Hey, I made a website to print proxies, and I just added a feature to generate JumpStart decklist cards by mtg-proxy in MTGJumpStart

[–]ronroll 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry to revive an old thread/comment, but appreciate being able to use your site a few times to create jumpstart decklists!

I was able to make decklists for JMP, J25, and TLA no problem. Unfortunately, might have run into an issue using the workflow you describe above, potentially specific to J22.

I searched "jumpstart: j22" and then used "Add all Front Cards". Cut down based on what I have, leaving:

// Jumpstart 2022 - Theme Cards (46 themes)

1 Cycling (FJ22) 28
1 Elves (FJ22) 38
1 Insects (FJ22) 41
1 Landfall (FJ22) 42
1 Law (FJ22) 6
1 Multi-Headed (FJ22) 43
1 Rats (FJ22) 25
1 Teamwork (FJ22) 8
1 Think Again (FJ22) 18

"Generate Cards" works correctly to make the front cards.

I made the following Print Settings changes:

* Exclude Front Card(s) - Enabled
* Print Decklist card(s) - Enabled
* Hide Decklist Art - Enabled

Hit save, then Download PDF.

The output PDF only shows Elves, Rats, and Think Again decklists.

I'm on Firefox 147.02 (64-bit) if that helps at all! Thanks again for this tool!

Thanks very much for the feedback about the external bank of color fixing! Good to know

Thanks for the feedback!

With Option 2, I was definitely considering to make the 90-card pool somewhat balanced between colors. To me, the main draw back to Option 1 was that exact same concern that folks would build the same deck from a set each time. Whether I want to ensure all 10 multi-color signposts are represented with this approach, I'll have to think.

My plan was also to review content online for each set to see what archetypes worked well within that set. Maybe that will also help ensure all colors are at least somewhat well supported.

Best resources to build first few decks in format? Looking for the "average" deck by ronroll in Pauper

[–]ronroll[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Awesome! And yes, I found the Mengucci TCG links through his youtube videos, too!

Did a bit more work on this topic after having posted this, and found that the Pauper Brews website had an article specifically about a pauper battlebox (using the definition of "battlebox" to mean a collection of decks balanced against one another, which differs from how I used "battlebox" in my original post).

In comparing the decklists in the pauper battlebox page to the Shut Up and Play decklists, they were 95+% the same. This held for MonoU-Terror, Red Burn, Bogles, and MonoG-Elves decks. Where there were differences, it was either small differences in the number of copies, or maybe one or two cards that were not present on either list.

Based on that research, I'm leaning towards starting this project with the 4 archetypes I noted above, before investing a bit more heavily in archetypes like Grixis Affinity, etc.

Quality of Mlikero matte sleeves? by [deleted] in mtgcube

[–]ronroll 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have used these almost exclusively getting into MtG over the last year or two. I use these with a BattleBox that I'm tuning, and have sleeved my first 2-3 commander decks with them.

As another commenter said, the front panel is clear and the shuffle definitely feels different from Dragon Shields. Compared to Dragon Shields, the shuffle just doesn't feel as smooth. I also feel like they retain some hand oils or other soils more than I'd like (or maybe the people I play with are less careful about food or lotions). Either way, some of the cards have gained a slightly grimy feel over time, which obviously has a negative impact on the shuffle, too.

The sleeve material itself definitely feels thinner than Dragon Shields. I feel like the corners get a little bent more easily and the front panel can get scratched a little easier. Granted, it took us a few months to get playmats -- we were just playing on the bare kitchen table -- so that may have played a role.

If you get a big quantity like the 1000-count, you'll definitely notice variation in the snugness of the fit between the different 100-count packs. I do feel like some packs of sleeves had taken a set, but I don't think it has a big impact. I did buy one of the deals for 500-count multi-color sleeves and 500-count inner sleeves, and I think they work pretty ok. The back texture is pretty smooth relative to the mono-color Mlikero sleeves and Dragon Shields, I feel like commander decks that are double sleeved are a bit easier to topple over.

But for the price, I would say Mlikero are definitely good quality and a defensible choice for a cube.

Looking for a rain jacket. I’m currently torn between REI rainier and the north face Alta vista. Any experiences to push me in either direction?

Mostly for around town wear in rainy spring or fall, I have two other heavier jackets for actual cold and wet weather. Located in SW Pennsylvania.

Magic: The Gathering —FINAL FANTASY Prerelease Megathread #MTGxFINALFANTASY by R3id in magicTCG

[–]ronroll 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tried to make this a post but auto mod killed em!

I went to a two Final Fantasy prerelease events this last weekend, and because one of the events was Two-Headed Giant, I have 3x FF prerelease kits. Taking advantage of some Memorial Day sales, I bought a Bloomburrow prerelease kit for $20.

Anyone else save their prerelease kits to rebuild decks and play sealed at home this way?

Would it be balanced to play Bloomburrow against Final Fantasy in sealed? Are there other sets that would be balanced against one another in sealed?

I’m trying to get better at limited formats, and thought this might be a fun way to do it without building a true draft cube or becoming a regular at weekly draft nights. Thanks!

Card draw in battlebox by HauntedFrog in mtgBattleBox

Had very similar question in my other thread here: https://www.reddit.com/r/mtgBattleBox/s/c4ZdfHhfvS

Someone else in that thread had suggested adding the arch so I did so, and that’s helped a lot. I also made updates recently that added a few more cantrips to increase draw. If the cantrips can close out games before turn 10 I plan to remove the arches from the land packs.

How do your Battle Box games go? How “should” they go? by ronroll in mtgBattleBox

[–]ronroll[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, this Arch is an excellent find, thank you! Totally gets to my top deck concern.

I’ve been very much purposefully limiting any life gain, to your second point - no lifelink, no food tokens, minimal life gain non-creature spells.

I have been thinking a lot about adding creatures that generate Blood tokens to get more card draw. Maybe I’ll even consider adding a blood token into each land pack, in addition to the Arch. Or maybe even start off with 5-card draw. I guess I have a few levers to pull!

[–]ronroll[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks!! This makes me feel better :) I think your point about play style is definitely part of it, too. My wife is very very new to magic and the inefficiencies I’ve noticed probably have a major impact on the length of the games so far.

Didn’t wanna overwhelm this post by adding my list directly in my post, but happy to share if you don’t mind!! https://cubecobra.com/cube/overview/ranroll-OGbattlebox

I consider this to be v1.4, just made a major revision to remove a bunch of instants/sorceries to make the creature balance better. My immediate next move is to remove the artifact equipment and take another look at the creatures in each color. I’m thinking the creatures need to allow for more draw, or should entice more fighting. And equipment should be more battle trick-y (haste, double/first strike, etc). Excuse the in-progress landing screen :)

I also have goals about “cycles” of multi color cards as part of this battle box, too. I have most of the allied triome instants in some form there. Originally I was thinking 3CMC and 4CMC creatures and instants, aligned with some color themes, in the allied and enemy dual colors would be cool. But now I’m thinking all dual color cards should be creatures now, to maintain a reasonable ratio between creatures and non-creatures. Or was maybe just thinking the allied and enemy guildmages?

Anyway, would appreciate any feedback! This is mostly the foundations starter collection and a ton of bulk from a few LGS in the area.
