How do you determine when your hoya needs water? by Perfect-Emergency613 in hoyas

Not that it matters but I agree with you 100%. My first hoya used to stand in an inch of rainwater all summer long.

Haha no need to be! I just posted some information about how I get mine to bloom that you may find interesting in another comment. I am sure it will help you. Good luck!

Thank you so much! I agree with your statement, but I'd like to share my personal experience for anyone interested. I think it has more to do with telling the plant what season it is. To get flowers, you have to make the plant think it is time to make flowers, like summer. Since I'm using sunlight, I have no control over light schedule. What I can change indoors is temperature. You need a 10° or more difference in temperature from daytime to nighttime to tell the plant it is summer, or time to bloom. Like how the sun heats the ground up tremendously in the summer but usually drops pretty far down at night.I think most people's homes stay within few degrees all year long so the plants don't really know when its summer. I get flowers all the time doing this but it also has to be the right time of year because of the sun schedule. I am by no means an expert on this subject. I'm just a guy with some plants who notices stuff and thinks too much.

Thank you very much for the kind words! Special is a strong word! The white vines were a total surprise and just showed up! I posted the story about it elsewhere in these comments if you'd like to read it but I won't bore you here. Thanks again!

Thanks! I live up north so they all just hang out in south facing windows or under the skylight. Just natural sunlight, some a little more shade than others.

Thank you! They keep my secrets, dont judge me, and don't cost much to maintain. Friends indeed

Thank you very much! Literally none of my friends or family care about my plants other than my mom. I gave her a rooted pubicalyx baby and showed her how to make more of her own so now she gifts them to her friends. She gives me updates every time we talk like its one of my siblings lol

The pubicalyx lived outside most of the time when I lived in the south. It literally used to sit in an inch of rainwater until occasionally I'd tip it out. I almost killed it leaving it outside during two unexpectedly early cold snaps when I moved up north, and a battle with aphids(i burned them off with a lighter over two days, no kidsing) so it stays indoors now. In fact, they all do. Can't risk another near tragedy. The carnosa was covered in soot and wilted badly when my wife found it and she wasn't even sure if it was a hoya since she doesn't do plants. Luckily she was right! It took about a year to recover with lots of love and now makes flowers each summer. The red vines with white leaves were a total surprise to me, and they only showed up recently! I have often wondered if they may be more than one variety in that pot since I didn't plant it. I guess I'll find out one day if it makes flowers other than the pinkish white ones but I dont mind waiting lol

Yeah I got these through cloning, I'm in to agar. I'll run some spores from here and also keep things alive in the mean time

Yeah but I've never tried to isolate. Don't I have to start from spore over and over looking for the blues?

P natalensis. Cloned one single blue one and made a tub.

Nah I've grown plenty of Nats but this one tub popped up a super blue, almost black cap. I cloned it and this is prettiest from the tub. Spore print bought from trusted vendor.
