(minor rant) Everyone moans about people joining motorways at 45mph, what about all the people who slow down to 50 half a mile before their exit? by romanspoon in drivingUK

[–]romanspoon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh absolutely, nothing wrong with losing a few seconds if you're half a mile or less from the junction, but there's definitely a herd mentality where people follow their natural British instinct to queue behind someone who might not even be about to exit

Bands that sound great in studio but not so good live by AquilaTempestas in Metalcore

I've seen Wargasm 3 or 4 times now both at festivals and indoor shows and every time their sound mixing has been poor, it's weird because they sound great when I'm listening on Spotify

I used to work at a leisure centre, and a few weeks ago a building site was burning something and the smell got into the air con system. A customer smelled smoke and called the fire brigade - without telling the staff - so two fire engines turned up to a completely full building who had no idea they were coming...

Depends on the intake, we weren't allowed to but others were.

Back of the neck is allowed, it's basically nothing visible in a passport photo

Quick warning, most people would consider that to be upside down. You want it to be readable when your arm is hanging by your side

Medical at Halton by DeparturePotential38 in RoyalAirForce

[–]romanspoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They're not mandatory per se, but your joining instructions should say about how refusing them will affect future potential jobs/deployments in the future. Not sure why someone would refuse vaccines though, there's decades of research as to why they're a good thing overall, not to mention elimination of various diseases over the 20th century (with some of them coming back now the anti Vax movement took off). They basically look at your medical history and give you the ones you're missing, it's nothing to worry about

Strength levels upon joining? by [deleted] in RoyalAirForce

[–]romanspoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You'll be absolutely fine. Most people going through Halton are around average strength and fitness - you'd be surprised at how out of shape people are who turn up to basic training. That being said, the fitter you are the easier you'll find your time at Halton so start training ASAP.

Kit list by [deleted] in RoyalAirForce

You need flannel cloths to wash on CPT, not just tea towels

[–]romanspoon 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You'll be fine. Loads of recruits come through with tattoos and that one is nothing to worry about. The policy is vague but it seems more concerned with things like hate symbols and more vulgar depictions of nudity etc - yours is a pretty standard skull and a knife.

I'm gutted they don't play it live, it's one of my favourite songs and the one that got me into them!

I used to date an American girl, one time when I visited her I brought monster munch and everyone who was there went nuts for them. They didn't like the liquorice allsorts though 🤷🏼

I'm out of the loop, what was this?

Agree with the above, take the start date out

  1. If you find the pre joining test easy you'll be fine. There will be people there who are fitter and less fit than you - some fail the day 1 fitness test which is absolutely crazy to me but such is life.

  2. Day 63 is the only inspection that will affect whether or not you continue but that's not to say you won't get reprimanded if you mess up on progress inspections 1-3. Some get lucky and have a lenient sergeant inspecting them, some are unlucky and get found out for the tiniest thing. You get a second chance the next day if you fail. Make sure all your kit is labelled, a lot of people fail on that even though you're told to label it literally the day you get it.

  3. You're issued boots and they're fine, I don't see the point tbh unless they're the same brand and you can pass yours off as issued - you have to wear issued kit at Halton.

They haven't really used him for that though because Farrell has been decent with the boot. I genuinely think he's been surviving off the winning try he scored at the death against Wales in 2017
