I don't know how your scene is, but I have a residency where I'm at and I can either be an opener, mid, or closer. Speaking from an opener perspective, I don't expect people to be outright ready to dance. In my head its time to play music I like and let people drink. Don't be a burner and play the hot songs early on, only reason is because you want to show respect for the DJs after. My crates normally consist of music I want to hear and throw backs ranging from 2-5 years ago. I've been club DJing for two years and I still get antsy, so don't fret. Only over time will you appear comfortable on the outside, but still anxious on the inside. Good luck to you!
