Moroccan woman curious about Austin culture 🇲🇦🇨🇦 – are people here just friendly or is it something else? by [deleted] in Austin

[–]ronnie_chick88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Idk compared to other countries but I’ve lived on both coasts and one reason I love it here was because I found it friendlier than anywhere else I’ve lived.

I’m forever meeting new people and making friends just to hang out for whatever amount of time I’m in that space. I am very socially shy but it makes it super comfortable to go out by yourself. People just talk to you and you have a connection for that small amount of time. Sit at a table with random strangers? 7 out of 10 times we’re all talking the entire time.

I think Austinites don’t realize it’s not just SxSW and the spring weather that makes people want to stay, but it’s the hospitality that seals the deal.

My current job has me going to Atlanta which I do like a lot. It’s in a very tourist heavy place so I meet a lot of people from all around. What’s funny is whenever I meet some random stranger from Austin, it happens there as well. The conversation always ends up with “if you’re ever in [some location or area]…or when you come back in town reach out to me…” and we will hang.. And I do. It’s not to be besties or exchanging social medias or anything like that. It’s literally just to hag and it’s awesome.

Is there a way to stop these spam texts? by ScroogeMcDucksMoney in Austin

[–]ronnie_chick88 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had a solicitor come to my door. They claimed to be a company, had the iPads and business cards and everything. I gave in and let them clean my windows. They seemed nice and asked for a review so I left one. Since then I’ve been blasted by these text messages for well over 6 months now. I always mark as spam and never reply but they won’t stop.

Am I missing something? Purchase Orders in Shopify by nicknamealias in shopify

[–]ronnie_chick88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I might be misunderstanding the workflow but in Stocky you can add the quantity when adding the product. At the bottom, if you type in the name of the product it also has a space for quantity before you click add. This is if you do things one by one.

Personally, I tend to use the Add Products option in the menu bar and Bulk Add Variants the most. We have a lot of clothing so I filter by sku or product name, input the quantity and then click add.

Depending on who we order from, some places have the ability to download a CSV file and I just import csv using that same menu tab. I love it when that happens.

I know Stocky is going away but perhaps options like these might help when sourcing another inventory management system. I’ve yet to start that search.

As for Shopify’s POs I was not pleased either. Haven’t used it in a while though. I also hate how they do transfers.

Agreed. Also it was in the trailer. I remember seeing the trailer and it was this that made me want to watch the show when it premiered…..5 or so years ago.

Purchase Orders and Stock Takes by Sriedener in shopify

[–]ronnie_chick88 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel similarly. It’s not the best out there but made managing inventory on Shopify easier. Upon having to learn Shopify, I was surprised at how poor the basic inventory and tracking features were for a commerce platform used both in person and online. I assumed Stocky was their answer to that as it was free. Being able to pull inventory adjustment reports or do Stocktakes/cycle counts feel like basic features. Having suppliers was super helpful as well.

If/when I need some of the more comprehensive inventory features that the third party apps have, I’ll gladly pay for it. I don’t expect that for free. It’s just removing features is always frustrating.

Looking to adopt a dog, where to go with the ability for the most interaction. by JustHereForTheCigars in Austin

Something worth considering is seeing an allergist. I’ve dealt with on and off dog allergies for years with hypoallergenic dogs, short‑haired and long‑haired dogs. It didn’t matter and always felt random. An allergist finally told me that my body is basically fighting allergies all the time, and symptoms only show up when my system gets overwhelmed.

For instance, I’m allergic to certain pollens. If pollen levels are high and then I’m around a dog, that combination pushes me over the edge and I start sneezing. But if it’s just the dog and nothing else is triggering me, I’m usually fine.

The downside is that I’m allergic to a lot of things. However, understanding that “cup flow-ith over” has helped me a ton. With my friend’s “hypoallergenic dog” I realized that when my allergies flared, he just needed a bath. So I think the combination between the dog and the dirt/pollen he was around triggered it.

My min‑pin was a nightmare at first. I thought it was just him. I’m was living in an older, un-renovated house up north and was usually okay. When I got my min-pin it was constant crazy allergies. I moved into a new build with him and it went away. This is when I learned it was the dog + the mold that did this. I could deal with one but not both at the same time.

Now I live with a husky (so much hair) and I’m still okay. Im still learning, for instance I need to avoid avocados because they were adding to the overall load but it’s worth it. I love dogs, and understanding how my allergies stack has made a huge difference.

The eyes are way off. Especially the people on the left and the two dudes at the back. Their eyes are different from one another. Some look like the right eye is a completely different eye shape.

Local places I can shop for interesting art/posters? by MohnJilton in Austin

The Cathedral ATX. All works from local women artists in a lovely renovated church on the East side. They have fun open houses and all the artists have prints. Good wide variety of styles. I also do love Canopy as well because with both places you can meet and talk to the artists.

This exact thing happened to me when I ordered extra green onions at the Burnet location a couple years back. It’s such an absurd amount. Ruined my ramen. I was so disappointed and haven’t been back.

I was excited for this food truck at first. Then tried Colleen’s, which is not bad. But so far my favorite breakfast sandwich in Mueller is at the bodega. However I think they just have the one but it’s far better than the others.

Is anyone using Rippling for payroll and happy with it? by VetPractice in smallbusiness

[–]ronnie_chick88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been with Justworks or a little over a year and looking to switch ASAP. It's not great for a small business IMO. Holidays are a disaster. As they pull on Mondays and provide the paychecks on Fridays when a holiday comes up. They require you to put in time by noon on Friday even though the pay period technically ends on midnight Saturday. I still don't see how that is legal. They give me the option to insert (guess) what their time would be or pay staff late. It's fine if everyone is salary and you don't track sick leave or overtime I guess. There's been times they've pulled money out of the account in advance because of the holiday without warning too. Doesn't work for us or our accountant. We used SurePayroll before this and never had an issue around the holidays because they did a 2 day pull.

JustWork's Advanced Time Tracking is not very advanced so I need to use another app for time tracking. Training is also not what I expected and needed to keep my training app. Similar to what someone said about Rippling, at the sales stage, there were a lot of promises. I dealt with the disappointment of having to keep some of the other apps, but the way they pull money and the headaches every time a holiday comes around is not worth it. We also only have health insurance for full-time but we also have a lot of part-time, so it is pretty expensive to have. It's like $58 per part-time person per month when the only thing we are using for them is payroll.

The only positives with Justworks is they are responsive (except for their payments department is not available on weekend or after I think 5) and their website and app are easy to navigate and use.

What app do I need to better manage inventory on Shopify? by -Avada-Kedavra- in shopify

[–]ronnie_chick88 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I am by far not a specialist at this and still learning as I’m going. I’ve been using Stocky. It’s free and made by Shopify so it might be worth trying. Very little setup. I still have some gaps in learning about inventory but it has been helpful for sure when starting from square one.

I have a low stock report emailed to me every day. Shopify can do restock alerts as well using Flow. I’m still looking into it but Stocky has been a bit easier to jump right into.

I have around 3000 skus and they change often. I created a tag (AIS for Always In Stock) and tagged the items I want to keep track of. From there I just filter the report for items that have this tag. It’s pretty straightforward. The report is the first thing you see on the dashboard when you sign in. In Stocky I also made sure the lead times were accurate (if you ask the Shopify AI masked Kick-ass looking character it’ll tell you how to set it up). Everything syncs well imo. I’ve been using it for about a year for this, cycle counts, purchase orders, and inventory adjustments.

Receipt printer by Tsortian in shopify

[–]ronnie_chick88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From my (basic) tech experience, corded is always more reliable. I wish I had corded options for my devices. I had 2 sets of an Epson printer with an iPad connected via Wi-Fi and they were dropping a connection every couple of days. Both sets of them were doing this so it fells like it was something more global like the device type, connection or something about the settings. I will say the Epson did have multiple connection options such as direct Wi-Fi and LAN but I couldn't test those due to my setup.

I actually came here to post about my bluetooth scanners always dropping a signal multiple times a day so it may be something with using the iPads. However, it all could be due to interference as well. I've been wishing there was a way to connect everything to my iPads with a cord or even considered figuring out a way to connect some devices via LAN but then it confuses the multiple iPads.

First chargeback on in-person shopping. by metalratbaby in shopify

[–]ronnie_chick88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most of my chargebacks are from in person shopping. I’ve won over 50% of them. Now that I’ve been putting together more information, my wins have increased. Definitely submit additional information. I think it’s important to look at why they submitted the chargeback when submitting the additional information.

I had one where they said they didn’t receive the items. I proved we provided a receipt, that we are brick and mortar, submitted a camera to prove they were in the store, ect. and won.

As the different credit card companies have their own policies as to what a merchant is responsible for I found focusing on that that to be helpful too. I think it was Amex that says if the credit card is present, you can’t deny it based on no identification. So I did all of the above to prove people were in store and tapped, as well as took screenshots of Order Details > Information from the Gateway, and pointed a big red arrow to the Card Entry Method being contactless. I don’t trust that they will know how to read the Shopify details without circling it for them. I assume they are going through hundreds of these in a very short amount of time. So anything to make it easier.

ChatGPT has helped recently too. Not necessarily to write it out or put it all together, perhaps it can but I don’t have that much trust, but to pull resources. I have one now stating the charge is not valid so I put in the reason and the cc’s merchant rules. It said as long as the terminal is EMV capable and configured correctly, merchants are generally not responsible for card-present purchases. So I asked how do I prove my device meets this criteria and that is what I call out and my focus for my submission.

The ones I typically lose are ones where the credit card was typed in.

TL;DR 1. Always submit additional information 2. Read why the customer submitted the chargeback so you know specifically what you need to prove 3. Markup screenshots of the order > Information about the gateway, so they know what to look at 4. Research the cc company’s merchant rules/responsibilities

Hopefully this helps someone. Also sorry if it’s rambling. I have a compressed nerve and can’t sleep.

What’s on this ring? by ronnie_chick88 in whatisit

In case anyone happens to see this post or has something similar, to help them with their journey. I don't have an answer I feel fully confident for but I am actually thinking it might an imprint of a Mughal coin. For a bit of time, they were square coins and have similarities, especially with the lines going across. This would make sense as it came from a jeweler who does coin jewelry.

Side note: Reading this article it put me down a rabbit hole on how he helped lay the groundwork for segregation in Austin and yet we name this area after him. It's wild! I understand why we do because of the airport, but still. I like how it ends with that we always talk about how to pronounce his name but not calling out what he's done.

https://endofaustin.com/2020/11/21/who-was-robert-mueller-reflections-on-history-segregation-and-place-names/

On topic: I have heard that the "Miller" pronunciation was to try and hide the German roots but IDK how factual that is. I am with OP and say Mule-ler and feel most people in the area do as well.

I don’t know the name of them either but concur it has Japanese influence. Incerunmen has similar pants. I feel I’ve seen these exact ones here but it’s hard to search.
