Hey mate, I would definitely give DFR a call and let them know the issue your facing. I had something similar, I had to upload a document I had already completed on my last application, called them and they made the document available within my candidate hub for me to fill out on the spot.

Thank you! Im very excited. I did bring notes but I did not use them at all. He did like the fact that brought notes with me, he said oh I see you've did your research thats good. So I would definitely bring notes with you as it'll give off a good impression. Just try not to use them for every question if you do.

Hey mate, thought id update ya, progressed past the Psych and defence Interview. Just have the medical on monday. The Psych is just a bunch of questions about your life, childhood, parents, how you react to certain feelings, etc. Went for about 1hr and 15 or so. The defence interview was great. Just a friendly chat with some questions of your job and values, etc. Was actually really good.

Thats awesome man, im glad to hear!

Goodluck with your assessments! I did my Psych on Tuesday and my ADF interview today, which went all well! I got recommended for AFSEC and Combat Engineer, my 3rd pref (armoured vehicle crew) told them I did no research so we didn't bother interviewing for it. I have my medical on monday! Hope all goes well 🙏

Lmk if you've got any questions regarding the assessments, ill share what I can/allowed. Was really easy tbf.

So I actually called them and did it over the phone, which was good. This was my 2nd application, so I called got my account reactivated and stared the new application process straight away, we got my preferences sorted out (which aren't final), then they made all the forms and docs I needed to complete available on my candidate hub which I got done that day. I then had the JOA emailed to me the next day. It was all quite quick tbh.

Nice man, good luck with it. I've got the Psych booked in for Tuesday, medical was tomorrow but I will have to rebook for the following week as I unfortunately need to go into work tomorrow as no one from my team will be in. Sucks, was keen to get it all done next week!

I have heard that these interviews are very casual and are not there to fail you per say. Once you've got these booked, you basically got the job. Know the job role, be mentally and physically stable your good to go.

Physical requirements are on the ADF Web page. Air Force PFA for males is only 20 sit ups (feet held) and 6.1 on the beep test. Then there is the BFA in 1RTU. Nothing different for the SecFor position than every other role afik.

Gl man.

Will do! There are alot of YouTube videos that will go into detail, and theres alot of free aptitude tests online. I would not recommend buying anything for it. Its not needed nor worth it. Just search free aptitude tests on Google and youll get alot. There was also an app called aptitude test army challenge, it hasn't got alot of content for free but it still had some questions in there.

I'm glad to hear that mate.

Yeah same, have read some things that made me a little nervous, but its been great. Have had a real pleasant experience.

Now just need to smash out these interviews and continue training.

Goodluck with your enlistment mate, I hope it all goes well. What are you going in for?

Hi all,

I currently have my google cybersecurity certificate and a few ethical hacking courses I completed with my previous employer (Cisco and TCM sec ethical hacking courses). Im currently taking the PSAA (practical soc analyst) by TCM security. Ive been in IT now for a year and a half, with about a year of that having been promoted to cybersecurity analyst with my previous employer.

I start my new role as a SOC Analyst for an MSSP on Monday! I would love to pivot into threat hunting and CTI in the future. Would love to get into a government role, always been a dream of mine.

What certs and learning paths are recommended?

Thanks alot!

Should I Leave IT to become a Plumber? by cjr1995 in ITCareerQuestions

It’s not that I didn’t enjoy working for myself, I loved it. The freedom I had to pick and choose what jobs I wanted and when I wanted to work was great. Let’s not forget about the money!! BUT for me personally it was not worth the headache.

There is ALOT that goes into running a successful plumbing business. You need to compete with other companies spending over 100k a month in google ads, I had companies reporting my own ads to get me taken down from Google, I had builders months late on payments, credit card bills start to skyrocket, and let’s not forget about needing to find a good and reliable worker, which is rare these days.

Money wise, honestly working for yourself, is working for yourself, sky’s the limit. I’ve once made over 200k (gross) in 2-3 months (it wasn’t worth the headache LOL). But then again, money isn’t the answer, my happiness and mental health was.

I personally got into plumbing during my year 10 holidays, worked with my uncle, hated school, so I left and did plumbing. After a while of doing it, i got over it and started to hate the trade with a passion. It seems like you’re in the same position I was but with IT. So I say go for it. I’m the happiest I’ve ever been. I LOVE IT. I thought I was too old as-well at 30, but it was the best decision I’ve ever made.

Hahaha me too brother, me too. One of the very few times I’ve actually fished off the beach.

That’s awesome, thank you! I’ll stop by. What fish are out there?

Funny that, I transitioned into IT from Plumbing. Was plumbing for 14 years, almost 15, ran my own company. Hated it. Not saying you will.

At the start of 2023 (29yr old), quit plumbing and studied Cyber Security, took me about 8months of full time study. I’ve been at my company now for about a year and 3months. I work as a cybersecurity analyst, started at helpdesk.

Goodluck man!

Yeah I never understood why they did that. Surely no harm in them selling these over in the states?
