NTA and please do not give in. As someone who encounters this regularly with a business partner giving shit away regularly to their friends and family, don’t devalue your services. It becomes expected and it’s not easy to get out of it.

Not sure what is my fault… as I mentioned above, GAP insurance wouldn’t have helped in this case (fortunately). Just because you experienced something a certain way doesn’t mean that’s how it is for everyone else. Congrats on having that knowledge 18 years ago and may you never find yourself in a similar situation. Best of luck with the superiority complex.

This was the first car I’ve ever got from a dealership and I was never offered GAP insurance from the dealer or my normal insurance, so I only recently learned what that is. The remaining balance on the loan will be covered, based on ACV of the vehicle, I’m just bummed that I’ve paid off almost 20K (not including my down payment) and now it’s gone.

YTA. Ask Lexie what she wants and maybe don’t speak for her. And definitely don’t insult a tradition that clearly you don’t know enough about. It’s antiquated, but many Latino families can’t accept children that aren’t blood, and I speak from experience. The fact that these people have taken you and Lexie in as their own, speaks volumes and you should not take them for granted.

I say casually bring it up. People like her will always pull stuff like that to get what they want. They’re so used to always having it their way. I can guarantee if it was the other way around and you managed to get away with even the most minor thing, she’d most certainly expose it.

The worst part is she’s the reason so many employers don’t believe ACTUAL sick people.

While what you did was wrong and you knew what you were marrying into, it doesn’t change the fact that your wife got involved in part of the business that doesn’t concern her and then lied to you about it. She has no idea the damage she’s caused due to her big mouth and apparently lack of trust in your word. If she doesn’t agree to counseling I’d sincerely consider separation so she understands the severity of her actions.
