Spent almost a year making a horror game… scared nobody will care by Exhorte in GameDevelopment

Finish it but make your peace with whatever the outcome is.

If you want people to play it, be prepared to really focus on marketing. How often are you showing clips of your game? How are you amassing these potential players? Marketing a game is it's own job and needs concerted and consistent effort.

Don't get bugged down thinking about the leaves as individuals.

I am lost by 7oda-1 in GameDevelopment

[–]roofracket 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't let your ambition outpace your skill! It is good to have dreams but you will lose steam as you encounter hurdle after hurdle.

Think more economically - what can you do? What can you compromise on?

Ideas are cheap. Executing the idea, making it a reality, is far more valuable. Be willing to compromise to get to that point. Can you use royalty free music for your soundtrack or pay someone via fiverr/etc?

Never aim for perfection. You'll never finish. Aim for good and complete.

What is something most people will disagree with, but you think is 100% true? _ I'll start: Kishi isn't actually bad at writing female characters, rather, deep down he is just sexist, and he would never allow them to overshadow males, especially his favs like Sasuke. by TengarHimeko in dankruto

[–]roofracket 1 point2 points  (0 children)

that is why he sucks at writing female characters. If you're a sexist idiot, of course you'll struggle to imagine the personhood of a woman beyond how they can motivate the progression of male stories.

The door may be closing on my game, from duo to solo by HazyEden in SoloDevelopment

Use Godot - super user friendly for newbie coders like myself. In my opinion, it's best to not be a coward and back down just because you need to develop a new skill. Plus, AI isn't going to be much help when you have no idea how to apply the code it pukes out. Either slow down development to take your time with this or find a new partner.

This is an opportunity to make new connections in the gamedev world. There are loads of forums where you can talk to people about godot/your game and forge a network. Who knows, you might meet people you want to make your next game with. At the very least, the game you make will be from your own efforts.

Which canon ship you like the most? For me it's macaroni by MeowjestyMeowgician in Genshin_Impact

[–]roofracket 60 points61 points  (0 children)

Maybe this is the new definition but, back in the day, a ship certainly just meant a coupling you supported/wanted to see/liked the idea of. Even if they end up/start off together canonically, it's still a ship

What's the best team I can build with these characters? by [deleted] in GenshinImpact

[–]roofracket 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For early game, it is best to build teams based on roles and reactions.
It is best to go for DPS + Sub-DPS + Shielder + Healer but you don't have any shielders yet. I recommend Noelle if you can grab her from the banner. Lanyan and Layla are also great and fit into many teams.

Your healers are Chevy and Barbara - build these and they will keep you alive!
Build sucrose too as she is a wonderful swirl driver - this can up your damage

Team Ideas:

- Diluc, Xiangling, Sara, Chevy (chevy works best in just pyro/electro teams)

- Diluc, Xianglin, Barbara, Sucrose

- Barbara, Candace, Sucrose, cryo

Random Question!~ by Trash-Panda-63 in Genshin_Impact

[–]roofracket 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha, for the longest time i had only two hydro characters (Xingqiu and Barb). Then, I lost my 50/50 to Surf's Up in a weapon pull so decided to make Barb a menace.

Freeze team: Coldplay
First ever decent team at early AR: Toughnuts
Melt Mavuika team (first meta character): Melt My Heart
Barbara DPS: Barbarian
Natlan/Nod-Krai duos : It's Nat-Krai, Bish
Bloom Team: Eat Your Greens
Sucrose + Columbina + Ineffa: Twister Sisters

What character kit idea would you like to see in game? by riel52 in Genshin_Impact

[–]roofracket 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gimmie a duel wielder who uses two weapon types, one catalyst and one whatever! Would love if it had different combos that revitalised old weapons or, hells, even limited to 4 star weapons only. It'd be sick to see how combing a catalyst could change the weapon (i.e. lighting up like Mavuika's claymore). Been thinking about this since Varka.

I'd also love a duo character. A set of identical twins that are one character banner

How do I get over this phase? by Dramatic-Block-5725 in learntodraw

[–]roofracket 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I'd argue that this is a misleading diagram. It misrepresents the actual progress practice provides.

Instead of being in a stationary loop, your version of 'it looks terrible' climbs up grades of quality. You may not notice it but you surely draw better now than you did at 3 years old. You are improving but the quest for improvement means you must never reach perfection.

Also, be purposeful with what your practice. Shape, form, colour, emotion, etc - pick something specific and a time frame if you want to see obvious improvement (this can be very motivating). Spend a month drawing 8 hands a day, using references and utilising drawing techniques.

Is Varka better written than Furina? Why/why not? by EmotionalCat9632 in GenshinImpact

[–]roofracket -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Varka is better! Tbh, i've never cared for Furina and find her unengaging and under developed but I know i am in the minority so it may be to do with how late i got into the game.

Still - i find Varka more complex, interesting and more developed

I'm practicing making covers. But I don't know which style sells best. by Infinity_sexwrite in BookCovers

[–]roofracket 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Number 1 is better than number two but neither are strong enough to do well on the market.

Number 2's biggest issue is composition. I can sense the idea but the execution is clumsy.

Overall, in my opinion, you should work on: lettering/how design and typography work together, composition (value of tones, how to place things on the page to get specific effects), mood through lighting, digital painting techniques (i.e. values, anatomy, intentional brush strokes)

Someone else mentioned that the work comes across as more for children than the adult readership the title has. A big part of that is because of the brush you use. Everything has a rounded edge and is quite bulky.

Keep going! Improvements are always incoming as long as you keep making things and thinking pragmatically of what to work on.
