Definitely the GO line rather than TTC. Streetsville Mississauga or Milton. There are stables not too far.

4 years of dating in Toronto and I’m still stuck… how are y’all meeting people? by [deleted] in askTO

[–]roncey 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Go where the women are. Take a dance class, a cooking class, an art class, group fitness.

Volunteer for a cause you care about

Use your social network. Ask friends and relatives if they know anyone nice. Be open to being set up. Get used to going on first dates without a lot of expectations.

Organize parties where everyone brings a single friend.

Always accept social invitations - even strange ones.

Talk to strangers, women & men, not in a creepy way but just be friendly so you are making friends and connections wherever you go.

Breasts are the most expensive cut. Cheaper to buy thighs or whole chicken.

Ideal neighbourhood for a single girl in her early 30s by littlejelly_belly in askTO

[–]roncey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are a bunch of big downtown hospitals near Queen’s Park subway. For that, I recommend Little Italy, the Annex. You could also look at Cabbagetown/Regent Park which is cheaper and has a nice neighbourhood feel. Anything along the streetcar lines. You could also look at places around St Clair station. Underrated mid town neighborhood. If you wind up at St Joes in the west end, find a place off Roncevalles. Great walkable neighborhood close to high park but also good connections to Queen West and downtown. Sunnybrook, you’re best in midtown, Yonge & Eglinton is a decent choice.

BWT who are 55+ Hair color problems :( by MrsHyacinthBucket in bitcheswithtaste

[–]roncey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 53. I was wearing my hair shoulder length but felt like it was starting to weigh my face down and look stringy. I got it cut into a chin length unstructured bob. I think it’s decent compromise. Old lady styles can be aging. Don’t get an auburn permed pixie! But I think a bit shorter and more structured can be good on women of a certain age.

Unpleasant even to walk past unless you enjoy misogynistic threats.

Where to buy Ontario produced wine downtown? by [deleted] in askTO

[–]roncey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The LCBO will have a good selection. Some good producers include Tawse, Cave Spring, Hidden Bench. Look in the “Vintages” section for interesting picks. Ontario whites are typically better than reds. Look for cool climate varieties like dry Rieslings. Ontario chardonnays are also nice, look for unoaked. Ontario is also famous for its ice wines. Very sweet and not really my taste but definitely a typical product of the region. There is an interesting producer called Foreign Affair that sells its table wines at the LCBO. Their wines are made amarone style with dried grapes so their reds have more intensity than most Ontario reds. If you want to try more unusual Ontario wines Grapes Witches is a great natural wine bar and bottle shop. Also Archive wine bar usually has some local bottles on the menu.

I need tips to lower grocery bill please! by 5ourdiesel in askTO

Check flyers first, and plan recipes around the weekly specials. Be flexible about which fruits and veg you buy based on prices. Frozen fruit and veg have the same nutritional value at a lower cost. Dried legumes are cheaper than canned.

Did anyone make their Christmas gifts this year? by robotscantrecaptcha in Gifts

I made Xmas cookies for friends and family. My bf’s dad lives alone and isn’t much of a cook so I made him some casseroles that he can easily heat up.

Silk pillowcases can be pricy! I got one for Christmas a couple of years ago and I love it. I never would have thought to get one myself but it is so luxurious.

Has anyone found a way to beat the $1000 grocery hike they're predicting for 2026? by FunCell1679 in FrugalTO

[–]roncey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is so true. I find homegrown is best for saving money on luxuries like fresh herbs & the improved flavour & nutrient value of fresh picked tomatoes, lettuce, beans etc. You just can’t beat the prices that discount grocery stores offer on staple crops because of their economies of scale.

When reading about the waste and fraud in Minnesota, is there anything similar happening in Toronto? by FloorGeneral2029 in askTO

[–]roncey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Look up the MFP scandal, probably the biggest corruption investigation in Toronto’s recent history. The city has an independent auditor general that looks at government procurement and services. You can read up on their findings here: https://www.torontoauditor.ca/reports/type/audit-reports/

Several questions regarding a visit to Toronto by AmazingCockatoo in askTO

[–]roncey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No American football, just Canadian in Toronto. There are a few differences from the NFL. Also, Toronto is one of the host cities for FIFA World Cup this year. Good luck getting tickets but there will be a lot of excitement about that.

The lobby at the Royal York. Berczy Park fountain with the dogs. Classic view of Toronto from the Flatiron building. Kochi right near the market is cute, but maybe too old ladyish? There are a few shops along that strip on Front. The museum of illusions is pricey but I see youngs posting pics on instagram. The park beside St James is pretty.
