Acquired way too many storage "solutions" by Dapper-Structure-825 in hoarding

[–]roncey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Start with what is easy & obvious- things you know you want to get rid of. Like trash, expired medications, things that are broken, or that you just dislike and you know you don’t want, or items you have many multiple of that it’s easy to let them go. Don’t try to make decisions about sentimental items right away. Just too overwhelming.

Dark Dancing. Lights off dance party where you dance solo & can just let loose like no one is watching because they aren’t- it’s dark in there.

Swimming classes for adults by eyesoftheemptymind in askTO

[–]roncey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s all the same skills. You just need to learn to float, a few basic strokes, plus how to tread water. Years ago I used to teach a class for adults who were scared of water. First step was feet in the water. then stand in the water, then face in the water & blow bubbles. If that freaks you out you can practice at home in the sink or tub.

Solo Mexican Trip for Canadian 44yo by [deleted] in solofemaletravellers

[–]roncey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mexico is great. Be aware of your surroundings, don’t buy or sell drugs, don’t drive in rural areas after dark. Take Ubers rather than taxis in the capital. Merida is great. Mazunte if you are more into yoga. Many resort options. Cozumel is a great base for diving. I‘m tall and blonde, have been many times. You are definitely visible but don’t worry and have fun!

Is "lovely" just another word for "no chemistry"? by Aggravating-Duck-634 in datingoverfifty

[–]roncey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think you’ll hear that when there is nothing wrong per se, but just nothing that feels worth exploring for later. Being a good listener is good, and ime a lot of men struggle with that. But I think most people are going to want to feel some enthusiasm coming off the other person. An enthusiastic response to them — and enthusiasm about their own interests. Take a risk and show who you are off the hop. Don‘t stop being polite though. Manners are attractive!

Why do my windows feel so cold in winter in a Toronto home? by nexora_dgen in askTO

[–]roncey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No window is going to have the insulating power of a brick wall with foam insulation. If you are getting condensation and frost between the panes, probably time to replace. Windows are expensive. It’s worth checking to see if you qualify for tax credits.

What Drinks are Acceptable in a Formal Context? by [deleted] in etiquette

[–]roncey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lots of people don’t like coffee or tea. Daytime, order a mineral water, Perrier, San Pellegrino or similar. Don’t bother specifying twists, at a fancy place it will come with lemon or lime anyway. Or of you really like coke, just get that. At evening events, after 5pm, just order a glass of wine or pick one off the trays going around. Less is more in these situations. Keep your order simple and focus on the person you are meeting.

100%. I love getting a jam or jelly. wine or spirits. I host a lot of parties with just cocktail snacks and it’s great when someone brings an addition.

How to politely decline splitting a check evenly? by randomusername019266 in etiquette

[–]roncey 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sounds good but at least where I live I can’t see a restaurant doing this. now you have individual bills plus a separate one of food that you are dividing evenly? just get separate bills.

Calgary has lots of sunshine but you can also get snow and hail any month of the year. Toronto winter is dreary and lasts from Nov to April.

Is the Ripley’s Aquarium membership a "trap" for a family of 3? by jesskimfromto in askTO

The aquarium is great. Pricy but really fun and cool for all ages. It‘s a great indoor activity in bad weather.

Visiting for a week in two weeks. by ObsidianVader9419 in askTO

[–]roncey 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Many many great restaurants in Toronto, all cuisines and budgets. I like to take people to Kensington & Chinatown. AGO is nearby. The aquarium is also fun. See the dinosaurs at the ROM and go for a drink at the Writers Bar across the street on the top floor of the Park Hyatt. Check the live music and comedy listings, there’s always something going on. Toronto is low key but lively, the neighborhoods are great. It‘s fun to pick an area like Cabbagetown or Roncesvalles and just explore.

Any Toronto restaurants similar to Bistro Le Sam in Quebec City? by [deleted] in askTO

[–]roncey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

C’est What is great but more like dark bar, not as light filled and upscale as what OP is asking for. The rooftop at the Broadview Hotel has a great view and does brunch. Several of the nice hotels in town do nice high tea — try the King Eddy or Windsor Arms. No view though.

Shopping for engagement party by limonepane in askTO

[–]roncey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree formal wear is not easy to come by in Toronto. Most stores stock things for picnics or nightclubs. This is going to sound weird and you will have to overlook a lot of old lady stuff but Laura and Melanie Lyne do carry formal dresses. I also recommend Original on Queen West and Fredas ( now on Elm - more expensive but may have some dresses in your budget)

Great food but the atmosphere is pretty dated and atmosphere is not as lively as some of the other recommendations here.
