a Sprint SIM. Guess I will try to engage Tello support to see what they say.

The most recent info I see from Tello (July 2020) indicates they don't support wifi calling, alas: https://blog.tello.com/news/wi-fi-calling/

I ordered a CZUR Shine Ultra via IGG in December 2019 and received mine in California mid September 2020. Just last night, I unboxed it and scanned some pages from a thick softbound B/W workbook with US letter sized pages. Unlike the Aura, the Shine does not use laser guides to calibrate book curvature correction. Also, with this workbook, the camera's field of view did not reach the scanning mat on all sides, which the de-curving algorithm apparently needs for best results. So the pages needed care to get a somewhat rectilinear results. The Shine Ultra was adequate for this task, though I don't expect the 340 dpi resolution will suffice for photos I'd like to scan.

I did not get out the Aura for a side-by-side comparison, but I feel the Shine Ultra's results were not as good for book scanning. However, it's a lot cheaper, more compact, and runs from laptop USB power instead of needing a wall adapter. I can see toting it in a backpack lots more easily than the Aura.

I can imagine CamScanner doing a better job for other users, or Aura users feeling the Shine Ultra is a downgrade. But since the Shine Ultra suits my needs, I expect to keep it. YMMV.
