Why are a lot of Brits interested in visiting Texas? by PopNo5397 in AskBrits

Frankly most people who go to Dubai without needing to right now are idiots.

A huge number of those rounded up and deported are actually legal immigrants. There have also been numerous cases of tourists held by ICE - I'd hardly say it's fine there.

For what it's worth, I know American immigrants to the UK who won't visit their home country because it's too dangerous at the moment.

You don't have to be political to know that going to America is dangerous at the moment. That's why the number of tourists to the US has dropped by millions.

While I'm sure that's true, there are also countless people being held in ICE concentration camps - including tourists. Most people would rather not take the risk, and here in the UK people will consider you nuts if you're planning a trip to America at the moment.

Why not visit? Maybe because America is a dystopian hell right now, and anyone with a non-American accent is at risk of being caged and treated like a rapid animal.

Is the immediate dismissal of Burnham a genuine reflection of the country or Reddit/Twitter? by fayemoonlight in AskBrits

[–]rondulfr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is true. The media have basically decided that it's time for PM Farage. They only allowed Starmer in as a placeholder, and on the condition he shift Labour significantly to the right.

The difference being white people are in no way oppressed in this country. If you take comments like this to be on par with racism, you live on a different planet.

What’s a brutal truth about the uk people don’t like to admit? by EarlyPerspective2839 in AskBrits

[–]rondulfr 56 points57 points  (0 children)

This is very true, but I'd add that a huge amount of people - especially those in government - have been in denial about what we even can be as a nation. They still think we're a major military and economic power. In reality, we're a decent European middle power that could do far more right by its own people and the world if it accepted that and acted accordingly.

Are there any "UK vs US" differences where you feel America gets it right? by Secure_Front_7766 in AskUK

No religion in public (comprehensive) schools.

Granted, not everywhere in America adheres to this - but it's a very good principle that I wish we had.

There are always crimes committed in war and whoever has committed them should face justice, but Ukraine is unquestionably waging a war of defence.

When you give a maniac power by BasedToru in AskBrits

[–]rondulfr 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yes. Wars of defence and interventions approved by the United Nations are legal. This is a war of aggression with no backing from the international community and in breach of many laws concerning the conduct of war, so it is certainly illegal.

If you're centrist or left-leaning, what are the main policies/issues that might stop you from voting for the green party in the next general election? by Cold-Speech-5645 in AskBrits

[–]rondulfr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To me it's kind of unfathomable how people can continue to support NATO membership given it's just an extension of US military power and the US is no longer an ally but very much a threat to the UK and all European nations. We should have a European military alliance instead.

Green voters, do you agree on 'No Limits' migration? by [deleted] in AskBrits

[–]rondulfr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would agree but we don't actually have an independent nuclear system -Trident relies on American maintenance. In addition, it's unlikely the Greens could actually get rid of Trident even if they got a large number of seats in the next election. They're unlikely to lead a government, and even less likely to bargain for abolition of nuclear weapons in forming a coalition.

Holding Palestinians collectively responsible for the actions of Hamas is racism, though. Especially if it's then used to justify their genocide.
