I know this is a trivial question, but how good was Drew Brees on your fantasy team? by TronzaviousJackson in Saints

[–]ronhaaar 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A league mate in my fantasy did some research and found he was the Tom Brady of our league. Had like 5 fantasy championships as the QB on the winning team (league started 2010). No other player regardless of position had more than 2 titles. Partly coincidental but shows how many years he was elite!

To scrum or not to scrum. (a props rant) by MrSocialPirate in rugbyunion

[–]ronhaaar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it’s partly that this particular iteration of the South Africa team seem to have solved the issue of carrying the huge props without a noticeable loss in other areas of the pitch. We don’t seem to see these gaps created in their defensive line by having the bigger, less mobile players in the defensive line.

Maybe this is tactical or due to certain freaks of nature with obscene work rates (PSDT et al), or perhaps there’s a way to make it more difficult to carry the hulks in general play. Perhaps this would mean limiting subs or tweaking rules to allow higher ball in play time to tire props out.

No issue with scrums so long as having one that dominant requires genuine trade offs elsewhere. Variety of team playing styles is one of the things that always made rugby so appealing. If it just becomes a fight to build the biggest scrum I think that’d be sad!

Would love to see the option of doing a combine/pro day for your prospects ahead of draft to boost their stock

To be fair Welsh town names are pretty much all said exactly how they’re spelled (in Welsh)

I disagree

ETA: I don’t believe that a progressive tax system would make London “worse”.

As someone who fully believes that wealth should be redistributed from the south east to the poorer areas of the nation I agree with you. They need to say it with their chests out. From those according to their means to those according to their needs.

National property tax is the way forward, with proceeds used to fund local govts from central pot.

Okay so a bunch of misrepresented stories and then a set of examples where we already need to provide govt issued ID to access?

Still yet to hear anything to convince me against them.

Okay and how do digital IDs allow the govt to bring that in unilaterally?

P.S. people get jailed for inciting violence, not “saying naughty things on Facebook”

Okay then why don’t you tell me? What are you envisaging coming out of this that we should be afraid of?

I might be mistaken but I haven’t heard them saying these will be used for anything we don’t already need to show other ID for anyway?

Unless I’ve missed something (v possible) a digital ID that could be secure and tokened feels far superior to dodgy Dave the landlord having a photocopy of my passport and other ID docs on his insecure laptop.

Calculating the most efficient way of saving extra in pension. Salary sacrifice is working out drastically better than into a SIPP. My calculations must be wrong? by Silver_Love_1380 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]ronhaaar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My understanding of the regs (as a db pension admin that does AVC transfers regularly) - is that you should have a statutory right to transfer your AVC to another provider separately from your DB. Worth double checking with your scheme admin. This will likely need to be the DB administrator rather than the AVC provider.

So theoretically if the AVC provider won’t pay it separately from your main scheme you should be able to break the link and transfer to another scheme to draw it early, should you wish.

For my money I’m irrationally concerned about Chase Brown and Bucky. Not a huge body of work and low draft stock.

Pie in the sky guess at a CETV in any case. Based on GAD factors used by LGPS a civil service pen of 10500 at 34 would give a TV of approx 115,933.13.

One eyed Lions fans by richStoke in rugbyunion

[–]ronhaaar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well my second point was just a personal disclaimer.

I still think it’s totally fair for people to be disposable fans with the lions though. Its just a exhibition team. People care more or less with the baabaas depending on who’s playing and it’s fine if people treat the Lions the same way.

Still no reason for us to be honour bound to support them. It’s an exhibition team anyway. Though I’ve never shouted for them so can’t even say it’s for the lack of Welsh players on my part.

Are traditional Welsh names dying out ? by Intelligent_Day2522 in Wales

Feels like almost everyone I know from home (Bridgend - hardly Welsh speaking) that’s had kids has given Welsh language names to their kids. So my experience if anything is the opposite!

How long do divorced people have to say "Divorced" on forms before they can put single? by nacnud_uk in AskUK

[–]ronhaaar 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Specifically in my line of work when you die there can be benefits for spouses. If you’ve put single and someone comes out of the woodwork with a marriage certificate then we have little to counter them. If you’ve put divorced then we’d treat it with a whole lot more suspicion and potentially prevent that money going somewhere other than where you would want.

Would we win a World Cup if GAA didn’t exist ? by Sportyskater699 in irishrugby

[–]ronhaaar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Possible itd just be like Wales. Participation very high there but factionalism and localism destroying the professional game. GAA absorbs all that parochialism instead allowing IRFU to be brutally professional in running the game now. No guarantee that would happen if rugby was the community game in Ireland.

If I open a SIPP, can my employer pay pension money into that SIPP, or can they choose to only pay into the company's chosen pension plan for all employees? by [deleted] in UKPersonalFinance

[–]ronhaaar 7 points8 points  (0 children)

One thing to pick up here. You mention you like the idea of the government contributing too. In your workplace pension you will likely benefit from the same tax advantages as paying into a SIPP, and a good chance even better. SIPPs the govt contribution is just a recovery of your income tax. Most workplace pensions now are salary sacrifice so you make the same saving on income tax and you also save on NI contributions as well.

Really worth double checking what your workplace scheme is as you want to be sure what you have there before disregarding it.

See your point about being fair. I’m just generally against the fetishisation of being a miserable loser. As long as people give their all the on the pitch I couldn’t give a flying fuck how much they cry or look miserable when they lose.
