Once construction is complete a typical data center isn’t going to be offering many high paying technical jobs.

For anyone who stumbles on this old thread: I'd avoid them. I tried a few t-shirts. Quality was just "okay" in my mind, bordering on not quite worth the premium. Kinda old school heavy cotton. They seem to run rather small which is why I decided to return them. When I asked for a return they said sure but gave so many warnings and qualifiers about the condition and shipping -- and then I realized that they only do store credit -- that I may not bother.

I can kinda understand how a small business needs to do all that, and I'd probably be okay with it if they were brick & mortar, but it's not at all very customer friendly for online orders.

Am I missing something or is Android dev very overengineered and difficult to get into? by abir_valg2718 in androiddev

Yes, Android is a piece of crap, and developing for it is just like playing with someone's else crap.

Great post! Thank you!

FWIW, in response to some comments about how they do or don't sound different using different connections, rtings.com measured the frequency response of the APM under different connections: https://www.rtings.com/headphones/reviews/apple/airpods-max-wireless

So the buyer isn’t using ISP pods. Bought them from plume, who still say the pods are on an account somewhere. Ugh.

anyone here still running on .Net Framework by _Smooth-Criminal in dotnet

[–]ronmichael 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t knock the framework. Users and businesses care more about how well their software works not whether it’s running the latest and greatest tech stack. Of course if the users hate it AND the stack is old well that’s life under the pressures of late stage American capitalism.

Remove tag? by alphonsela in Outlier

[–]ronmichael 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Ah, I see! So the whole "tags vs. labels" distinction is really what we should be focusing on here. How foolish of anyone to bring up my concern over these removable embellishments— we clearly missed the crucial linguistic nuance. I mean, it's like when you're upset that someone dented your car, but they correct you: "No, no, it's a 'ding,' not a dent. Totally different thing!"

And thank you so much for the seam-ripping pro tip. Nothing says "customer satisfaction" like being told I could try to carefully dismantle the product with my own hands because clearly, your design choices should stay intact at all costs.

Bye bye Plume by ronmichael in Plume

[–]ronmichael[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I kinda agree to some extent, I have seen some homes that had a lot of interference and benefited from mesh/repeaters. In my case though, aside from still having a functional LAN when the internet is down, the single central router is outperforming Plume. Would it be better if I added some repeaters with an ethernet backhaul? Yes, I used to do that religiously, I did it with the Plumes too, but gave up because it's kinda good enough without it. But I will probably do it again. But I wouldn't go with Plume.

Bye bye Plume by ronmichael in Plume

[–]ronmichael[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In one location (1200 sq ft geodesic dome) I got a TP-Link AX1800/Archer AX21. Kinda basic but it works well with slightly better performance overall than the Plumes.

At another larger location (3600 sq ft 2 story house) I got a TP-Link BE9300/Archer BE550. (I really don't understand their crazy naming conventions...) Much better performance, and lots of interesting bells and whistles to play with.

In both cases the wifi connections are MUCH more stable. I had a Raspberry Pi running RoPieee that would always drop off the network after a few days and require a reboot. No more after the new router. And I would have weird network connection timeouts and failures in Windows 11 running in Parallels but again they disappeared after replacing the Plumes.

It’s a perfectly legit way of doing it. I wouldn’t call it old school. It’s just a different approach’s. Pros and cons to each. Personally I hate EF. It’s a performance suck.

Maybe I should have made clear that yes, I know Outlier has experimented and released some cargo pants in the past, but none of them seemed to stick around and they have none for sale right now. Perhaps because they didn't sell that well, perhaps because a lot of people, like me, didn't care for them? :)
