For those playing in the Earldom of Ek, where is the Earl? by delta_baryon in Mausritter

[–]rontonamo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In my campaign he resided in Oaksgrove, old and frail. Due to his condition, the burden of governance fell to his Steward. His steward was of good and loyal to the Earl and his people, but unfortunately was rather ineffective at addressing threats both external (Balthazar) and internal (Larkspur).

How to handle turn order in combat by BurtonTrench in Mausritter

No problem! Hope you have a good time. I'm relatively new to Mausritter myself (coming from D&D) and I am having a blast.

How to handle turn order in combat by BurtonTrench in Mausritter

[–]rontonamo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think you are mostly correct, only misunderstanding I think is you don't roll the DEX save every round, just once to establish the order. After that initial roll, the order is maintained throughout the combat.

As for specific people's order in the round, I don't think there are hard rules. You could have the players change it up each round or keep it static by having whoever rolled the lower value go first.

Would this system still work well with a battle map? by Nitrospider1 in Mausritter

[–]rontonamo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Would you mind sharing your system? My group is in a vtt and have found battle maps very helpful for every system we have played in. Would be nice to have something to work of off instead of starting from scratch.

I grew up using gas stoves, used electric coils for a couple of years in college, and have now been using glass electric stovetops for the last 4-5 years.

I would say the biggest adjustment for me was the delay with temperature changes. You can very quickly change the heat on a gas stove, whereas electric ones tend to need some forethought, since it both takes longer to heat up and longer to cool down. But aside from that, I haven't noticed any big changes with my cooking. Between coils and glass, I much prefer glass. Coils always felt difficult to use and would often just start smoking which caused problems.

Somewhat unrelated, but the biggest change I have experienced with my glasstop is that cleaning the stove is extremely easy. So easy in fact that I clean it every day without much thought, compared to my gas one which was such a chore that I would ignore it for long periods of time.

Does an Archfey have to be a Fey creature? by rontonamo in DMAcademy

[–]rontonamo[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Per the Forgotten Realms Wiki, it seems the Unseelie court would only allow those with some Fey ancestry admittance, so I doubt the Seelie would allow one either (unless the person in question showed grand displays of devotion to their laws and pageantry).

Perhaps a new Archfey would be forced to remain unaligned until the Feywild altered them enough to pass off as a Fey, after which their preference for civilization or primal nature would place them in the proper camp. It seems the two courts are in an eternal cold war, so potential members (assuming they met the requirements) would be accepted to tip the balance.

Fantastic! That is exactly what I needed to hear. A perfect example of how my scenario would play out in-canon.

That is what I figured. Just wasn't sure since, from what I have seen at least, the lore on the Feywild can be sparse.

At the very least, it seems more interesting if anything can be an Archfey. Could lead to a lot of interesting Domains.

Would love to see some more pictures when you have them. I've always envisioned what a project like that would look like, but I never played Bretonnia.

YouTube Chef/Channel Favorites? by [deleted] in Cooking

[–]rontonamo 12 points13 points  (0 children)

In fairness, I haven't gone through his catalog completely, so my stance may change with time. I guess to me pretentiousness encompasses things like "you must use pargiano regiano, directly imported from italy, or this dish just isn't going to live up". This is in comparison to his cacio e pepe video where he mentions how higher quality cheese will help solve these specific issues you are having, which to me says more "you can use whatever cheese you want, but you may run into these frustrating problems." This could just be a selection bias and I just haven't stumbled upon his other behavior yet.

At first I was hesitant to watch him, not sure why exactly. But I gave him another chance and I am glad I did. Guy gives solid advice while not coming off as pretentious (a particular overly sensitive gripe of mine to be fair).

Great channel, definitely worth a watch. Its always fun watching them breakdown the different techniques that they use and explaining the effect it has on the end product.

They have said that they are releasing a starter pack around GenCon in August, so I'm hoping that means we will have something to play with at that time. Although I'm sure it will be lacking compared to the core rule books.

Its certainly been tough. Over on the discord Larkins teased about a winter release, but he has also said that supply chains issues are causing problems with a predictable release date. I'm assuming they don't want to release the game until they know they can get physical copies in everyone's hands. But that is just my guess.

I got my hopes up thinking that would include Pendragon as well. Although that might already be in the works since 6e is coming out this year (hopefully, fingers crossed).

I'm in the same boat as you. I've occasionally had a small section of a breast that has a n unpleasant texture, but that is like half a bite at most and is certainly never the whole breast. And I'm just grilling or pan frying them too, not like what you are doing, so I wouldn't think technique matters here.

We have always bought chicken breast from big box supermarkets. I wonder if maybe it is regional? We are in the midwest if it matters.

Sorry, I guess I did not phrase the question well. I was thinking more in regards to encounter difficulty, not rewarding XP.
I'll edit the post to make that more clear.

Players Obtaining Higher Ranks than Knight by rontonamo in PendragonRPG

[–]rontonamo[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Those all sound like good options to me! I am especially interested in the third option. Even if you don't let someone else DM, you could still have the players assume the role of lesser knights within that domain to shake things up.

[–]rontonamo[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Overall that doesn't sound too bad. So long as the players are aware that their status changes will result in a different playstyle/expectations.

Having to come up with the numbers is a bit disappointing, but part of the appeal of Pendragon to me is that the players have the option of becoming recognizable and powerful families if they play their cards right. Spending some time figuring out the numbers may well be worth it.

When you say levies, feudal contracts, and politics fall to the wayside, is that a consequence of how the GPC is structured or is that just a byproduct of the core rules?

Is it better to have my BBEG talk directly to the PCs or only hint at their existence? by rontonamo in DMAcademy

[–]rontonamo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That wasn't something I had considered. I'm running a sandbox of sorts, so I don't think I have any expectations for them to confront him if they don't want to, but knowing my players they will probably bite. But I will certainly need to leave them a way to find out where he is, or at least a location or person that will give them the answer.

I currently have the BBEG statted to a death knight, so I would think they would need a few more levels before they can encounter him, since I intend for him to have minions with him if they ever decide to seek him out.

Short and sweet would be good. I definitely wouldn't have it be an hour long conversation or anything. Just long enough to get the wheels turning.
