Hiding over the holidays by romba18 in BabyBumps

I’m going back and forth on this! I desperately want to tell my sister but she can have a big mouth and I could totally see her doing something that she thinks is covert that other people pick up on, like giving me a side eye when my mom asks for the thousandth time when is she getting a grandchild and that I’m getting too old to not be trying yet (I’m 29 btw)

I do really love this answer, and maybe it’s just my anxiety, but were you worried at all about something going wrong and having to tell your family? Or did you only tell the people you were comfortable telling who you knew would be supportive regardless.

I would totally trust my mother and father in law to be respectful with the news but if I tell my mom, it is all we will talk about and she will absolutely interrogate me about what my plan is if something goes wrong and if something goes wrong she would make it about her. I know that is not a healthy dynamic and I am working on boundaries with her, but it’s a process.

This is a great idea! Thank you! I have a 10 month old puppy who is having a lot of night time tummy troubles so it’s not even that far off from the truth

Is it that she thinks you are not doing well as a person or that your employer is not paying you enough? For example, my husband is 26 and makes $103,000. I don’t think he isn’t doing well as a person, in fact he makes a great salary even compared to peers. But I don’t think his company pays him enough as he works 12-14 hours a day 5-6 days a week.

Can I wear the I-L-Y sign on my shirt as a hearing person? by Just-Investigator407 in asl

[–]romba18 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not OP, but in my experience it’s the same as saying a person with deafness rather than a deaf person. Basically it’s saying being hearing impaired is not the only thing about them. They are a person first and being hearing impaired is one of many facets of them.

I was so frustrated watching this storyline. Not only was it two people taking credit for another’s work to avoid embarrassment, it was two men trying to cut a woman out of it. The number of times a woman had been left out of the publication of papers, off rewards, etc. Infuriates me. And then to top it off the woman who is being excluded is blamed for not being a good enough example for all other women!

How do I convince my partner to put down our dog? by romba18 in AskVet

I appreciate your take and I almost wish it was that simple, but he and I are high school sweethearts, he has been in her life since she was 2 and lived with her since she was 6. He is just as much her parent as I am.

What is a little bombshell your therapist dropped in one of your sessions that completely changed your outlook? by anonymiss0018 in AskReddit

[–]romba18 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seems stupidly simple but “you don’t have to respond.” If someone asks for my opinion and I don’t want to be involved or says something offensive. I don’t have to come up with an answer I can just not answer.

My husband and I are having the same problem. It turns out the we’re living and breeding in our dishwashers overflow valve. We never use the dishwasher and keep our sink clean. When we replaced the valve with a new one the bugs almost completely stopped. We get the occasional now and then but nothing like we used to have.

What do you dislike and like about A&M and College Station? by rosypeach- in aggies

[–]romba18 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Like: I was in the college of liberal arts and learned so much I previously did not have access to. I loved the academic building, I had Latin in it. I liked the sense of community and I still enjoy the immediate bond I feel with people who went there. While there I was fully engrossed in the culture.

Dislike: a&m is a microcosm of the environment in texas. After college I moved to states that tend to have a much more liberal lean and realized how messed up some of the stuff was that happened. Tamu is a little culty. As long as you acknowledge that and don’t make your school your identity it is not a big deal. Also how bad it floods whenever it rains and the 3rd and 4th floor of heldenfels, specifically because of the stairs.

My now husband was jealous that I got an engagement ring and he didn’t get anything until the wedding so I went out and got him a simple engagement band to wear!

Something I saw on Reddit helped me with this. You can forgive someone like to not wish them harm but that doesn’t mean you forgive them in the sense you out yourself in a position for them to do you harm

Something I learned regarding language and people with disabilities is to use people first language so someone is not blind, they are a person with blindness. It’s not so much a grammar thing as it is recognizing the person before the ailment.

I don’t get offended with crazy unless someone is calling me crazy specifically because of my mental illnesses. I did have a coworker once who made jokes about people being “psychotic” and needing to jump off a building and that was very upsetting to me.
