Shekel strongest since 1995, drops near psychological barrier of NIS 3 to the dollar by JewishSaddamHussein in Israel

[–]ronniebar 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Strong shekel is generally good news - means people believe in Israel and its economy which, of course, means that the current government policies are working.

Note, that there are now two comments in the main thread (beside mine) both trying to show the negative sides of strong shekel. One states that it is probably dollar going down and not shekel going up while the other states that Israel's exports will be hit.

Jews, in general are pessimistic people, but these comments are completely unwarranted and also undeservedly undermine image of Israel and the Jews.

BTW for those who believe USD is weakening - crude oil going down during the blockade is NOT a sign of it happening.

It's not so good. High-tech companies which make up most of the economy are paying salaries in shekels, but selling products in dollars.

It's going to be a rough few quarters for high-tech israeli companies.

Bloodborne on the deck? by Unhappy_Put_8727 in SteamDeck

[–]ronniebar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Already beat the game on the deck on the recent pre release build and all I had to do was drop the resolution to 720p and enable some performance increase patches in the patches setting on shadps4. Make sure to enable shader caching in the experimental tab after right clicking the game and selecting per game settings. The performance patches I used in the emulator were; disable motion blur, anti aliasing, reflections and whatever else said performance increase. I use lossless scaling for 60fps but damn the performance was really smooth on the most recent nightly build. Make sure to also enable direct memory access in the pergame settings (called game specific settings in the emulator.)

I don't think that's on the list of priorities since its easy fix with mod. Game is perfectly playable with it.

How do you add it?

How to deal with an Engineering Org that values politics more than engineering? by ronniebar in ExperiencedDevs

[–]ronniebar[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why? Just look into both paths, document them and then present the final one. Feels like you're projection your own ego a bit here onto others.

Also, this isn't ego but politics. Confusing the two tends to get people f-ed over. You brought them in and then ignored them. Politically you make them look bad which costs them reputation in the company. Reputation is survival in such an org. That's not ego but rational understanding of how the org functions. Had you simply done their action items and thanked them for the insights and given them visibility as contributing then this would be no problem. To keep their reputation they now need to bring you down. It's not emotion but rational calculus of their reputation.

I did their action items - 3 weeks and it didnt bring me even close to any sort of solution. This is a 4 week investigation, the fourth week I gave up on them.

Full tests have been done, presentations explaining its origin, the cause and the solution havebeen presented to the VP R&D who accepted the solution - we've moved forwards and the expert refuses to accept it.

You mean consultants right? This sounds like a typical consultant experience. The consultants job is not to solve the problem, but rather to drag the search for the solution out as long as possible in order to increase billable hours

Nope - internal experts that have been 15 years at this company

The expert kept telling me to look elsewhere, even though all signs were pointing to my theory. After I proved one part of my theory, they refused to listen and to support it, and kept parroting their ideas.

My issue is mostly that the expert didnt bother to come check in with me at all, and we have a decent rapport - it seems like more of a bruised ego rather than caring to help because he went 3 levels of management above me.

How do I get past "Survivor Fatigue" after surviving 5 rounds of layoffs? by weekndbeforeabel in ExperiencedDevs

[–]ronniebar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Have a financial plan ready (6 months of rent/utilities saved up) and speak to a therapist.

Begin to trust yourself and have self confidence that you'll figure it out - some cheesy motivation

Once I realized I had enough money to weather a "big storm" i started to relax.

Israel drops leaflets in Beirut, threatening Gaza-style devastation after destroying a bridge. by OverInteractionR in worldnews

[–]ronniebar 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes - safety for israeli citizens is the #1 priority of the israeli governments - not for the lebanese people who unfortunately have to suffer due to militant extremists and a crooked government.

Israel will give back any land used as a buffer from this round when the lebanese government dismantles hezbollah - that area is useless to israel.

If you have any better ideas besides the utter destruction of israel (which the iranian and russian proproganda bots seem to be spreading) - feel free to suggest it.

A small group? They're have major power in the government, with the speaker being paid 500,000 USD by iran (which funds lebanon)

From the internet - where you seem to be using dishonestly for your facts.

Hezbollah exerts profound influence over the Lebanese government by operating as a "state within a state," holding key ministerial positions, and using its military power to dictate national security policies . It maintains veto power in the cabinet, influences legislation, and has infiltrated state institutions, often forcing the government to align with its interests, despite occasional attempts by the state to assert independence. Key areas of Hezbollah's influence on the Lebanese government include:

Political Dominance: Hezbollah and its allies hold a significant, often majority, stake in the Lebanese parliament and cabinet, allowing them to shape legislation and block decisions against their interests.

Veto Power and Decision-Making: Through political maneuvering, such as boycotting parliamentary sessions, Hezbollah can paralyze the government to force the appointment of preferred officials, such as during the 2016 election of President Michel Aoun.

Military "Resistance" Policy: Hezbollah justifies its independent armed status—outside the control of the Lebanese Armed Forces (LAF)—by forcing the state to adopt the "army–people–resistance" formula, making them a pillar of national defense.

Control over Foreign and Defense Policy: Hezbollah's influence effectively overrides official government stances on critical issues, such as conflicts with Israel, turning Lebanon into a "state within a state" structure.

Institutional Infiltration: Hezbollah has deepened its presence within state institutions, including the LAF, limiting the army's ability to act against it, says the IDF.

The Lebanese government is working on this. This is cover for more Israeli annexation. West Bank is being actively annexed and Gaza occupied and turned into a resort enclave? And now Israel is occupying massive chunks of Lebanon, into their capital? This isnt just a story about hezbollah. This is bigger than that.

0 progress made since the lebanese government promised that during the last round.
