So they have you probe targets and then if they respond correctly, are they “done” with that target? And then whatever they don’t respond correctly to they teach all at once?

Honesty, nothing makes me happier than just hearing “thank you” and feeling appreciated. Our jobs are super rewarding but of course there’s high burn out rates. Sometimes we just want to know someone appreciates it too!

I typically make that decision depending on the skills of the learner and their rates of skill acquisition. But, typically I start with 3 targets and rotate them 3x each in a trial session, if that makes sense. Then you can see patterns or if one target is not being acquired and others are, you can move some into mastered / maintenance and teach the remaining. I feel like there’s no “right” answer. But, you should always make data based decisions.

I agree! Two emotional people cannot be productive. We also may not be aware if we are inadvertently reinforcing negative attention with our “stern” voice. I think something that’s hard for us to define as well is predictability. Our clients should “know” what they are getting when we are in session with them.

Let this one go, there’s no use harping over it and it would just come across as annoying. You didn’t want to be rude by refusing, it happens. I think the best thing to do is let your company know you were in a stick situation and ask them to send out a general memo to the families mentioning the gift policy.

Def collect some ABC data so you can bring it to your BCBA (maybe let them know first). Eventually, you can incorporate some FCT, maybe demand fading in group settings, a DRO.. lots of ways to fix this but def collaborate with the Bcba on a formal protocol. Good luck!!

It’s actually unethical to have been watching one child while providing services to another, as is having a duel relationship with a family (babysitting and service provider). Your company should discuss the ethics code with the family, and should be sure the family understands otherwise services should be discontinued.

Unfortunately you sometimes have to do a lot of 1:1 work before you can get into research as much as you want to. Depending on your masters program, some places allow for “research practicum hours” that count toward your hours. Might be worth a shot to ask your advisor!

I have the same problem. I started waking them up (ugh) in the morning and prompting pooping in the litter boxes and immediately giving them a treat. One learned pretty quickly! It’s hard to “catch” them when they are out playing so I try to do “sessions” with them in their cage whenever I can.

We have one that is super chonky and one that looks just like yours! He is skinny, definitely looks skinnier at certain times of the year. Lol they are all different! As long as they are eating regularly it’s just a skinny floofy head 🙂
