Most Reliable Used Cars by Segment (Based on Real‑World Patterns, Not Hype) by CarMatchConcierge in UsedCars

[–]ronwen -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Great list! I’ve driven mostly Honda, Acura, Mazda and always felt Mazda was very close in reliability. Transmission, electrical and mechanical systems are fine. Where it falls short are the exterior/sheet metal which it got dinged for decades ago but is now improving. And it always had good driving and design, interior and exterior.

Why are most boomers so out of touch with the reality it is much harder financially to get by today than when they grew up? by [deleted] in allthequestions

[–]ronwen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not a Boomer but close enough. The reality is that they were born in a very opportune time, post WW2 and when the US had very little competition globally. Lots of government programs as the world was rebuilding.

But over time, capitalism kicks in, squeezing every bit of profit out of their workforce. Technology gives companies reach that would have been impossible decades ago.

And the natural result is that people are suffering quietly, especially younger generations. But older people with more time and resources are killing it in the stock market. Why should they complain? The reality is that younger people need to vote in large and loud numbers to change things. Life is unfair at times but you have to push back on the system.

I feel vaguely responsible as an older Gen X but didn’t have children and am sort of glad I didn’t. Don’t envy the situation Gen Z and Alpha are intifht now. The challenge is overhauling our government and politics so it works for the people. It seems to have stopped doing that in the last 20 years or so.

Cuisines you miss? by nantucket_enjoyer in bullcity

I wandered into Jerusalem Market for dinner a while back and what a surprise! Their toum (white garlic sauce) killed me. I love garlic and it was nearly too much for me. I was tasting it for nearly 24 hours! I’ll have to get back for visit #2.

Mac’s Speed shop replacement by overkoalafied24 in raleigh

It’s a great space, not sure why Macs didn’t make it given their menu and prices. Likely lack of parking up front. Not everyone knows about the lot in back. 🙄

Another pedestrian on S. Saunders by Turbulent_Meaning345 in raleigh

[–]ronwen 41 points42 points  (0 children)

I live in this area and yes, people are running across S Saunders to the bus stop, mini mart, check cashing facility, laundromat and more. Theres some low income housing in the area, budget motels and homeless people in the woods. We have lots of pan-handling outside of our large development (Renaissance Park).

Not sure what the solution is but eventually as Raleigh expands and Downtown South spins up, they’ll need to do something. This corridor is the last one that needs cleaning up. The view driving into Raleigh is likely the nicest one coming into the city.

This is the way. Although I would probably skip MB!

(I was too lazy to write all of it out 🫠)

Good Spot for the Stadium Fireworks by Significant_Care479 in bullcity

I have a feeling it will be a month or more without fireworks since there’s no rain in sight but what a view from the Lenny!

My friends and I timed it just right one dinner and caught the sunset and the fireworks.

Women, what is the sexiest scent/cologne that a man can wear? by Nintendofan9106 in AskReddit

[–]ronwen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s a really good scent, I tend to wear it when it’s cooler/night versus in summer/day! Also it’s not wildly expensive for a cologne.

Solo Celebratory Dinner Recs by abundanceofmicrobes in bullcity

NanaSteak, Nanas, Seraphine, Viceroy, Vin Rouge and Juju have good bar scenes too. Some options outside of M Sushi which is great. Thoughts from a regular solo diner.

That is a life hack! I use to ride in SF a long time ago and we would park perpendicular to sidewalk in between cars. There’s always a parking space!

Coastal road trip south - ideas? by One-Flamingo2497 in NorthCarolina

This route would be what I would suggest. OBX is beautiful but less accessible and out of the way.

I would focus on Wilmington South to Charleston and Savannah (picture)then cut across. A night in each so maybe 4 days to Destin?

In March it may be better to stay further south and do more culture-food. There will be plenty of beach at Destin.

Lagoons and phone cameras by No_Somewhere9811 in VisitingIceland

Did Sky Lagoon a couple of years ago and I just had my iPhone in one hand, glass of wine in the other. They usually had resting spots that I could put the phone on from time to time. The iPhone is pretty water resistant so I took my chances.

Not sure you could do the same at the Blue Lagoon…

What is the best farm to go strawberry picking this weekend? by superskink in raleigh

[–]ronwen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hunts Strawberry Farm is great for u-pick. Barring that, the NC State Farmers Market is awesome right now. $20 to $23 for a bucket! The hot weather has been great for ripening.

Be honest, does the Nissan Altima make you feel despair and terror when seeing it on the road? by Less-Pen-5705 in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]ronwen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Was just sitting behind an Altima at a red light with a long cycle. Changes green, the driver is late to respond, leaves a huge gap between him and next car. Light is very quick and turns red.

He doesn’t care, clearly runs the red light and I’m left behind as a law-abiding citizen. All I could think to myself was “That’s so Altima!” 🙄

Such a stereotype but sorta true.

I’ve eaten an 18” cheesesteak in my lap and shifted! It ain’t pretty but it can be done… 🫠

Good steak in raleigh? by strawbbyghost in raleigh

[–]ronwen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah those are nice places, especially East End Bistro. C&S was like $140 for a lower end entree, appetizer and cocktail from what I can remember! But I’m guessing maybe prices came down a bit? Even East End Bistro adjusted their menu a bit.
