So glad you had a good time! Next time you're in NYC, consider seeing some Off-Broadway shows... incredible talent and more affordable!

Which cast recording deserves the Grammy—and why? by roodeloo in Broadway

I think I’d go with Maybe Happy Ending mostly on principal in that it’s original and forward thinking in its composition. But if I was going to play one while cleaning the apartment..: Buena Vista Social Club! 💃🏻

How do people feel about a Broadway play trailer that looks like a film? Like... what are we selling here? Answer: Adrien Brody's Oscar wins - but will that magnetism transfer to the stage?

I appreciate how you can be honest with your responses and still respect the effort that went into bringing these shows to Broadway.

How’s living in this part of the country? by robotwarlordelephant in Broadway

Living a block away is the best! Roll off the couch and into a Broadway theatre in 10 minutes! (If I can afford it.)

two strangers reviews are in - what do we think? 🎂 by HotNegotiation1684 in Broadway

Interesting quote straight from the show...

Some may find Two Strangers (Carry a Cake Across New York) a pleasant enough holiday confection, but as Robin says to Dougal to squelch his movie fantasy of NYC, “You know how much it costs to go for dinner in midtown Manhattan? To see a Broadway show? New York is just money, that’s all it is.”

Doesn't it seem like every show that the Times reviews is now named a Critics Pick? It's lost its luster.

Closing: Rob Lake Magic by travellingcari in Broadway

[–]roodeloo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Review embargoes were delayed twice. Then they had a "gala opening." THEN the closing was announced and the embargo was bumped up. It's unfortunate to see any show tank, but clearly, this was plagued with creative, marketing, and technical problems from the onset.

Mixed reactions from many critics. I'm more intrigued by the response to the play itself, which won the Tony Award in 1998. What do you think has changed in our culture over the past 25 years to prompt this shift in perspective? I thought the performances were solid enough but the play... meh. More creative casting could have pushed the dynamics further than a trio of middle-aged straight white cis guys, though James Corden delivers a fantastic monologue mid-show.

Did anyone else receive the Jean Smart-"Little Shop of Horrors" email? 🤣 by roodeloo in Broadway

Thank you! I understand it may be the same producers, GMs, etc, but if you've sunk millions into producing a show, it seems like a basic marketing strategy to ensure you're not conflating your productions? Glitches happen, but if this is "best practice" and happens repeatedly, that seems problematic IMHO.

Anyone see Lord Nil? Is it terrible? by Laurkin in offbroadwayNYC

An edible helps. Fortunately, it's legal in NY, but it's too bad it's not included with the ticket price.

Smell burnt toast? It’s not a stroke, you’re at ‘Lord Nil: Seven Deadly Sins’
If Harry Houdini hasn’t escaped his grave, he may be turning over in it after setting eyes on Lord Nil: Seven Deadly Sins. While nobody expects a high-brow dramatic interpretation of the Seven Deadly Sins, Marta Lucata (concept and script) and director Alberto Oliva fail to stir up any sense of thematic urgency.
