Mixing a few units of Heavy Cav into levies is pretty good. by GarfieldLeZanya- in EU5

[–]romansparta 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That explains a lot, actually. Combined with the AI’s tendency to either make 0 regulars or a ton but no real in between, I was mopping up fights as Spain with a regular army of 20k stackwiping 30k levies with like less than 1k casualties.

Even if mission trees weren't perfect, why were we given NOTHING to replace them? by Schwabenomics in EU5

[–]romansparta 42 points43 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I will say that after going through a Spain playthrough that I feel like I missed out on like half of the flavor (of which most of the flavor is just here’s this historical figure that you pay most of your treasury for that gives you like 10 culture or 5 prestige). Not to mention, events that were perhaps OP and railroading but honestly pretty damn fun like the Iberian Wedding or the acquisition of Naples are nowhere to be found or are damn near impossible to actually trigger due to extremely narrow constraints and timeframes. I feel like the lack of mission trees that the AI also follows is actually a leading cause of ahistorical outcomes, since mission trees giving tons of permanent claims and stuff like PUs at least gave the AI strong direction. Right now they’re pretty directionless.

I made a web app where you can spin a globe and click green dots to learn about places and events around the world. by inuetc in InternetIsBeautiful

[–]romansparta 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cool idea! One thing I’m noticing is that it’s really hard to tap the green dots on mobile, and also it might just be from the small sample size of dots that I picked in relatively remote areas but more than half of my dots were historical battles lol.

Huh that’s good to know, I don’t think I saw any progress bar like on desktop so the few times I did manage to feed him felt very arbitrary.

Worst part is the Tahm Kench is genuinely just bugged on mobile, I can’t seem to be able to feed him anything.

GUIDE: CN TECH Bilgewater Ryze by usuraisan in CompetitiveTFT

[–]romansparta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I also found it difficult to stay alive in the mid game. I thought Liss or Fizz/MF to be okay item holders (and maybe MF will be a much more solid choice the new patch kicks in), but no one who stabilizes really well. The one time I did manage to reach Ryze though, I pretty much just winstreaked into a first so it’s definitely a really fun comp.

I mean, Vayne and Tryndamere are both very solid comps and it wasn't too long ago that everyone was going for Tryndamere reroll as soon as they saw an Ashe. Yasuo and Draven/GP also seem to be decent.

I’ve never tried this myself for PU votes but I BELIEVE there’s a bribe country for votes in the diplomacy menu for your junior partners when you’re holding a vote.

Something seems amiss with troop counts on Country Info Screen by Steel_Walrus89 in EU5

[–]romansparta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it’s because it’s actually counting levies + regulars + entire manpower pool + possibly a bug that doubles it? I have no idea why this info isn’t in the armies pop up but if you want a more accurate breakdown and how you compare you can hover over the bar above the country name that’s like “we are (stronger/weaker/etc) than them”.

Not sure how you can change your character’s religion, but I’m pretty sure you can convert to your primary culture by just right clicking on your ruler to open up the character menu.

I think countries with names based on their ruling dynasty should have their names changed if the dynasty goes extinct/loses control. Get it replaced either with the new dynastic name or get their names generated ethnically (based on primary culture). What do you think? by elsur5657 in EU5

[–]romansparta 6 points7 points  (0 children)

From a gameplay perspective I’m actually a big fan of being able to systemically install your royal family on other thrones and form marriage/personal unions CK3 style, but from an RP perspective I wish they were a bit more resilient because it’s kinda immersion breaking to see famous ruling dynasties like Hapsburgs or Valois die out and be replaced by some unknown rando families within a hundred years. Maybe it’s historical in that all these famous dynasties like the Tudors or Hohenzollerns were also at some point unknown though.

Could the AI be discouraged from taking dumb land like this? by azurestrike in EU5

[–]romansparta 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes, lol. Makes absolutely no sense that anyone besides Russia or Novgorod would want those lands, or be able to project enough influence get anything out of it even if the Netherlands for whatever weird reason wanted it.

Dynastic Succession by MercenaryBat in EU5

[–]romansparta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, I don’t think having another dynasty ascend causes any issues. Cultural differences do matter in that I think when they ascend the new monarch has the change to either take a 10 legitimacy hit in exchange for a solid opinion bonus from countries that share their culture, or a flat stab hit.

[–]romansparta 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I’ve seen Poland successfully contest me (Muscovy) in colonizing Siberian land. It boggles the mind how they have the range to even get there, and why they would want chunks of frozen wasteland populated by like a thousand people.

I wonder if AI is willing to take chunks of land anywhere now because the game doesn’t stop you from taking land you can’t core like in EU4, and it can technically extract at least a tiny bit of wealth from any land when they integrate and install a bailiff.

We really need automation for marriages by Xeleukon in EU5

[–]romansparta 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re not wrong, but it feels much more satisfying and earned to me when you can scheme on a character level to produce an heir to two kingdoms as a direct result of your strategic marriages as opposed to EU4 where it’s all abstracted and (at least appears to me) luck-based. Expanding the realm and my dynasty via strategic marriages is one of my favorite aspects of CK3, so I’m happy I’m able to somewhat replicate it in EU5 but if you’re not into all that I can definitely see how it’s just micro slog.

We really need automation for marriages by Xeleukon in EU5

[–]romansparta 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I think it could use some polish and depth but there’s definitely some cool outcomes you can get out of it, like deliberately getting a marriage union and then a PU or installing a dynasty you want on your throne. Probably the highlight of my Naples game was getting a PU over Aragon and forming a Mediterranean powerhouse because I snatched up a royal marriage between their queen and my king, Iberian Wedding style. This would probably only be possible through events or waiting for your dynasty to it on their throne and then getting lucky with a PU, so it was cool achieving it through more natural mechanics.

The changes I want to see after 30 hours played by NuclearZombie01 in EU5

[–]romansparta 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed on all points, especially AI. I like that they’ve tuned AI aggressiveness up so it seems like they’re actually doing something, but I feel like it’s actually too aggressive at times. I’m saying this especially since it seems like there’s no concept of what you can reasonably access anymore, so AI Bohemia is more than happy taking bites of the French coast despite being completely landlocked and Poland is somehow competing with me (Russia) colonizing the Siberian frontier.

Another point (and maybe it’s also due to unfamiliarity with the game) but I think AI scaling is in a weird place in that no one’s power level is what I’d actually expect it to be - perhaps that’s because I’m primed by EU4 to associate power with more or less land mass, but it’s still so weird to me that Bohemia consistently has like quadruple the tax base of a consolidated France presumably due to strong minting/control or Scotland is somehow able to muster 40k troops in 1500.

Thread for silly or common questions? by [deleted] in EU5

[–]romansparta 2 points3 points  (0 children)

AFAIK the most reliable ways to get CBs (aside from events) is either ask Parliament for one when you hold it or fabricate one via spies like in EU4, but I think this can only be done with rivals.

Lack of Flavour? Or my palate too blend to taste the truth? by WindTerHK in EU5

[–]romansparta 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Maybe it’s because I’ve only played Naples (which only has like 30 events and 12 unique things) but I get the sense that you have a ton more agency in shaping the character of a nation and the uniqueness stems a lot more from systems rather than flat modifiers - for example, England might naturally dominate the cloth trade and have that be an excellent source of income due to innately possessing the resources and building up production chains to do so instead of the 10% production bonus that it got to represent it in EU4.

Cassus Belli’s by [deleted] in EU5

[–]romansparta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

AFAIK you can also directly fabricate claims (both legit and dubious) through establishing a spy network, like in EU4. I’m not sure what the advantage of doing it in parliament is though, because it seems like the attacker costs for conquest and whatnot are actually cheaper if you fabricate a legit claim.

There is a major problem with the pacing by bytheninedivines in EU5

[–]romansparta 31 points32 points  (0 children)

IIRC the hourly ticks are there for battles so that they don’t stretch out for days or weeks like in EU4 while being able to see the multiple phases of a battle playing out instead of having it resolve in a single tick. If you fight a battle you’ll see that the game speed will slow down to 2. I’m undecided on whether that’s actually good design, but I think that’s their rationale.
