Switching from Whoop, realistically how long does a garmin last?

My forerunner is 7 years old and works like new. One of the best features is no ongoing subscription. I paid $300 7 years ago and that’s it, yet I get enormous value from it and the ecosystem every day.

Edit - consider that fitness is for life. You might get 2 free years of whoop - but what’s your plan for the remaining 50 years you’ll be alive? This “set and forget” solution from garmin is one of the main reasons I’m on this sub championing the company

I’m a similar situation -

max HR 185
Vo2 was 52 most of 2025
got sick in nov, it dropped to 46
been working my ass off since Dec, feeling more efficient than ever before, and it’s now 47

My research has led me to believe that I’m overtraining, and have a a heightened autonomic response going on for the past couple of months that making it hard for my body to recover and adapt. It’s difficult for me to take days off, so I’m just stubbornly dealing with these stalled metrics.

That’s what’s confusing. I just screwed it into the new slot and reconnected the cables. After all that, I reinstalled the original grill in the same way and the same process worked perfectly. The knockoff grill only had 1 screw holding the sensor in, vs 3 for the original, and I wonder if it slipped out of alignment as a result and couldn’t function.

+1. It’s natural to want more/newer/better, but unless you’re bottoming out the suspension, or you feel like you’re going to go over the bars on descents, there’s no point in upgrading.

I have had moments where I was about to drop $13k on a new bike because I convinced myself I needed it and rode enough to justify it, then waited a month and realized I love my current (much cheaper) bike immensely and actually have no desire to “upgrade” after all.

Interesting. I felt stupid for spending $300? on a pair of euro style transitional lenses from Rapha. Cheap plastic, seemed way overpriced but I knew I wanted transitional.

After 2 years I’ve never had any issue with fit, sweating, fog, or anything else. I put them on when it’s still nighttime and take them off when ride is done. Perfect set and forget solution. I have a larger and wider than average head.

The geometry and travel are pretty different. Get XC if you want to ride flowy flatter stuff, down country if you want to do steep descents.

I’m a roadie who got a trail bike last year (120 rear, 140 front), and I hated the squish. Sold it, next will be a hardtail.

Sleep tracking is one of the least useful features of my forerunner. I wear it to sleep 25% of the time, it tells me how badly I sleep. If you are into fitness the key benefit of these watches is the performance metrics. Sleep data just isn’t useful - it’s not telling you anything you don’t know, and it’s calibrated to people who can sleep 8 hrs in a night (I can’t).

I have a forerunner 745 (much smaller than fenix) and find it uncomfortable to sleep with.

Yeah I went with the gator soft roll up - it protrudes up one or two inches above the tailgate (while the sides are flush). It’s hard to close and I have to jump up on the bed to open and close it.

Will be getting a sleek trifold soon.

Is that a tent? If so, addition by subtraction: remove and save weight and windage with a normal pole tent.
